Hydroquinone is used as a topical application in skin whitening to reduce the color of the skin as it does not have common predisposition to cause dermatitis as METOL does. It has been banned in some countries including USA and Europe by discovering that it is a potential carcinogen.
Be sure to check the components of a whitening product before using it. If it contains hydroquinone, better not use it than to have skin cancer. There are natural ways to whiten our skin, though it takes a longer time it can be assured that it will not threaten your health.
