recently a newspaper had an article- water level slips down further to a distance of 40 meters. Due to heavy industrialization and growing population the consumption of water has increased dramatically. In our district Sundergarh,Orissa the water level was just 15-26 mtrs not long back but 2000, today it went to 25-30 mtrs in 2005 and now in 2010 it is a 40mtrs. so what about 2012,15,......? more than 45 industrial units have come into existence in last 5yrs, population is increasing not just by the natives of area but further people from far away coming to work in this area and others related to it, the growth in infrastructure and various things help adding more and more people.

Hi ajay indeed it is an alarming situation that the water level is reducing every year and there may be a time when there will be serious dearth of water. This appears to be a paradox to me.We all know that 3/4th of the earth is water and the remaining 1/4th is land and even in such a place there is scarcity of water.Apart from the population pressure and growing urbanisation I also like to add one more point..the lack of proper planning on the part of the governments.I think immediately all residential and industrial complexes must be prohibited from using water from deep tubewells and all other multi storeyed buildings using ground water must not be sanctioned by the government and the lacal bodies. At the same time the government must undertake water treatment plants and try out other ways and means to suffice the water requirement.
