HOV stands for High Occupancy Vehicle . This lane is meant for vehicles like buses, vanes or other modes of transportation that carry more than 2 people or could be considered a carpool.

I dont know, what is HOV lane anyway? and why knowing the reason its called HOV lane be important to you?

The first person who answered this discussion was right, it means High Occupancy Vehicle Lane. That means that you have to have more than one person, usually, in the car to drive in that lane. In some places, you have to have three or more.
