Have you ever tried to put your pc on the tv rather than a monitor.

Well last night i got a pc off a friend very cheap and today me and my husband sussed it out in how to use it on our tv which is great. The time it took to work out how to make the screen bigger for the computer aswell as the words so that we could read it was ages, well the children sorted it for us in the end.

Yeah, I know. It is a quite good view though, but it can look quite bad. The monitor can look quite much better, but the PC on TV is good for media use when watching movies or videos.
It is good to have children especially for things like this, if can't use electronics so well. This is not a problem for me, because I am still young
Btw... I read your discussion about how you got your PC for cheap (90£)

Yes my friend needed some money and they did not use the pc as they had two lap tops that they use all the time so they wanted to sell it so i said i would have it and i had not thought of where i would put it so we decided to put it on the tv in the front room as that way the children could also watch movies on it of a weekend with us.My sons are great with a pc and i always go to them for help.

Yeah, it's great that children are good with PC, but I think that Macs are much more user friendly and easier to use. Have you ever thought of getting a Mac? Of course it costs a little bit more than what most casual PCs do, but they sure are worth it
Maybe a Mac Mini....
Mac Mini is the best Mac for "new users" or "newbies", because it's cheaper than the others. It doesn't have a keyboard, mouse or screen included though

I know there's a way you can do that, but to me it just seems like alot of trouble, I'd rather just sit here at my computer desk. Its good that you figured it out tho, I guess you can look at your pictures and stuff using your tv too.

I will be getting a few pictures put on the pc as that way when our friends come round we can embarress them as we have some great photos that we can put on there from a few years ago aswell as that we have a better picture when we watch the movie from the internet.

I have not done this, but I know someone who does. He lives in a tiny one bedroom flat and has this huge screen TV which his computer is hooked up to. He also has a massive surround sound stereo system attached to all of this as well.
He is a single man who loves to watch movies and listens to music a lot by himself. I went around there once and it was really bizarre seeing his email account open on this massive screen which took up the whole wall of his lounge room.
He is always getting complaints from his neighbours over him having the sound up too high.

My husband has been doing his facebook on it all night as he wanted to sort something out on his account so i am on the normal pc and i am using that rather than my laptop tonight as i am charging that up for tomorrow.I think it is great as now we can either do things on the lap tops or the pcs and if one breaks down there will always be another to use.It saved us from using another monitor by using the tv and my children are really happy.

I have never tried this, but I have heard about it. It is good you found a use for the pc you bought off your friend. It always seems to be the same, if you need some technological help, just ask your kids!

Two of our tv's are also used for our computers. Im now using my 42" for MY pc and hubby is using the 57" for his pc. Its great but when you go back to normal pc monitor, it looks so tiny that you're not wanting to use it anymore lol.
Im sure you'll enjoy it. You can also switch from tv to pc very fast. I love it!!

I have been flicking from pc to tv all night aswell as doing online work on the normal pc with the monitor. It took ages to sort out the words on the tv screen as the pc was only set to a monitor when we got it and i had to ask my son how todo it.I think that the movies are great on the tv that you can watch on the pc.

Hey, that sounds great. I have heard of people doing this, but I have not tried it myself. I know of a security company, in fact, that set up their monitor at a site with all the computerized cameras, etc, and projected it on a big screen television. I always leave it to my kids to fix my computer and electronic issues for me.

jugsjugs,
I just would not advocate connecting the television for a few legitimate reasons.
For one, I just feel that it is not healthy as the radiation from a television is much higher than a monitor.
The other being that it would really be a misuse where the television is to bring us away from our mundane activities on the computers. We just need to wind down and chill out when we need to.

jugsjugs,
For me, my television is connected to a cable vision satellite box to receive cable network channels.
So, I think we are different on how and what we connect.

you can use any high definition tv with your computer. which can be bigger and also support the better resolutions.
but if in any way or medium , you try to connect your old tv or crt, it will not have enough resolution to view you clear picture and definitely this is not a good idea.

I haven't tried it, but I've been wanting to experiment with my laptop and the TV. It's just that I don't use the laptop that often...not crazy about laptops. I spend most of my day on my desk top in the kitchen...near the coffee pot. AND I don't have any kids to show me how to connect the TV and laptop :}.

I found that the movies were great to watch on the tv as you can see them alot more clearly aswell as we can all sit and watch them.I do think that having sons that are always on their pcs are very helpful when there is a problem that i can not solve for myself.

I've never tried putting my laptop or computer onto my television, however I have used my monitor as a television. It's pretty cool that modern monitors often come with a HMDI or alternative port, which allows you to use it as a television. I haven't checked to see if I can do it the way you've suggested, possibly can but it would be way too big.

Yes it's quite nice to hook the computer to the tv. I use a laptop but I do connect it to my tv some times. It's great for watchig movies that I store on my laptop. Somedays I also hook it up when I play games. It's so different when the screen is expanded so much. So much more details can be seen compared to having it on the laptop screen.

We have never hooked up our PC on a television in our house, but Tom did help one of his friends to do a setup like this at his house because of the fact that he didn't have a place to set up a traditional work area. I personally am not fond of it, but Jon thinks that it is one of the greatest things to ever happen to him. I prefer to keep my stuff smaller, but I guess there are a lot of people that like to see things on a huge screen.

I've never personally done this, but a friend of ours only runs their desktop computer in this way. It is actually quite odd to me because I am used to seeing things on a 20 inch screen as opposed to being able to view them on the 40+ inch plasma screen television that he has. I know on his computer there is a computer in on the television where he can plug his computer in and it works like a dream. His computer is a few years old.

I have never tried this, but I think, that I haven't so much need from this, because I am absolutely satisfied with my 19 inch monitor. It is CRT and It has great picture. It is big enough to let me watch movies and tv shows from long distance.
