Leiyomyoma or fibroids of uterus is common among females in their forties.
I used to think that and type of cancer is lethal . Than how come all these ladies survive. I came to know the fact that many dont even go for a surgery and still live a normal life.
My knowledge on this is very less i believe.

Fibroids of the uterus or also known as leiyomyoma is simply explained in laymen as an overgrowth of the uterus tissue. It is not cancerous although recorded evidence suggest a very small percentage (less then 5%) may be at risk to turn into cancerous cells in some women.
What it does to the uterus is that it expands the surface of the uterus. Lining this surface is our endometrial tissue ( the tissue which causes menses once it's shed during menses or periods). The larger the surface area, the more endometrial tissue is shed, thus the more menses a women with fibroid experience. With more menses, the more blood loss this women has per month. Sometimes, their menses may even be prologue because of it. This obviously depends on the type, location and size of her fibroid/fibrois( Yes, you may have multiple fibroids at a time). So, although fibroids are not cancerous, but it is still debilitating because of the anemia women experience.
In my experience working as a doctor, we've had ladies who present to us with fibroids and a hemoglobin level of 5.0 g/dl ( yes, she has anemia symptoms and vimpire pale!).
The management for fibroid may be via medical treatment alone, surgical treatment alone or a mix of both; all depending on the lady's age, and plans for further amount of children.
