How useful is the camera on your phone?

The first Digital camera I got had 3.2 MP resolution a few years back now..My current phone, getting a little long in the tooth, almost equals that, having 3.0 MP resolution,so I'd almost rather leave the bulkier and battery hungry camera home and keep the phone with me at all times..Does the camera on your phone mean you don't need to carry a compact or SLR around some or most of the time? I'd be of the opinion camera resolution would be one of the things manufacturers would be trying to improve constantly, but there's so many new phones on the market with resolution of 2MP or less..good photographic quality Cameras on phones seem to be the exception... what do you think? Should a camera phone have a good functional camera? or like so many, can they get away with a low spec one?

The call plan I had didn't include data..I've just switched back to a pay as you go plan that does!

I think it depends what you need to take pictures of. I have mainly used the camera on my phone for taking pictures of things in shops to show people things that I know they have been looking for - it's much easier than trying to describe things like clothes. I only take my camera out with me if I am pretty sure I'm likely to use it, for example if I'm going for a walk where there is lovely scenery or buildings. I am worried about taking my camera out all the time in case it gets damaged!

For snapshots, the phone camera is fine for day to day use.that's a perfect example of how useful the camera phone can be when out shopping and seeing something you'd like to send or show someone else! you can get an opinion from the other person (maybe) while you're still in the department..

I'd bought my "Old" phone from a guy who'd had an upgrade and decided to sell it on..The "SIM Only" provider deal I have didn't include a phone,so that saved costs..and then last week,I saw my provider was now offering a free phone at the same monthly cost! So I went for a New Phone..a Sony Ericsson with a 5MP camera..I'm liking this camera a lot..I found a recipe I liked online, then took a snap of it on the screen with the camera, and in the kitchen was able to look at the photo, zooming in on the clear text it gave, and follow the recipe!

Generally, you don't expect high quality photography from a snapshot..but it'll do the job until you have a "proper" camera along with you...

I don't really use the camera on my phone all that much. It does come in handy though when I need a picture fast, and I don't have any other camera but the one on the phone. It is more convenient though to have it than carry my digital camera around which is bulky. I have used the camera on my phone a few times, but mostly I will use my bulky digital camera, since it takes better pictures. Take care, and happy mylotting.

So,for You the quality of the resulting photo is more important than just using the camera phone you would have with you..Quality would be important for Me too,as the flash on the phone isn't really up to a decent shot in poor light conditions,so that's where I'd be let down by it.The other issue would be speed..my older digital camera in photo grabbing terms, took AGES to warm up-if I had somebody posing while I got the camera ready, the "Cheese" grin would be fairly fixed looking by the time I got to take the snap! There's nothing wrong with the results from it in daylight, but as a fast snapshot camera, forget it..The phone Cam has similar limitations..if it's a moving subject,a still shot will be blurred,so it's easier to go to video recording with it instead!

I think the camera on my phone is useless for I never use it!!
I think the phone should not have the function of taking photos, for the quality of pictures taken by a phone camera is so low..just for this reason I never use my phone camera if I want to take photos I would like to take a camera with me

Good as the resolution of the phone camera may be,it's only of limited use in photo situations..the flash isn't up to much outside of an up close shot..Useful as having the camphone to hand is,the limitations meant I gave up and ended up buying a dedicated camera ..
