3 people shot and 2 killed only 1 mile from my home

I notice the news vans on the road this morning while I was taking my son to school. I was curious what was going on there, so I looked it up on the internet when I got back home. Someone broke into a home around 4 this morning and shot 3 people. 2 of those people died. I think I would be a little more freaked out about this had the family of the victims not said the knew who did it. So, it was not some random shooting. This shooting took place 1 mile from my home and about 1/2 mile from my son's school. Do you get freaked out when bad things happen so close to home? http://www.kmov.com/news/slideshows/Triple-shooting-in-south-St-Louis-leaves-2-dead-91690859.html

Yes I do. We are such a small little Island that the bad news can get me sometimes. Amazingly we are in the top five of countries that do not have crime against tourists. But oh, there is fighting amongst ourselves! Mostly political and gang related. Last night, when it was dark, I came from the Villa and parked just outside of the next Villa to call the owner and tell her that the guests were having a great time. I had arranged a band, barbecue and a Birthday party. As I was talking to her I heard a noise and there were two young men by my car and they were trying the back doors of the car to see if they were open. Fortunately I had not turned off the engine and just put my foot on the pedal and sped off. I was stupid to stop in the dark in a lonely place but I have driven everywhere on this Island without problems before. Recession, 30 % unemployment and desperate people who are hungry will always push the button for some people. No unemployment benefits and a family to take care of will make some people desperate enough to turn to crime. I am so sorry that you had this experience, dear Lilybug, and i hope that you recover from this unfortunate incident. Many blessings

How scary for you to have someone try to get into your car while you were still sitting in it. I am glad you still had the car running and were able to get away from them.

Yeh! The heart did race a bit as my foot hit the accelerator. But it was on a deserted road so it was my own fault. I am so thankful that the car doors were locked. I do not always lock my car doors- but never again. I have learnt my lesson well!

Wow that's scary. I probably would be freaked out. I've never known anything like that to happen near me, but I also don't pay a whole lot of attention to things like that.

I only noticed it because Jeremy pointed it out to me. He said something about the area being on the news and I said it is usually only on the news when someone gets killed. Sure enough I was right. They had someone in custody the same day, so hopefully that crap is over.

Oh my god that is just awful. I do get freaked out when stuff like this happens especially around where I live but I have gotten used to it because I am always hearing the police around where I live. I've seen some of them stop people before and search them and stuff like that. There have always been shootings around where I live and everytime it happens I can't help but feel sorry for those involved and also worried for my safety because it is very dangerous to live in a place where stuff like this happens.

Wow, that's awful. I think it would freak me out, but like you said the people knew the killer. The convenience store right next to my house got robbed before, I was really uneasy for a while thereafter. I think all types of violence freaks us out sometimes, whether near or far.

You must be careful from this matter. It's dangerous if the things happened around our house.

I sure do! That would be very scary....even if they knew who did it....it seems to me that I would still be very scared....not just for myself but for my kids too!

I only get freaked out if it is random and there is "no reason" for it. So many crimes are crimes of passion/hate, or crimes based on revenge. I think there will be more random acts of violence as the economy worsens. I live in Florida so we are still being hit with layoffs and the shuttle program ending. We will see how it effects the economy as a whole in 2011. The program is scheduled to end this year and over 5500 people will be laid off from one company.

I not only get freaked out but i get jitters and lament a=what this world is coming to.Sometimes i read in the news that past differences or enmity could lead to such unsavory incidents. The fact that the victims said they knew who was responsible points to the fact that there could have been differences which lead to this ghastly incident.
