Is the sentence "Could I speak to whoever is in charge of International Sales please?" right?I think the word "is" after "whoever" should not be used here. Am I right or wrong? Please tell me, and thank you.

It sounds right, but the whole thing sounds a little harsh.. It's almost like demanding to speak to the person in charge instead of asking politely.. hehe ^_^ BUt that's just my own opinion, while i dunno about others though.. hehe ^_^ Phrasing of the whole sentence is right though, and all the words are in right place too..

Hey, I think this can be presented it in an even more formal way: Can I kindly speak to the person in charge of International Sales? While formally speaking, do not plead or ask or tell. But, your sentence was correct but a bit informal.

I think that sentence is right zhang because "whoever" is used here as like "any person" so you are referring to a single person. the use of "is" in the sentence is used to link the subject "whoever" and the subject complement "in charge of International Sales". i hope this helped in anyway.
