What is the meaning of life?

We hear this question a lot in today's society, but the truth is it is something that humankind has wondered about since the dawn of time. No matter what we do, we are an inquisitive species. This is as unavoidable and inevitable as the rising sun. So rather than attempt to forget this seemingly unanswerable question, I want to explore it.
The meaning of life is going to be different for each of us. To some, the meaning of life is taking care of their children. To others, it's getting rich and famous. It depends on who you are, and your perspective on the world. Our experiences in life greatly influence how we see the world, and that is why I pose this question to you.
I don't want to hear a default response like "the purpose of life is to explore one's soul." I want to hear your personal meaning of life. What is it that drives you so fiercely to be alive? What do you see in the world that makes all the hardships and struggles worth it?
For me, the meaning of life is to survive all of the hard times and use the knowledge I gain from them to help my fellow humans on their paths. My purpose is to live, love, and cherish the gift of life I have been given. Whether or not there is anything after this life is irrelevant; I have no way of knowing what death will bring, and therefore my purpose in life can only be to enjoy what I have, while I have it.

Life has many meanings. There's really a lot of it. It just depends on the person on how he or she think on what life truly is.

Each one makes its way in life. As he believes. Or how it succeeds. There is no generalized definition for the meaning of life. We are unique.
The meaning of life changes from one age to another ... to have friends, to have a girlfriend (boyfriend), to finish school, raise a family and a career, you retire, you have the money for maintenance ... .... All have an effect, depending on which angle you look at things.
Much thought, we judge others and we do not like to be judged.

I think the meaning of life we have now is to get prepared for the next life which is going to be somewhat difficult but not as because this life is hard now. If we enter into the next life with the knowledge we are suppose to have then it's going to be a piece of cake.
Everyday I live to make my son and hubby very happy. I live everyday to see that smile on my son's face to hear his laugh to wipe away his tears, to provide and protect his precious life and give him stability.
Have a nice day

i like yer mindset.. as mine is primarily similar.
i her alot of people saying that the purpose of life is to go to heaven o.O theyre just simply waiting to die.. and be done with all this? if thats the case, then whats the point at all?
beleive or not yerself (or others who might read this) i beleive whole heartedly in an afterlife.. as well as reincarnation. been there, done that. and THIS.. this is what its about. to live. to breath to feel to experience sense taste touch love lose grieve hurt celebrate. this is the gift. that is the purpose

i think this is a good topic which have to say a different my idea is that we have to do the thing which we are commanded and so that we will have to work hard to do the thing correct and we have to plan what we do and we have to go with the correct way and put our mind in the way that is correct for us and to others..if we do something good to us them that will be bad to others so it is good to think it is good or not and they have a lot of fun..

For me, the meaning of life is to live bettter and realize my dreams. At present I hope I can purchase an department for my family. I support my parents and my daugher, so I want to earn more money to let them live better. About my dreams, when everything goes well, I want to travel the world. I am just a common person,so I have simple aims. I think this is life. Life is to live, to love, to give.

This probably has to be one of the most powerful questions in existence today! I think the meaning of life is very close to how you have described it. I guess the meaning of life for me is to obviously be happy and content deep inside. I have a few possessions as well and I really cherish them! I think we are here to obviously enjoy our lives as well as possibly contributing in the support of others that may be finding life that much more difficult to cope with. This may be different for each and everyone of us but all the same, I do believe in some kind of existence afterwards but I don't know exactly what that is. This at least gives me hope and keeps me going through think and thin! Andrew

The purpose of my life is to become better person, seek for inner harmony, wisdom, free myself from negative elements, learn as many things as possible in this very short time.In other words, to grow as a personality.I there's an afterlife, I won't be able to take my house and car there to prove that my life wasn't vain.

it is hard to define exactly what life it as it means differently to each and everyone. the meaning of life for me is my family, my friends, the trees around me, the flowers, anything and everything that I love. that's what life is for me.

I totally agree with you that life is explore one's soul..The meaning of life constitutes a philosophical question concerning the purpose and significance of life or existence in general. People like to say, as if it were obvious, that life is hard to define. This is misleading. Life has properties that clearly distinguish it from everything. I enjoy my life and live each moment. I am very happy with my life I am leading. Thanks.

"the meaning of life is to increase fitness"
this is the quick answer to this fundamental question. in order to start giving the long answer, we should first examine each of the key terms in this sentence
MEANING:
a very complex concept which can have many interpretations. In this context
we will assume it signifies the "why" (origin-past) or "wherefore"
(purpose-future) of life, but in a way our answer also may explain us
the "what" (definition-present).
LIFE:
in this context it normally means our present being here on earth, but
this may be generalized to include life as particular type of
organization and development characterizing biological organisms, and
even more universally as organization and development in general.
FITNESS
intuitively, a system, configuration or "state-of-affairs" is fit if it
is likely that that configuration will still be around in the future.
The more likely we are to encounter that system, the more fit it is.
Though there are many ways to be fit, depending on the exact situation,
we may say that fit systems tend to be intrinsically stable, adapted
and adapting to their surroundings, capable of further growth
and development, and/or capable of being (re)produced in great quantities.
INCREASE
this should be obvious enough. The use of the term "increase" implies that the concept to which it is attributed, "fitness", is to some degree quantifiable. Note, however, that it is everything but obvious how to do this: fitness is difficult to measure, and is relative, depending on situation, environment and moment in time. At the very least, we assume that there exists a partial ordering, i.e.some configurations are more fit than others. A more general form of the answer is "not to decrease fitness": in some circumstances it may be good enough to keep fitness the way it is. Increase of fitness determines a preferred direction of evolution

I think the meaning of life is somewhat the same for all humans. Unlike animals, humans have intelligence and instead of just going about and surviving, we actually go beyond that. As humans, we explore and invent things and that is the meaning of life for me. We have it in our power to make changes, to actually do interesting things like explore space while animals simply live and die.
We have made our existence both more interesting and complicated - there is more to do than looking for food. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the meaning of life was just to live. Today, we live well enough that we can spend most of our lives doing other things so now, the meaning of our lives is to explore and to understand this crazy universe we live in.

The meaning of life is to strive to success. For me, it doesn't mean a thing if you just live life without being successful even once. It's absurd. We have goals and those goals are meant to be reached how far it is.

You have some good meaning of life. I think in a similar way, live is great because no matter how hard or difficult things can get there's always a way of moving forward and with every experience you live you get more knowledge that will help you in your path. I also like to share my knowledge with others, that's why I keep returning to forums and places like mylot.
What makes me want to live are a simple things: friendship and love.

That is an old age question. Mankind has searched far and low to find the answer to that question. In a spiritual sense, the meaing of life is worshipping our Creator and rendering him sacred service. For a personal perspective though, the meaning of life is to have your life it's meaning in a sense that it's worth living over again if you are given a choice to live again. the simpleness and worthness of how you live gives meaning to life. How you spend it and how others view you gives a great impact on life. It's not that you have to please everyone to have a meaningfull life but to satisfy yourself on things you want to do gives the feeling of satisfaction. Life is a mystery and so is its meaning. That is why there is still no definite answer to that old age question.
