MRT commuters be careful...

Almost everyone in metro manila rides the MRT. Due to the long lines we often forget to count our change in our haste to catch the first train that comes along. However, there's a particular counter that won't give you the exact change. I haven't noticed this because i dont count the change before i leave the counter. It's my wife who noticed this and according to her this has happened to her a lot of times already and it's seems to be the same person who keeps doing this. So next time you ride the MRT and you're not in the express lane, watch your change. Pay particular attention if you'll ride the train in Magallanes station.

Oh I have not been to MRT for quite sometime already. I think you should tell us which station is it and try to report that to the management to prevent this person from doing this all the time. I guess if thousand of people pays this and many of these people do not count their change then this cashier must have accumulated a lot of extra change from these. I think it should not be tolerated already.

Yeah he is practically stealing from the commuters and taking advantage that their customers are all in a hurry. I think another thing you should do is to start getting the name of the person so that management can monitor this person from doing this.

I'll check it myself when i have the chance to ride the MRT again. I'll put a bait and check if it will happen to me too so i can complain on the spot.

It happened at the Magallanes station in Makati. Actually i'm about to check their website so i can send an email to their customer service. This is a serious issue since the guy can practically earn so much more that his salary by getting a few pesos off from unsuspecting commuters. Please spread the news and warn your friends so they can watch out for their change.

why don't you report the matter to the administration of the said train service? i guess, there will nothing to lose. and besides, he should be stopped with this kind of act. you know, when i was still in that area and even now, that i am able to visit manila, i always prepare exact change when i use and ride these metro trains. i never experienced such wrong doings of tellers but i find it more convenient for both the passenger and the teller if we will pay the exact amount.

i still believe that in every basket of tomatoes, there is at least a bad one that should be put aside so that others should not be influenced. it could be better if you can give the management the complete name of the teller and its station.

It was my wife who experienced it. She was suppose to report the incident to the supervisor that day but unfortunately no one is around. She was also in a hurry so she didn't pursue the case anymore. i am planning to send an email to their customer service to raise attention. Maybe there were complaints already because i saw a sign that says count your change before leaving the counter in some station. I never really put much attention to the notice since i trust that all MRT employees are honest. Now i just realized why that notice was put in place there.

That's what i'm planning. The next time i ride the MRT, i'll be using a hundred peso bill and check if that person will try to make a rip off so i can complain to the supervisor on the spot.

Which is why I always make sure that I have the proper change for commuting. I don't give bills so as to avoid hastily counting the change after. It's not just the MRT doing that, it's also jeepneys and taxi drivers, most especially if you're really running late and obviously in a hurry. I think they feel that it's an opportunity for them to get more.

Your right this happens a lot in the transport sector. For the jeepneys, it's easier to ask for a change since you can count your change while your inside the jeepney. For taxis, i make sure that i have enough change because taxi drivers always make it as an excuse that the they have change. But the guys over at the MRT are already paid a basic salary. I'm sure not every one is doing it but that particular guy seems to have find a way to earn more by his style.

I always make sure I pay the exact amount for any MRT destination to avoid hassles. I don't know how he is getting away with it because as far as I know, all the money earned are tabulated and must coincide with the number of tickets sold. Any excess/short money is noted and surrendered. If he is pocketing it, he must have found a way to get away with it.

That what i have in mind too. There must be someone he is cahoots with to get the money before the audit takes place. All companies have checks and balance to make sure that their clients will not be taken advantage of by a few employees but there are ways on how get past audit checks.

I don't ride the MRT, but a lot of my friends does, and I'm definitely sharing this story to them. It's just sad that a person would take advantage of those kinds of situations, where you are scramming to get to the train in time, and they know that you have no time to check your change so they deliberately don't give you the right amount. Tsk.tsk.tsk. Sometimes, it's just really better to always have the exact amount, so you don't have to worry about the change.

yes having the exact amount is the right thing to do but this is not always the case every time. More often, i prefer giving loose change to the jeepney driver.

Hello ybong007, thanks a lot for this very useful info of yours, a lot of us ride the MRT to and from the office during weekdays, and since most of its commuters are in a hurry, this person take advantage of the situation and didn't gave the exact change to its poor victim. Times are hard nowadays, i do hope that this person, realize that we are working hard for our need, so just be fair and honest... Please also inform the MRT's management about this so that proper procedure about this matter will be done soon. Good luck and take care!

I really agree with your opinion?? i am in china, and i never meet this case, because often we by the subway, we buy a plastic brand which are sold by the vending machion, then use the brand to by subway .Or we can by a mothly ticket ,no need to buy ticket every time ,just read swipe card .Any way ,if you buy ticket by the ticker seller, you should count the change yourself at once to avoide any mistake.

There's always a time when you run out of coins. I think it would be better if the MRT will adopt the same system on LRT III where commuters have no choice but to use the vending machine to get tickets. This will eradicate cheating altogether.

Thank you for the warning. Though I always count my change before leaving the counter, I would be extra careful the next time. Thanks again for bringing this up. People will be more aware when they ride the MRT, especially in Magallanes.

Tell you other friends as well. If this happens to them it means it's already a modus operandi where we got robbed for a few pesos without us knowing it.

That's true, they take advantage of people because most people feel they don't have to take any sort of precaution since these are people working inside an "office" and don't have to worry about anything but the change. And since most people just gather their change after getting their ticket, they don't usually count their change. I'm not a big fan of counting change especially if i'm paying in small bills. But if say I'm paying 100 for something that costs around 15 or less bucks, I really take an effort to count the change that I get. It's a habit I need to break, I know, and I really should start counting change for every transaction I get. I think I better start.

i'm one of those who just take everything given to me and put it in my side pockets. I don't count the change since i have the impression that they're working in an office and everything will be accounted for and any excess amount will be questioned by the supervisor and that can be taken against the employee. But i guess that employee must have found a way to get the excess money before the audit. I guess it will only take a couple of complaints to get that employee out. So tell your friends about this and brought it up to the superior to teach that guy a lesson.
