Do you still maintain a good posture? The straight body kind of deal? Well, when I'm standing up and walking, I try to maintain a good posture. But when I am sitting down, it's kinda hard not to slouch. I just noticed lately when my lower back started hurting that I always tend to slouch when I'm sitting in front of the computer. Now, as much as possible, I try to maintain a good sitting posture, but I find it hard. I get tired when I maintain a good sitting posture. On the other hand, I get hurt when I slouch. Can you give me any advice on how I should go about this posture problem of mine? Because really, I can maintain a good posture when standing up, but not when sitting down. :| How about you, how's your posture?

Same as you~! I tried to maintain a straight posture but somehow I will slouch when I sit down. It's very difficult to sit straight and maintain the posture because I felt like a robot. BUT when I slouch, I looked like an old lady on the verge of having no backbone. In a dilemma as well.. Hopefully I can change this bad habit of mine

Yes, I feel like a robot, too when I maintain straight posture. Especially when I'm typing. It's quite hard, really :| I really hope we find a solution to our dilemmas, though!

Yesh! Now that I am sitting down. I automatically goes into the "slouching" position. It's suppose to be very tiring to slouch but I think I relax when I slouch. Is this a strange thinking? And yes, hopefully we can find a solution to this

It's tiring to slouch, but I guess it's more tiring to force yourself to maintain a straight posture when sitting down. Lol.

I have fairly poor posture, mainly due to arthritis in my joints. I tend to hunch over the keyboard sometimes and I know I should make an effort to improve my posture but it's hard to stand straight and upright without joint pain

Maybe you should take it slowly. Maybe a couple minutes of good posture than back to the poor posture. Maybe it just takes time for your body to get used to it. But don't force yourself if you really can't handle the pain, it might lead to worse problems.

i don't have a good posture either. i love slouching. :) it makes me feel i'm sooo relaxed whenever i slouch. :D but recently, i just realized that i find it hard to breathe when i'm not sitting straight. so it just kinda reminds me to sit the right way and stop slouching.

Yes, I feel relaxed too when I slouch. It's just unfortunate that I started getting lower back pains. So I realized it may have something to do with my posture. :/ I guess the health problems that we experience (my back pain and your difficulty in breathing) are really warning signs for us to practice good posture. Oh well.

For YEARS I have sat at my desk (and sometimes I have watched movies this way) by sitting on a stability ball!! Yes.....these things are totally awesome to sit on and it forces good posture. I am very tall, 6'1" (186cm) and I always get compliments on my good posture. I whole heartedly urge everyone to get one of these to sit on - they are great to keep your abs in shape too!!!

Yes... a stability ball is a large round rubber ball that is large enough to sit on! They are used in exercising.... I am a writer and have written about these!! Here is the link! I truly love sitting on my ball.....keeps my abs nice and tight and great posture!! http://mindbodyfitness.suite101.com/article.cfm/stability_ball_exercises

Don't you get tired when using it to sit down on? Lol :/ But yea, maybe I should get one someday. Seems nice, and I'd really like to work on my abs hahah. You wrote that? :D Thanks for sharing! Very informative and interesting. I'll save it so I can read it once I get my own ball. :D

May I ask what a stability ball is? Is it the big one filled with air that's used for exercising? :D I think I should get one of those so I can get better posture. Thanks for sharing!

I am not good in sitting posture, I only maintain my posture if I am walking or standing just like you. But if I am sitting I would feel comfortable with sitting in slouch position. Its my comfort posture rather than sitting with straight back. I could not do that one for long hours. For me sitting with straight back would be very uneasy and it makes me uncomfortable. What I would do sometimes I put pillow at my back so that it would not hurt that much.

That is bad, maybe you need to go to massage parlor. I dont know if that helps so that ache or pain you are feeling would at least somehow lessen. Enjoy mylotting.

I usually get massages at home (those therapeutic home service spas) from time to time, but it just eases the pain for a short while. :/ But yea, you too! Thanks for responding :)

Me, too. I find the slouching more comfortable, it's just that lately it really started to hurt whenever I slouch or even just bend down to reach something. :( Thanks for sharing that! I guess I'll really try that pillow thing. :)

my posture is lousy at the best of times, part of it is my weight, but the rest is just because I've never had good posture - as for improving when sitting, first get a good chair and then use pillow supports to adjust your position so you are sitting correctly

Sometimes I don't really notice that I have poor posture, it's just when my mom points it out do I notice it. Thanks for the suggestion! I will try that sometime. I need to get rid of this rotten chair first. Lol

hi jeeyah I am the same way, I tend to stand straight with good posture but now sitting here I am not having good posture while sitting typing. I am told you must sit back on your typing chair with your back straight, and your legs relaxed but in front of you, thats so hard for me to do, i am really sitting on the edge of my chair, nothing supporting my back at all. thats not really good for ones back either.

It's really hard to type when your back is straight against the back of the chair and with your legs relaxed in front of you. It just makes my arms hurt because I need to extend them just to be able to type. :/

I have a good posture, i maintained a straight body while walking and standing. I guess sleeping with no pillows under the head is a lot of help and drinking milk to make your bones strong.

I maintaind a good posture while walking and standing, too. But I just can't seem to do so while sitting down. And I do that sometimes, sleeping with no pillow under the head, and it really is comfortable and makes my nape hurt less.

I have the same problem. It's difficult to maintain a good posture sitting in front of the computer, typing for hours. I have experienced pain in various parts of my body, some I did not even existed. I try to do exercises in the gym so as to prevent all these pain. I sometimes sleep with a hot pack in my upper arms!

Yea, I get pain, too in different parts like my lower back, shoulders, nape, etc. I never tried going to gym, I guess I'm too lazy and I won't be able to maintain it. Lol.

Lol, I guess. Well good posture will really contribute to good health, while poor posture can have negative effects on our health like back problems and such.

Yes, I know what you mean about hurting. I have been sitting at my computer for the last 5 hours or so and my posterior is really hurting! It is particularly bad when you wear bifocal glasses like me, and have to look through the lower lens to see your monitor. If you saw my web cam just now, you would be looking up my nose!

Oh, your glasses make it even harder! And sorry but that sentence made me imagine it and made me laugh a bit. Lol. Just sounds funny :) Anyway, I sit infront of the computer for almost the whole day, so yea. It just sucks, right? They should invent a chair especially made for sitting and typing whole day infront of a computer. Like the armchairs they have for school. Lol

I have same syptom as yours, and I also want to find a way to correct my sitting posture because my back have being hurt.sometimes,I recgnise that I am lazy, once sitting down, I want to relax and put my chin on the table in the class. Furthemore,I think the height is important factor to hardly adjust the posture.the greater tall you have, the more chance you get a unappropriate posture.

I do that in class too! Either that or I kinda lay back and slump down. I'm too lazy, I guess. :D And yes, I guess so. But I'm not that tall so I really don't get why I find it hard to maintain a good sitting posture. I guess it's just really because I'm lazy.
