Do you put salt in your coffee?

This morning hubby totally ruined the pot of coffee. He decided to add a bunch of salt in with the grinds. He didn't tell me this so when I fixed up my cup thinking it would be delicious, I took a sip and YUCK! I asked him what he did to the coffee and he said he added salt. I felt like I just rinsed my mouth out with salt water! I have heard of people adding a pinch of salt in their cups of coffee after it's brewed but not right in with the grind. Do you drink your coffee with a tiny bit of salt?

Ewh! No, I put cream and sugar in my coffee, but certainly not salt! That sounds so disgusting. Great way to ruin perfectly good coffee!

That does not sound very nice at all! It reminds me of my father he used to eat porridge oats and when he cooked them he would add a sprinkle of salt, it tasted horrible!

I'm not sure why but Dad's eat combinations of strange things. Hubby's dad use to take a piece of cheese and put it on a piece of apple pie, he would also eat an onion like an apple.. My dad use to mix ketchup in with cottage cheese. Thanks for your reply

Salt?!? I haven't tried it ever and i think it will surely taste awful. This is even the first time that i ever heard of such thing that a pinch of salt is add to a brewed coffee. Can anyone tell me how does it taste? I am curious but i don't think my curiosity will lead me to trying it out! LOL. so please if you have tried it share the experience with me...

If you want to try it I would suggest to add a tiny pinch when you have already put cream and sugar in your coffee while it's in your cup. Don't do what my hubby did and put it with the coffee grinds when you're going to brew it.. It enhances the taste and somehow it takes the bitterness away. But the amount that hubby put in was wayyyy too much and it tasted like I swallowed salt water.. it was gross! Thanks for your reply P.S.. I made the coffee this morning hehehe Happy Mylotting

Salt into coffee? Never heard of that. What did your husband do? That is why I prefer to make my own coffee so I know what's in there. I would like a specific amount of water and just enough sugar. But salt? Yuck.

Well hubby was trying to experiment with salt in with the coffee grinds and well.. it didn't work out that well. He remade it by leaving out the salt for the second pot of java. Thanks for your reply

I do not understand why your husband would spike the coffee with salt, no one in the universe drinks coffee with salt! If it's expensive coffee it will all go to waste.

Hi, nixxi76. No, I have never has salt in my coffee before. This is not a good combination. I think that sugar goes along better with coffee than salt. Whomever thought of such a thing to put into coffee? It would be very nasty if salt was added to coffee..

How I'd Probably Feel - This is how I'd probably feel lol.
No, I have never added salt to my coffee. And really, the thought has absolutely never crossed my mind to do that. I can't imagine coffee tasting that great with salt. The only things I have ever put in my coffee have been the common sugar and cream. I'd probably have the same "yuck!" reaction myself.

Yes! Ah, and have you rrrrollled up your rim today? A pinch of salt does enhance the flavour of coffee. Mind that I said, a Pinch of salt, not a teaspoon or a tablespoon!!!! I had a post about Tim's I wonder if you could check out, 'cause I think its a question worth knowing the answer to! Seems only fellow Canadians can answer it.

I will check out your question about Tim Hortons forsure. I do agree with you about a pinch of salt b/c I tried it once when I was out for coffee with friends. They started roll up the rim on March 1st and they usually let that run until they run out of the cups and they have now so it's over. You have till the end of May to claim your prizes. I also started a discussion about Tims too.

Absolutely not, I don't even add salt to any of the food I eat. I usually have 1 cup of coffee a day with my girlfriend, we both drink it black and love it. Once you get used to it and like it, you'll never want cream or sugar again. The salt in the coffee sounds so horrible, I would never try that.

Salt is suppose to enhance the taste of coffee but just a pinch in the cup not when it's going to be brewed in the coffee maker and that's what my hubby did.. ruined a whole nice pot of coffee errrrr. But, he made it up to me and brewed a fresh new pot so we're okay now haha lol. Thanks for your reply

HI, I work with these everyday... Yes, some people would add a little of salt to the whole bean... but JUST very a little and mix them up and grind it... to do this, is to make coffee taste more better and you dont have to add too much sugar to it. but I think he added too much lolz....

Just want to add: I serve coffee to my customers every single day and I know... lolz. some place, NOT MY PLACE, will add a little salt to their whole bean cuz they dont want their customers use too much sugar. lolz... trust me, YES .... My manager always ask me to put some but I never do when I am in charge cuz I dont like the system of saving sugar thing lolz....

huh??? Are you serious? Coffee with salt? I never tried it... And I don't think I will try that ever even just out of curiousity... I am very much fine with sugar and cream... I don't know someone too that put tiny bits of salt in their coffee... it was the first time I heard about that, promise. May I ask if your husband drink the coffee??? Oh well -- too much salt intake is absolutely bad for the heart, it will definitely make your blood pressure high...

That is peculiar... I've never hear dof adding Salt directly to the grind! I personally don't add salt to my coffee but I have a friend who does. I have a big question for this discussion, If you add a tiny, tiny amount , will it alter the taste? - Fry
