Best temperature for a server room

Hi mylotters! At work we decided to install a webserver and I'm the one who's going to keep it running. I want to install it in my work area but I have a few concerns about what's the best temperature for the server to work properly. I've been reading a lot and it seems like the best temperature ranges from 20°C to 23°C (or about 68°F to 73°F). I see this document that said that Google recomended a temperature of 80°F. Do you have any experience with web servers? What do you think is the best temperature for a server room? For now I'll think on where to install the server and also will take some temperature lectures to make sure the selected spot works fine for the server.

Based on what I have always understood about ICs... as long as a reasonably dry environment can be maintained, the colder the better. Clearly it might not be fiscally feasible to keep the server at zero but as long as moisture problems are held in check it shouldn't be a major problem. I think you see where I am going here. Cold shouldn't be a major concern but heat defiantly is something to worry about.

Yes, humidity is something to be aware off too, and it may be even difficult to control than temperature. I'm thinking on installing the server in a gabinet with enough ventilation to prevent moisture to stay inside of it and hoping to get a stable 21°C within too.

I have to improve my english skills. Where I said "gabinet" I really wanted to say "cabinet", I just did a mental translation from spanish to english and my spanish "gabinete" was translated as "gabinet" insted of "cabinet" :D

From what I've seen, 68 degrees Fahrenheit, with between 40% - 60% humidity are the ideal conditions for a server room. Maybe the information here could be of help to you: http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/itanswers/ideal-temperature-and-humidity-for-server-room-not-data-centre/

Hi cbjones! Thanks for that link! Basically it says what I've read before, the ideal temperature is around 68ºF but It also mentions something I wasn't really aware of and it's that is more important to have a low temperature on the front of the server (where the air intake is located) than at the back. I'll plan my install keeping that on mind. Thanks a lot!
