Hi,
I think it is more than likely a generational thing. Other reasons can be a fear of not understanding or struggling with it, or simply a lack of interest. For someone who has maybe been living a simple and happy life without the interruption of technology and gadgetry its simply not a necessity.
My nan is quite happy with a PC, both myself and other family members have shown her how to use and she has also been to classes to learn using basic softwares etc.
In the main though she uses to play little gamesor just keep occupied.

I think that it really depends on the person and has very little to do with age. I know people who are much younger than I am and who who know nothing about computers and I also know lots of older people like my sister, who will be 70 next year, who are quite happy using computers and the Internet.

It depends on the person if he/she is adventurous, he/she would try it. Otherwise, regardless the age, they won't dare touch it.
I could well attest to that because I know of old people who are proficient with the computer or the internet, well more than the youngsters are. It's not a matter of age but actually I think it's the person. If he/she is still curious to know about things then that would happen.
Further, if the person is exposed to technology, I think that's a big factor too. I mean, I have a cousin in the province who wasn't exposed to technology that he was really afraid to go inside a movie theater. He was about 12years old then.
On the other hand, my mom who's in her 50's wouldn't want to touch the computer even if she sees us using it everyday.
So, it's up to the person.

Well, they are not accustomed to the PC like us - It is new to them. Well, when we were first introduced to a PC, we did not start off with a HTML code directly - we waited, got accustomed, explored and we got used to it as result. Just like that, it takes some time for them. My father's uncle who is 75 years old can open IE and check his mails, reply to his son and daughter's mails.

I guess they are because this technology was not present when they were young. I think you should not force them if they do not but you can slowly encourage them by showing them like other old people using PC and let them know that there is nothing to fear about it at all.

yes any new thing for them now is very hard to learn.
there are number of reasons behind this. as old people have many bad experiences too due to lack of information of the latest technologies. so this scare is a psychological thing.
you must only realize them how much easy this is and they must not worry about any problem with the system.

no... nobody was born who knew how to computer.... it is learned. thus, it is not that difficult for the old people to learn it.. just like how i learned to use computer...
it is just a matter of how interested you are in learning computer matters...

i dont think so. i think that computer is hard for old person who are not interested to learn it. but for those who are willing they can learn it easily. like my grandmother we taught him a year ago. becuase she is very willing to learn, she now can open and send email.after a week of teaching her
