When is end of frost date in Southern NJ? Question about Planting Cosmos.....

Good morning~ Does anyone know when the last frost date is in Southern NJ? Does the date change every year, or is it the same? Is it just an estimated date, or is there an actual date that's set?
I have Cosmos seedlings I started from seed, and I'm wondering when it's okay to plant them. But I'm not sure when the frost date is. I'm concerned about planting them too soon. They're little, and I don't want them to die if it's still too cold out.
Let me know whatever you know!
Thanks so much!

hi artsyfartsygal love that user name. Get yourself the newest copy
of WesternGardening Book and do not be thrown by the name. It is so
comprehensive it has planting times for all over the US and a ton of other information everyone needs wherever they live and are trying to'
garden. I cannot use mine now as I a m in a retirement center but mine is in storage. If the price bothers you go to your nearest Library and check out a copy.its really a great book. Hope this helps.

Good morning, Hatley! Thanks for the great tip!
Have a great day,

(P.S. If you live in a retirement center, you might ask the activities director if they could find you a small spot in their yard where you might be allowed to have a small garden.)

The date will vary from year to year. Here it can vary quite a bit, we haven't had a frost since the end of March but we can get them in May some years.
You could try contacting the local meteorlogical office and see what the dates have been in recent years and go for the latest one of those.
Alternatively, you could get some agricultural fleece and keep the plants covered at night to protect them for the next month or so until you are sure it is safe.

Thank you for your reply, hvedra. I appreciate it. I might just call a nearby nursery and see what they might have to say. I have some veggie plants that are in the ground; and I think they're okay so far. I do need to check on them today. My Cosmos are just thin seedlings, so I'm going to check into it more before I go ahead and plant them. Not sure they'd take the cold. It does still get cold here sometimes. Whereabout are you? Hopefully, it'll warm up here in South Jersey. The daytime is generally nice but sometimes still cold. So, we'll see.
Thanks again!
Wish you well with all your gardening this year!
