When you start or respond to a discussion, do you read everyone's response?

I do. Every time I start a discussion, I make sure that I go back and read the responses. And if I got something to reply, I make sure to add my comment on that response. But if I feel that I don't really have something of substance to say, I don't add my comment, anymore. Because on myLot's guidelines, it says that we shouldn't post something if we've got nothing of substance to say, or something like that. Lol. But I really read EVERY response and APPRECIATE EVERY BIT and EVERYONE WHO RESPONDED. (Thanks to those people!) :) Do you do that? Quite frankly, I feel sad and disappointed when I respond to a discussion and it seems like the one who posted that discussion didn't even bother reading my response. Especially if I really exerted so much effort and thinking upon posting that response. It's like, I wasted my effort. Yes, I may have earned money from it, but it's still a different feeling when someone takes the time to read what you have to say and appreciate it. :/ But oh well. :) Meanwhile, before I respond to other discussions, I read first the other responses, unless it's too many. Haha How about you? Do you read every response that you get on your discussion?

I read every response on my discussions as well as every one on any discussion I am about to reply to. I have gotten used to people not responding to my discussions and concentrate on appreciating those who do reply.

It's really good to hear that! It's nice that you appreciate those who reply, and even take the time to read all responses on any discussion. :D

You have said exactly what I was about to respond Ford but as you can see I read the responses and if some one has already said the same thing then I just land and leave a comment

hi jeey yes I always read every response and futhermore I make the effort to comment on all reponses, just like I would love to have others do on my responses,I find something of substance to say, thats a cop out. I know I hate it when people to not comment we do the work of responding and yes I feel I always have something of substance to say. this is mylot not a college course where you are graded on responses and comments so do not be afraid to comment, its copping out to s ay you have nothing of substance, as two or three lines to show us responders that you read our responses and actually care about them. I make it a point to comment to all, as I feel those who responded to me took time and patience to do so.I read every response to mine and to others so I am not just repeating what someone else said. I like to be original in my thinking.

If we all dd it like you do Hatley there would be so much more quality here. Sometimes it is so blatantly obvious that others have not read before responding with their own response. As you say, it's not a college course, but a bit of comon courtesy would not go amiss either

Hatley: Sometimes, though, I find it hard to find something to say because some of the responses all basically say the same thing. So, it's kind of a struggle for me to think of something different to say. But I guess it's challenging. :) And because of what you guys said here, I started to try and respond to every response I get as much as possible. :) Thank you, really, for posting that! Just thought I'd say this: When I say "thank you", I really mean it. Haha :) So yea. mysdianait: Some people respond with something that doesn't really relate to what the other person said. :/ Do you get what I mean? Sorry I don't really know how to phrase it, but hopefully you got what I meant. Lol

I tend to read and respond to all the responses on my discussions, although sometimes I am limited by time restraints. I do appreciate everyone who responds to my discussions, after all, with no responses, it's not a discussion :-D

Yes, that's true. The responses are what makes a discussion a "discussion". Lol. It's kinda like fans making celebrities "celebrities". Haha :)

When I start a discussion I always read every response that I get - and respond to them, too. When I respond to a discussion started by someone else I don't usually read the other responses.

If you don't read the prevous responses then you risk saying the same thing as someone else We are told in the Guidelines to read them all before adding our own. If we find that someone else has said what we were going to say, we can leave a comment like I have done here to avoid repeating the same thoughts.

mysdianait has already said what I wanted to say. :p I guess I'll just say that it can be tiring to read all of the previous responses (especially if there are pages of it), but maybe we could read even the first few ones and the last ones. :)

Sometimes yes and sometimes not. If I find the discussion very interesting, I read all the replies to know what's their perspective. Then, I'll add my own point of view. If it's the discussion that I started, I always read the response cause the most interesting discussion for me is the one that I've started. Though, I sometimes fail to respond when I'm not in the mood or when the response is not much substantial. Long response doesn't mean its more substantial than short response but longer response always get my attention as it gives me more ideas to say.

"The most interesting discussion for me is the one that I've started" - True that! Lol. I enjoy the responses more if they're responses to my own discussion. :) And again, "I sometimes fail to respond when I'm not in the mood or when the response is not much substantial" - Sorry I keep on quoting your words, because I couldn't have said it better. You took the words right out of my mouth. Lol. That's exactly my point why I don't comment on responses sometimes.

Of course I cannot go back and read the responses when I start a discussion, because they have not been written yet. But when I respond to a discussion, only occasionally, do I read responses that have been written for that discussion. My reason for not doing, is because I have my own opinion, and I don't want to be influenced by by another persons ideas. After I have finished responding however, I make a point of going back and reading each and every response that was written to that Post.

Well, what I meant was that after you start a discussion, do you go back to it and check it afterwards to read the responses you got? :) And you have a point there. Sometimes it's good to post responses which are original and uninfluenced by others' thoughts.

I try to respond to everyone. I comment on what they said. Sometimes I might miss one, but it's rare. Once in a while the persons English is so bad I can't figure out what they are trying to say. Instead of insulting them, I just skip over that post. I really try to figure out what non native speakers are trying to say, but it's not always possible.

I really get what you mean about the "bad English", so I do the same and just skip that one. Because it'd be better than trying to interpret it, and respond to it with something that's irrelevant. So yea. But, if it's really not that bad, and I get what the person is trying to say eventually, then I respond.

I busied my hands to read all the responses and see the first page to last. In general, I read a long letter of the most simple sentences and then translate that into my own apartment. Although it sometimes was spending my time, it's fine.

I don't usually. I know I probably give somewhat duplicate answers sometimes. But I want to answer as clean and honest from my own mind before I read the other responses. Most of the time I don't read them when I am done either, but it really depends on the discussion.

You've got a point there, about making your answer as clean and honest from your own mind. And by doing so, it makes your post even more original and uninfluenced by others' responses. :)

I also read the post of the one who starts the discussion. But many times I don't have time to read all or most of the responses. There have been a few times when I don't read any, especially when the starter ask if I like something and why. My personal choice will not be effected by the other responses. Someimes I read a few responses and give those who I think made strong points, a positive check and I don't have time to write my own response. Usually, when I do respond, I say something like "I agree that ..." or like my first sentence on this discussion I'll say "I also ...". This means that I've read some responses I agree with.

Yes, I read everyone's responses, because they really interest me. I don't just create discussion just for nothing, haha. I like, some responses is kind of interesting and some another curious and some others you learn things and some are usual in a way and things like this. But why create a discussion if you are not interested about the responses? It is weird ahaha

Me, too. I create a discussion when it suddenly pops in my head and I suddenly become curious if other people also feel the same or something. Haha, so yea. :) Some people tend to start discussions and then leave it just like that. I guess they don't even bother reading or responding. :/

Yes, I always look at everyones response, I almost always want to hear both parts of the story, however I don't care to read other people's responses when they are meaningless, pure spam, or diverting from the original topic.

I get what you mean about the "meaningless", "spam", and "diverting from the original topic". I get some responses like that sometimes, and I just respond saying something like "I appreciate your response but it's really not related to the topic, so can you please answer blah blah". But I guess we should start a different discussion about those spams. Lol

I read and comment to every response that my wn discussions receive and I keep going back t comment over and over again if the user comes back and leaves something else. I read all the rsponses on a dicussion before leaving my own and I often leave a comment while doing so. I also read responses on many other discussions where I do not leave a response. After all, it is not just about earning cents here but also about learning knowledge and learning about other Lotters too. I love reading what others have to say and seeing their way of thinking about the topics here.

I keep going back to, and I comment back if I still have something to say. But if it's getting a bit off-topic already or I've got nothing else to say, I just leave it like that. :/ And yes, I could tell that you do that (based on this discussion, lol), and I think it's really a nice habit. :) I sometimes do that, too. But I find it hard to keep myself from responding, because I always end up thinking of something to say. So yea, in short, I can't read a discussion without responding, mainly because I feel the urge to share my own thoughts, too. Lol

Unfortunately I don't always read everyone's responses because there are a lot of discussions out there that have well over 50 responses to them. Whenever I'm on mylot I just try to respond to as many discussion as I possibly can with the longest and best responses I can possibly provide.

I read all the responses, and try to comment on them. I try to respond to all my friend's discussions also. Needless to say that takes up a lot of time. I don't know why someone would start a discussion and then not read the replies. The purpose of the discussion, to me anyway is to see how other people feel about the topic or get advice. If your not going to read the reponses, why bother starting a discussion?

Just starting discussions for the money is about the only reason I can see. I think you would earn just as much if you just replied to discussions someone else started.

I'd also like to respond to my friends' discussions, but I sometimes don't find the time since I have a lot of responses I need to read and comment on. Lol. "I don't know why someone would start a discussion and then not read the replies." - I know right?! Well, I have an answer for that, though. Maybe it's just those who are here for the money, so they don't even bother reading the responses anymore. :/ It's just sad to think of, really.

Yes, and if you just start a discussion for the sake of it (and the earnings), it will ultimately show, and I know that the myLot staff can't be fooled. ;) As for me, I ALWAYS read the responses to my discussion, as in I read EVERY response. I just sometimes don't feel the need to comment back, especially when almost all of the answers are the same, and if the answers aren't that substantial.

Yes I do And to make things easier I have created a separate folder for all mail from myLot in outlook express so that I can read all responses, comments, in fact any and all mail so that I am prepared before even getting into myLot website. And not only I read all the responses to discussions I started and I do comment but if the responses are very similar then the first comment I think suffices to all responses which are similar. I think that way it saves time and then to think of a comment for every similar response is pure redundancy!!!!
@jeeyah (1092)

Wow, I find it nice that you're really taking myLot responses seriously by even creating a separate folder for it in your e-mail. :) And yes, it really is hard to think of a comment for every similar response, but I just try to rephrase it. Because sometimes they might not be able to read my response, and think that I ignored them. Lol

Oh yes, I do read responses to my discussions and comment back if I have something to say. Reading responses on discussions I'm about to respond will depend on how many responses are there. Like this topic, it's already three pages long, I won't be reading other people's responses now. If it's not my topic, I mostly respond only to the topic starter. Yes, it's sad when you go back to topics you previously responded and seeing that there's no comment on your response. But well, we can't do anything about it. So I just go on with my life and read more interesting topics at myLot.

You did pretty well on letting people know about this problem. Glad I checked my email which I use to register to myLot. I saw an email indicating that you replied to my post. It's hard to determine if you have been replied to. Does myLot have this function? or do I still have to access my email so I can go directly to responses on my posts? I guess I better check my email more frequently.

Thank you so much. :) And no, I don't think myLot has this function. I just check if people reply to my responses by manually checking each discussion. And I didn't opt for e-mail notifications 'cause they might flood my e-mail. So yea. I hope myLot gets some kind of notification bar (like Facebook's). Hahah
