Ofcourse, we all have weaknesses, one way or the other. But, in a job interview, I wouldn't want to say that would effect my chances for the job I am applying for. But, at the same time, I shouldn't say I have no weaknesses. That won't be true either, right ? So, I would say , may be, I think I should improve my socializing abilities. How is that ? Would that be alright ? How about you ? What would you say your weakness is if asked in a job interview ?

What would the job your applying for be? It really has a lot to do with that. I think that I would say my weakness is taking my job home I might also suggest that I have a lot of ideas that I like to express in the improvement catagory. That wouldn't be a lie either. I don't know if I would go with the socializing but that is just because most companies are aimed at team effort. I am in management where I work and the first thing we look at is how well someone would "get along" with others. Now as far as outside of work..well...that is another catagory..thay is management material. If you can narrow down your inablity..that would mean alot.

I was once asked what my weakness was and I replied, "I don't like criticism" which went down like a lead balloon. The looks on the faces of the interviewers was a picture, if I'd had a camera at the time I would've taken a photo lol.
Needless to say, I didn't get the job!!

when ask about your weaknesses, you should spin your weakness into a strength. For example: "I'm a perfectionist, I've had trouble delegating my duties to someone else because I felt I could do things better. This has sometimes backfired because I'd end with more than I could handle and the quality of my work would suffer. But I've taken courses in time management and learned effective delegation techniques, and I feel I've overcome this weakness."
That's it, 100 percent sure, you'll get the Job.
Good Luck!

YOu might want to watch using that one. If they think you want to do everything .. they will let you. They can hire you at your salary, and then hand you more responsibilities to the point that you are doing the work of 2 people while being paid for the work of one. And since you see it as not being able to deligate...what do they care? Companies love that...2 jobs done for the salary of 1 person.

Interviewers would always ask this question. It is likened to the koan of Zen practice where in there is no definite answer but it is use to gauge one's understanding only this time to gauge one's character. I would rather focus on things that I can improve further in my life.

My one big weakness when it comes to interviews is that I sometimes get a little bit too nervous. There tends to sometimes be some awkward pauses in my interviews when I don't know what else to say. I say what I have to say to answer their questions and then sometimes it seems like they're waiting for me to say something else or are looking for something more than what I said and that makes me nervous, like I've said the wrong thing. xD

I think the best answer would be that.....
My biggest weakness is that I CANT LIE... lol I know everyone does but to impress I think this is the best or one can say that
My biggest weakness is that I CANT SEE MYSELF ON 2nd POSITION in anything I do
Cheers

When they asked me that at my last interview, I said, "You've probably already worked that out. I talk too much!!" Yes, I did get the job and I'm still there two years on... & I still talk too much
It would depend on what the job is - does it involve meeting clients/customers or other social interaction? If so, you may need to steer away from the socializing skills.
I think the trick is to phrase it so that your weakness could also be seen as a strength or poitive attribute.

In any job interview, I can always find the same weakness. It would have to be self confidence. The lonmger the interview, the more chance i have to second guess my abilities. Maybe it's just psychological but that's what usually happens.

Somewhat I'm introverted person, so normally I don't usually go partying if I know that they are not my close friends. So I was having a problem with interpersonal skills I guess and not too confidence, sometimes says that before I enter to an interview I should practice first with a mirror and expect that there are questions that irrelevant or unexpectedly...

This is a tip that a got from the book called "What Color Is Your Parachute" when you are asked to say what is your weakness in a job interview, instead of citing something negative you can actually turn it into something positive.
You can say, I do not like being over supervised because I have the initiative to see problems before they arise.

my weakness is my confidence. i think sometimes i scared that i can't passed my interview and my answer to their question is also wrong. this summer i need a job because of OJT. and from now i'm shy type to that because this is the first time time that have an interview. i hope this time my interview will be pass.

their are 3 things a person should remember before answering this question in the interview
1.what ever your weakness, like your communication, its important that you make the person realise that you know that thats ur weakness
2. let him feel the things you are doing to overcome your weakness
3. tell him the results you acheived after you implemented certain things

Figure out how to make you weakness your best asset. Without specifics I can't say specifically, but say something like "my biggest weakness is I tend to work to hard" or something like that. Don't tell them a specific weakness like "I need to improve my social skills" as that is a sure sign you won't be hired. They don't want anyone like that. They want the perfect person...and since that perfect person doesn't exist... as we all have weaknesses..even that interviewer... make yourself the best applicant there. I don't think an employer should even ask that question. It is just asking the applicant to trash the interview.
Or say something totally none work related.. like "my biggest weakness is I tend to burn things when I am cooking dinner". He will come back with "how does that effect your job?" and you say "it just makes me more on target with things I do... I don't want them to burn so I pay close attention and double check and make sure things are on target before I say they are done".
\The one I hate is when they ask "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" That is so stupid. What does where you want to be in 5 years have to do with where you want to be now? I have gotten so mad at this being asked.. I said one time.."In 5 years I hope to be sitting right there where you are right now". Isn't that where all the employees would like to be.. climb the corporate ladder and be in the upper positions? The expression on that employers face was priceless! He didnt expect to hear that and of course, didn't like hearing the reality that that is the only answer to that question and someone had the guts to verbalize it. The interview ended there and of course.. I didn't get the job.
Moral of the story... they don't really want to hear/know the honest answer to their questions, so why give it? Give them what they want to hear and you stand a better chance at getting the job.

I think my greatest weakness is getting nervous.. because when i going for any interview then i feel some nervous.. i don't know why this happen.. again and gain.. but i think if you tell your weakness in interview.. then it will be a negative point and shows bad effect.. on interviewer..

I agree with you. Stating your weaknesses will affect your chances of getting hired because you are just like saying negative things about yourself which i think is a disadvantage. So to be safe, say something that will be very easy for them to analyze you.
