Website --would like to start need suggestions

I am a newbie and am really interested to start a website of mine as many have already done.
Since I am a newbie can any one guide me here as to how to choose a domain name,and other factors-in connection with a website.
Because, I am feeling difficulty as to whom to approach and launch a website.
Or please direct me to a site which is useful for newbies like me to easily do that.
Need your kind help please............

for domain name, you can get it at www.godaddy.com
if you want a free website, there are lot of websites with site builders to get a free one. If you want to host one, you should buy hosting space.
