Recover folders after Reformatting

I know it's possible to recover files from a hard disk that has been reformatted several times. But is it possible to recover the whole folder? Usually, some of the files that has been recovered were corrupted. Are there any ways to fix them?

if what you mean is with the whole structure like C:\myfolder. nop what you can do is recover the files inside the folder. that is because when you format you create a File allocation system or FAT. That is a table similar to the index of a book who tells to the computer where in the hard drive is each file. when you make a regular format what you do is not to erase the whole drive but to erase this table so the files keep there but without a route. but another thing is that when you format a computer if you start to copy files into the disk the new files will replace the one that were there in the previous format so not all the time you might be able to recover all the data.

Thank you for the brief explanation. I'm aware of most of it. But you answered my question. I was just wondering if it's possible to recover the whole folder so that I don't have to do it one at a time. LOL. Thank you very much maikeruk.

There is no way to recover files from a hard drive that has been formatted. The reason file recovery is possible when you delete a file is because it is not deleted immediately. Your hard drive just marks it as available space to be overwritten, but that overwrite may not happen for several days or weeks. However, when you format a disk, it completely deletes all information on the drive, rendering it impossible to recover anything there.

Hi mezelu. Thank you for the response. I'd like to correct you. It is really possible to recover files from a formatted hard drive. You can even recover files even if it has been formatted several times. I have recovered some important files from my old hard drive that has been formatted a few times. So it's really possible.

Yikes, it is my dearest wish you get an answer to your inquiry. After about the 3rd time this has happened to me, I have started to keep all my important folders on thumb drives, or CD's, I prefer thumb drives. Just something to think about. With Appreciation.

Hi there, maybe you are right it is possible to recover files after formatting, but i strongly insist you do a back just in case ... its not possible. As a general rule, back up important files in a DVD disc.

When I upgraded from XP to Windows 7, I was asked whther I wanted to backup the info in my C: Drive or not. I chose Yes and the older XP C: drive files were stored in a folder called WIndows.Old in C:/ itself. So, I did not face the problem. If you are talking about other OS, I would ask you to go in [safe mode] and backup your files either in an external drive or compressing the files and mailing it to yourself.

LOL. I'd like to address this comment to all responses that suggested that I do a back up first. I appreciate all the advices and explanations. I do back up my files every now and then even though I'm not going to format my pc. I just wanted to know if it's possible to recover the whole folder. I'm not really asking how to back up. But I do appreciate your concerns and and suggestions. Have a nice day mylotters!

recovering files from a hard disk after a clean reformat will not always render 100% retrieval results, no matter what software you will use, as far i a know. so it better to back up files always before reformatting any drives.
