Ironic...

So, who wants to hear something ironic!? lol I am almost at the end of my first semester of college, and I am really loving it. I'm going full time, I'm taking 4 classes; Child Development, Psychology, English 101, and an online College Success class. Here's the irony...I have high A's in Child Development, Psychology and English 101-and I will most definitely end the year with A's in those 3 classes. But I am not doing very well in my COLLEGE SUCCESS class! lol. I might end the semester with a C in that class-at least I hope I do! I think that it's the fact that it is online that is throwing me. And I've missed a few assignments because it's so difficult to find out when things are due because of the layout. The assignments I do get turned in I do well in, I'm getting 100's on them--but it's just those assignments I didn't know were due that are bringing my grade down. I just find it funny that I'm not doing well in my college success class, but I have high A's in all my other classes. Obviously I can be successful in college without that class! I only took it because my advisor highly recommended it--now I wish I didn't take it! lol

What a load of bull - "College Success class"? That sounds like some kind of what might be called an "easy" course. We didn't have classes like that back in MY day... (well it was almost 40 yrs ago now...)

Yeah that's what I thought when I heard about it, and I wasn't going to even bother taking it. But my advisor really stressed that it would help me do better in college (i guess I didn't need it!) lol The class would be easy if I could figure out the online thing. It's just that the assignments are spread out between several folders and it's hard to keep track of them!

I guess, my next advice is hind sight, but it may help with your next college course. You are a smart and wise girl, so you have probably all ready figured it out. If you are again required to take an online course. I would recommend to you, to get the outline, and all assignment due dates, on Day 1, and put them into their own separate little folder, with email reminders each as soon as you believe it to be necessary to start working on the project, based on your work load and its due date. What do you think of that idea? With Appreciation.

The online part was a requirement, but there was only one or two campus times and they didn't fit with my other classes times. So I'm really trying to avoid taking another online class. But if I ever do have to, I like your idea. I can set it up so it'll remind me by email when things are due? Because I check my email every day and that would be a big help! Having another folder would be good too! Thank you CJ

I taught that class. It's not the most exciting. See if you can find a site map. Then see if there is a dated course outline that has the dates for everything. When I taught class, we were supposed to hand one out by the end of the third class. Maybe there is an assignment due date class. I've never taught online, I'd like to. If I did, you can be sure that my students would know when their assignments are due. Take care. Glass you have 3/4 your classes are As.

Yeah it definitely isn't a very exciting class! I wish I hadn't taken it, but my advisor made it seem like it was important. I don't think there is any kind of map of assignments, but it wouldn't really help me now. We only have a few assignments left, only about a month left of this semester.

Oh, I don't think this site has a site map--but my online teacher has assignments that are due spread out in a few different folders. It was just really confusing for me! That's why I'm going to try and avoid any more online classes.

I would be surprised if it didn't have a site map. Maybe your college success instructor is new to teaching online or has the due dates somewhere that you don't know about. Have you emailed or IM'ed this teacher to find out where the due dates are? You might want to explain to the person who helps you pick courses why there was/is a problem. If you get A's at home, then sounds like you can study anywhere. When I taught college success, they were pushing it for everyone. They had a Nurse taking the course. Not someone who wanted to be a Nurse, a certified Nurse. She could have been teaching the course. That was a big waste of her time. She received an A. I asked her if she at least learned something new and no she didn't. But she did validate the importance of what I was teaching to the students and gave "for instances" of when each thing works best. People who have been out of school for years, don't have a High School diploma, had a "lacking" high school transcript, I can see it, esp. people who say they don't know how to study. But for many students, it was a waste.

It wasn't really mandatory...I wasn't forced to take it...but when I spoke to my advisor he really stressed on me that I should take it. He said it would be helpful to me...if I had taken this class on campus, I'm pretty sure I'd be getting an A as well...it's just the online thing!

Interesting indeed, and quite Ironic. I am so very happy that you are achieving such high grades, hopefully, they will ignore the poor mark in college success class, because you have proven that you have the fine art of success in college mastered. That will run over into other parts of your life, never lose your dream, and you will always be a success. With Love and Appreciation.

Great advice you gave in my discussion - we didn't have computers back when I was in school - and I would've never thought about that GREAT advice!

Well we HAVE to get at least a C to get our 3 credits for the class, so if I actually get a D (*knock on wood*) I don't know what I am suppose to do about it! Do I just take the class off my course map and act like it never happened (and just have to take an extra class to get the 3 missing credits) or will it effect me negatively some way That's what I'm most worried about! But Elic's right--great advice! Thank you!

Shouldn't you automatically get an A in that class, because you are doing well overall? That's kooky. Sounds like it should be nothing more than a progress report, or study hall type of deal.

Lol I was tempted to email my teacher and tell him that I was getting high A's in all my other classes...but I didn't, thought it was too irrelevant. lol I think if I had taken the class on campus, I would have an A in it too!

lol! Thats just too funny. I know at my university the advisors were pushing a class similar to your college success class and I downright told them "no, I'm not paying for a bs class when I have so many others I NEED to take in order to get my degree." If I were you, see if you can talk to someone about perhaps doing extra credit or something along those lines so this class doesn't hurt your overall GPA.

That's what I should have done! Ugh, wish I could go back in time lol I was thinking that if I didn't get the needed C to get the credits (knock on wood) would it just disappear, like I never took the class? And I'd just have to take an extra class down the road to make up for it? As long as I get a C I'll be happy....hopefully I'll continue to get A's and my GPA won't be too hurt! Thank you
