my idea is put the onion into the bowl of water. when the water turns into colour (water is colourless), onion is ready to cut and you wont cry. i do the same.

hello rahulral29 your problem is same with me. But i try to solve this problem by listening my friends. Before going to cutting onion, you put this onion either in the water or in the fridge it. Then after 15 minutes you can try to cut it and lets see what will be happen to you. I hope this will be benefit for you

so you do not shed tears when cutting onions. before the cut onions soaked in water and use a sharp knife. Your tears would not come out when cutting onions.

to stopped it why not try to put it inside the fridge coz it stopped the evaporation of the onions fluids.

Place your onions inside your fridge. Now, whenever you use onions on your dish, the sting is greatly reduced.

My eyes are super-sensitive to onions, so I know exactly how you feel! There are a few things you can do to help prevent crying while cutting onions. The most important thing is to use a really, really sharp knife. The cleaner and sharper the cuts, the less onion gas is released. I also find that it helps a little to cut the onion into quarters and then quickly rinse them in cold water. I was curious about some more tips for cutting onions, so I searched around a little and found this site: http://pinchmysalt.com/2007/10/24/how-to-cut-an-onion-with-fewer-tears-a-photo-tutorial/ It has some great information, and it also shows a great way to cut an onion really quickly. I'm definitely going to give it a try next time I slice an onion!

There a many ways to prevent this from happening. I do a number of different things at different times. Sometimes I cut open the onion and put it in a glass of water for a while. Then after aout 10 minutes I proceed to cut and it usually doesn't bother my eyes. I also heard if you burn a candle right next to cutting an onion you will not cry. This one I came across accidently. While cutting an onion I had a pot of water getting ready to boil the steam from this prevented me from crying. I also read online that if you cut the inner cirle of the onion out in a you will not cry. I hope some of these suggestions help you.

It happens to me too, everytime I cut onions. I can't do anything to prevent it. I just let my tears flow. Its a good exercise to release my stress, hehe...

My relative said that you can prevent that from happening by cutting the onions in the water.Do it fast so the onions wont soak too much. The air that will come out from it cannot have contact to your eyes because it is in the water.

I personally have huge problems with this myself. Onions can make me tear up even while they're being cooked after they've already been cut. The only thing that helps me reduce the amount of crying I get when I'm cutting onions is to make sure not to touch anything but the onion, and walk a few feet away when I feel it getting bad. Once it gets better I go back and wait until it gets bad again. So I do a lot of walking back and forth, but it's the best strategy I've found to reduce the crying.
