Do you think lawyers really care about the clients they represent or do you think they are in it to see how much they can make from the case? Are there lawyers who are not concerned about how much they make in a case or is it the norm to get as much as you can ?

I think lawyers are rated on how many cases they have won, even if those cases are controversial or their clients are really criminals. They are paid more if they win a case of course. There are lawyers who are branded being criminal's lawyers. But they have studied in universities to learn how to win a case, so why would they want their case to lose? It's just up to them if they will accept clients that are controversial or not.

I never think that the lawyers can care about their clients sincerely. They care about their profits much more. The lawyers are selfish and practical persons. I love China

I think that alot of lawyers are selfish and the selfless and unselfish ones are one in a million.. but they exist. I hope some day to be a lawyer or get my degree in law only so that poor people will have someone to represent them.. I think there should be a fraternity of lawyers who will take on those who cannot afford to pay. .that there never be anyone whose rights are not honored simply because they were poor and had no one to stand up for them.

In my opinion, the lawyers are the most liar people on earth, they can win the case even it is guilty and there are scripted from the witnesses. Have you not notice if there are lots of rich people acquitted from the case? It is because they paid enough money to their lawyer in order to be free from it. So lawyer has no feelings to help unwealthy people, it is their plan to get rich in just one winning case, it is a jackpot prize for them. Like i said it is only my opinion, base on my observation.

I think you are 100 percent right.. The bigger the dollar amount won the more glory the lawyer sees for himself.. sometimes.. I say sometimes because there are really caring lawyers and really honest judges and prosecutors and legal teams. That being said, I go back to saying corruption is rampant in the legal system. Who can pay the most..that is the one who wins.

i think it depends to the kind of lawyer, theres still some that offer their help to the victim or their client though theres some whose into money and theres some whose into reputation, like they must win the case to increase their reputation so that a lot of client will ask for his service. even though the client is right or wrong as long us they will win it.

I think you hit the nail on the head "reputation" .."what will others think of me if I take this case on"..Too many criminals walk away because prosecutors get cold feet and start to worry about their reputation.

well, I think that the most of them don't care about their clients and they just do itfor the money, but the real lawyers do care for the clients, becaues they feel the need to defend the people who pay them, they feel the need to make something that they actually do not becaues of the money, but because of that, that they like it

I think the pharse client pay them to care..somehow doesn't smack of true care. .Would they care if they were not being paid. Would they do one case free for ever 3 paid cases they win? How many victims go unhelped because they have no voice and no one to defend them

It very much depends on the type of lawyer. I do not feel that criminal lawyers are particularly inclined to care about the clients that they represent. I suspect that they are driven primarily by a desire to win their case and subsequently heighten their reputation. That heightened repuation, afterall, will ultimately lead to an increased case load, higher fees, and a better way of life. Human rights lawyers and legal aid lawyers, on the other hand, do genuinely care about the people they represent; which is why they were drawn to those particular fields in the first place. Unlike criminal lawyers, they are driven by internal - rather than external - factors. I'd like to add that I actually undertook two years of a law degree. Mid-way through my studies I had a falling out with a lecturer over his rather lacklustre view on ethics. He was adamant that the last place in which morality should be showcased was the courtroom. I disagreed wholeheartedly and decided that law was not the career for me.

It's a shame that the unethical manners of your professor could make you turn from carrying on with your degree. It should have fueled you all the more to be the light in the long era of darkness The law and legal system doesn't have to be corrupt.. Just sometimes corruption eats away at what should be a fair trial

littlefranciscan, In the first place, lawyers are professionals and they are remunerated according to their legal services provided. As such, you can say that their charges are actually their livelihood and there's nothing selfish or wrong in charging legal fees even if they are exorbitant. It is just according to the work done and the structured fee tabled by the legal fraternity. Though the fees may be structured, legal aid or services isn't and it is really individual. The same amount of work may measure up to some while it can be sitting on the other end of the balance for the other half of the pool of clients. Legal cases vary with the degree of intensity and the amount of work done. Now, as you know most lawyers actually come with recommendations and rarely are they approached directly. Yet, as the time develop where there are clients who simply do not heed the advice offered and just demand unnecessary litigation and expensive court sessions. On the other hand, there are quite a number of successful lawyers who would offer Pro bono legal counsel to the legal aid. So, there are lawyers who are sensitive and does philanthropy in the legal services too.

Lawyer as a profession has become quite lucrative. Barring a few exceptions the tendency appears to be to make as much money as they can from the clients. This appears to be so in our country, looking at the situation of long pending cases and the judgements coming after many years when the significance of the justice becomes eroded. A sincere lawyer also has to yield to unscrupulous ones when the cases get adjourned. The judiciary, supported by law and lawyers, remains helpless. The Law enforcement authorities like police and other civil authorities being inept or corrupt, complicate the situations, and comply with the wishes of the clients or lawyers. A truly professional lawyer cannot allow the things to drift in such fashion except for his monetary gains. The fictional Perry Mason can be remembered in this context.

To get a definate answer I am sure you would need to ask a lawyer. but I think they must have lessons in university on how to keep unattached from a case, particularly the defense lawyers of this world. I could never be a lawyer because I am an emotional person and would get attached to those cases that moved me. In short I think they have to remain unattached to do a good job.

You really think that one would ask a lawyer to see if lawyers are in it for the money? Do you think they would tell you ."yes, we are in it for money, why else"?
