In human society, what we find is that the persons of these two types! Some persons heading towards knowledge and some others towards profit! The people of profit track only use the skills of the people of knowledge track to generate theit profit! And it is a fact that without knowledge, based on continuous search and research and accepting the results, profit can never be made stable and sound!
So in this process, we as humans, where are we heading to? For knowledge or for profit? Please discuss your views on this!!

Some may be towards knowledge and some would be for profit. I consider myself a person going towards profit coz the reason why I gain knowledge is for the sake of having profit. We should admit that without profit, we cannot live a better life so why gain knowledge if you will not benefit from it right? It is just a single person's opinion anyway :D

Correct, it's a single person's opinion! I personally believe in "Love what you do" rather than "Do what you love". That says it all.

I would think that knowledge is the first step towards profit. Knowledge of what is needed or desired by the people, will lead to profit for me if I can fulfill that need or desire.

I think we all want to gain knowledge to earn something and make our life better. But it is true that some people go greedy and way to much materialistic. Relatively people are getting more greedy and materialistic day by day. The good thing is that there are still people who only work for our society and for human being as a whole. Those people does not think much about getting something in return. There will be always all kind of people, and because of all those good people the world is still a nice place to live.

hi mitraa how can people profit if they are not intelligent and
have obtained sufficient knowledge to know what the hell they
are doing. A brain surgeon for example worked long hard hours
learning how to help and save people's lives by the knowledge
he will obtain, and when he does start his practice he will earn
quite well. so you cannot separate the two, they have to go
together. I think most are heading for a combination of the two, it
not that simple or that cut and dried to say one or the other.

There are different types of people who may strive for knowledge, profit or a little bit of both. I like to think that for me, profit is not the be all and end all and there are more important things in life. Having said that making monetary profit is what we need in order to surviv but some people make profit and money their religion. Personally I think learning and growing as a person is far more valuable.

Majority of people nowadays are so profit oriented that they think of education as nothing more than a stepping-stone to a good career in life. That is why when highly profitable small businesses and jobs that didn't require much education emerged, these people didn't want to study anymore because they believed that with these new jobs and businesses, they don't need education anymore. This is wrong. Without the highly educated people, these new jobs and businesses wouldn't have even emerged in the first place. If we would all think like them, our society would be stagnant. Or worse, it could deteriorate. I don't blame people who can't afford education. After all, when you don't have much you would allocate your money to things that you need to survive. But I hate it when I see people who can study but just don't. Learning doesn't only happen inside a classroom. We can learn things through our own initiative, by reading books or by doing other things that would make us learn.

Well this is an interesting question indeed. Personally I have my own take on this as one person who feels that I do both.
Number one is that I like to learn new things and have knowledge myself. Secondly, I like to help people so when I can if this knowledge is pertinent then I share it. If I feel that I can profit from it and use it to create an income I do so, but not before sharing with others freely.
That is my own take on this...

I think every one is going for profit but the thing is that the way towards profit comes by crossing the way to the knowledge. Any thing that we learn is the knowledge that we get. It could be from very simple daily task to the experiences we get in our life. The knowledge we get we use it for our profit. Profit could be material for spiritual.

Very good question, thought provoking! Very true that people are of these two types. There are people who blindly follow the conventions and are methodical just to earn bucks. They are not learners and lead a monotonous life.
While there are few people who actually know what they are doing and love their job, learning from every aspect of their field of work. They are gutsy enough to take bold decisions and tend to take risks regardless of their earnings.
Most of these are entrepreneurs who apply their knowledge and make things go their way.
In my case, I frankly say I love being methodical and can follow a routine without fatigue or regrets as I'm passionate for earning money and enjoying all the luxuries of life. Though, I am an ardent lover of computer skills and mastering the designing skills.

Well I am sure you could agree we need both and one works with the other, fist knowledge and then gain profit, regardless of what you do

You are right in your classification Mitraa, most are heading for profit, i mean money in any form, but there is a point of saturation, once you have your home, enough bank balance and some stady source of income like me, why should you run after money, better go for knowledge, share it with the world..
Thank you so much for this nice discussion, cheers
God bless you.
