My dog has been acting so weird lately. He has always been so excited to see me when I come home, but lately he has also been doing things like laying at my feet when I am sitting down or I will open the door to let him outside and he will tilt his head and just give me a weird look. He is a chewer, but today he just kind of went nuts in my sons room. What could possibly be wrong with him?

Number one: has he been fixed? If not maybe he is feeling something and would like to do something about it.
Two: Maybe he's bored. I try to make sure my pets aren't bored for too long. I love taking Princess to my mom's or daughters, because there's more going on there--people to pet her, and pets to play with.
Three: I'm sure you've tried getting him bones to chew on and stuff. Princes thinks she has to have a chew bone of some kind with her at all times. There are flavorable ones and plain. These have some flavor. Can't say a brand name, but all the pets love 'em.
Four: Do you walk him? They love to walk and pee on everything they pass. One of my dogs gets so excited that he apparently gets butterflies and goes number two within 10 or more blocks.
Five: Do you get him to fetch. I have two who think I am supposed to play fetch anytime I'm at home.
I hope you will find what's up with him. Maybe he's just takin' a rest.

I meant to say, one of my dogs gets so excited that he apparently gets butterflies and goes number two "five or six times" within 10 or more blocks. My bad.

Several things come to mind when thinking about your dog acting so weird lately.
Dogs do have a sixth sense.
Once in one of my previous discussions, regarding my own dog's undesirable behavior.
A member answered, responding in asking what has changed in my life as changes in my dogs behavior may be a reaction to changes in my own.
My first impression was the change of seasons as I have noticed my dog a bit more "clingy" than usual. This hasn't been ongoing but noticeable a few times.
Today she is wanting to be alone, laying by herself as we watch t.v. whereas usually she is in the chair or on the coasch, right beside me.
My strongest impression is that your dog is bored and lonely.
He went nuts on your sons room because he is bored.
He tilts his head and gives you a weird look when you open the door to let him outside because he wants you to join him.
Do and make it fun and exciting. Dogs need human interaction, daily and enjoy the interaction to be like a party so be enthusiastic. take his favorite toy. WSalk him in the park and throw some sticks. Follow him when he is wandering to scope out a bush and ask him about the puppy dog smells his is sniffing out. Interact with your dog more and on a daily basis, making it fun and being genuinely interested in his enjoyment and I bet that you will find a marked difference in him within the first few days.
I do not think that this is an issue for the vet but if he does start showing signs of being lethargic I would consider it. Is he eating, drinking and going potty as normal? If not, this too could be a warning sign of something with his physical health as appose to his mental health.
Also, what breed is your dog and what age is he?
