I prefer to sleep on the floor now

It is so hot since last two days, there is cloud in the sky but as there is no rain it makes the weather hot and gloomy. Sleeping on thick mattress is no more comfortable. So I just switch on the dessert cooler and lie on the marble floor, no sheets, no mattress over it, just pillows below my head. It is really cool.
My wife sleeps on a bed with a 4 inch thick Curlon mattress, due to back pain, she can’t sit on floor. But she keeps kidding me, telling, ‘It seems you are sleeping on the open marble platforms of Tajmahal , enjoying the cool breeze’. Lol the cool marble floor, really feels like Tajmahal to me, I enjoy a cool nap in noon and sleep like a log in night.
What about your bed, you use mattress and pillows or not. Have you ever tried sleeping on floor like me in hot weather? Just try; you will be transported to Tajmahal of India.
Happy posting, cheers

I find it fascinating when people like your good self comment on weather from all over the world. As you may or may not know Britain isn't the hottest destination in the world...but it has its moments, then we all moan about it!
Obviously, I have heard of the Taj Mahal and I like the description of the marble floor so that you are "transported" there.
I just find it amazing how people can find novel ways of keeping themselves cool, especially when they want to sleep.
Here in Cumbria the highest temperature I have experienced (been here 5 years) is about 27 degrees C! I remember hanging the washing out and it all dried in about 20 minutes.
As for sleeping in the heat. Well, we don't really need air conditioning so tend to open the windows, which, amazingly, usually does the trick. If it is really humid, however, sleep isn't easy for us Brits so we tend to be rather irritable the following morning as we don't know how to cope with it, unlike you my friend.

27 C is very comfortable my friend. Now even with AC set at coolest 18 degrees the temp is 31, though not uncomfortable..
Thanks for response.

Hi Prof,
Well, I sleep on a Sleepwell matress put on a bed. But, I have my Air Conditioner which makes the room really cool - well, back here, there is no cloud in the sky, and the mercury rises upto 40 degrees. It is red hot during the afternoons. I have read in a book which says that sleeping on the floor makes your backbone stronger and shapes your back too.

hi professor I am in California in the US so its not that hot here,
in fact although its April the nights are still pretty cool, we
had our little space heater on last night, and I sleep on a bed
with two big pillows. a light comforter and a blanket over me,its
not hot like it must be in India.marble floor, sounds so lovely
and I can imagine it would be cool to sleep on too. I have never
been to the Taj mahal but would love to see it in person one day.
Is India where they have the monsoons? I remember reading about
it, but was not sure. Our weather here as been really just right
about 75 out most days. and thats just comfortable.

There is no way in this world that I would be able to sleep on the marble floor like you do. I do have back problems so that means that I need to have some of the cushion to be able to sleep like your wife does. It does tend to get hot in our room from time to time and when this happens, that is the time that the blankets start to come off of the bed. But, I always have to have at least a sheet to cover me up. As far as pillows go, I have to have two pillows on my side of the bed to be able to sleep.

I do not mind sleeping on the floor, as long as it is cooling and keep the heat away. I guess this is a more healthy and economical way of sleeping as compared to switching on the aircon and which also consumes energy. You inspire me to make way on my floor to have a good night's sleep. I'm sure with just a pillow it's not too difficult to sleep. I would rather ache then being forced to sweat like a melting ice cream.

Yes, the floor thus give a very cooling effect most especially at this time where it is very hot. I sometimes sleep on the floor at home. I usually place a blanket and then sleep on the floor. But most often I sleep on my bed inside my room.

Well, I sleep on sleepwell foam mattress with pillow on my bed. I have no problem sleeping as I have AC in my room and I enjoy sleeping. I have no problem at all and I am just enjoying summer these days. I just pray there is no power cut otherwise can't say how will I sleep. Yes, last year there was a frequent power cut and it was a sleepless night. I have slept on floor also many a times but when I went to my grand ma's house there was a marriage ceremony and there was many people so we went to my friends house to sleep and because she was just alone, it was summer and we asked her to give a mat to sleep and we sleep on it. It was cool feeling but I can't sleep many days. Just one day is more than enough.. I wish the days be never be in future.

sleep on the floor indeed nice because our body feels cold, but you must know, at state cold temperatures will shrink the blood vessels so that blood supply will be disrupted, especially in the back area so that it often will cause complaints in the back ... that's reason why I never sleep on the floor
