Thanks for the warning. But, what I don't understand, is that being too fat also causes heart disease, diabetics and cancer. Seems what ever we do, we don't do it right.

That is good information. I guess we have to find a middle way to live. Not a real diet, but a healthy eating pattern. And of course exercise! I have to do more of that.

I could understand if you had stated a particular diet that was bad, however, obesity can lead to diabetes, heart disease and other medical problems. Dieting is not the problem. It's how much and what the person is consuming that is the bad thing. Exercise is good for everyone, whether it's walking, jogging, or what ever other exercises someone enjoys doing. I think in order for you to make your point here, you really need to state what type of dieting you are referring to and a few facts that have been found to back it up.

I've just had a quick look around and this related to a study done to examine the effects of dieting by reducing calorie intake in women. I think the study has only just been published. There is an article in the UK's Daily Mail about this. Just type "Does dieting increase risk of heart disease" into a search engine and you can find it. The study was conducted by California University and was looking at the effects on 121 women of a 1200 calorie diet (recommended daily calorie intake is 2000). They found that the participants showed an increased level of Cortisol (a stress hormone)in the body. Obviously, they are looking at the fact that stress is already known to increase risk factors such as heart disease and so a higher level of Cortisol would increase this risk. However, the study was a pretty small study and would need more bigger studies. Essentially they are saying, if dieting, not to reduce your calorie intake beyond what the body actually needs. Sensible dieting is okay. Typical of a newspaper to sensationalise it. Hope this information helps x
