Norwegian city/village in winter - Norwegian winter at Røros, used to be a mining community some hundred years ago. The frosty fog is from the river, it hadn't frozen yet and it was -25 degrees.
I'm better at nature than urban photography, but I'm testing it out. I like using a telephotolens to take pictures of details on buildings, people without them noticing (of course that limits what I can use the pictures for), weird things for sale if I'm abroad and urban wildlife. When I was in Riga some weeks ago I used my wideangle a lot for buildings and streets. I like taking pictures at times of the day when it's not too crowded. Depends on what you want of course, but some times a couple of people makes the picture better but a lot only makes a mess. If you use a tripod or a something else to set the camera on you can get lot of nice shots with blurrs. Make sure that you're not standing in they way of somebody as they might know your camera down :-)

yes you are right. the important thing is that you are not invading someone's privacy. And it creates more drama when the shots are stolen. Thank you for the idea to use telephotolenses in taking shots.

what kind of urban settings do you mean? it's a bit different if you want to have portraits of people in them, like some of those images from photojournalists. it takes a bit of tact and skill to get your subject to be comfortable with their photo being taken. what do you have in mind for urban settings?
