Issues With Illegal Immigration

I have noticed that illegal immigration is starting back up. Yesterday there was two discussion about the same AZ bill, one for it and one against it. I have endeavored to try to find none governmental solutions to problem we face. To me it does not take much intellectual prowess to say, "Let the government handle it." That is what has bothered me this whole time since the last immigration debate blow up. Not trying to point any fingers I was the was one of the loudest opponents of McCain-Kennedy. I look back at those post the I written and wonder why I wanted more government? I was talking about building fences, that was going to cost a lot of money we did not have, and putting the army in charge of border patrol, which in any other topic I would be saying that sounds like 1984. So tomorrow I am wanting to write a discussion around the concept that the problems with immigration are created because of government involvement not because of the lack of government. What I need is for everybody who care about this topic to respond to this discussion an issue you would like for me to address. It can be like why can't they just come into the country legally or they are taking jobs away from American. Like I said tomorrow I will try to answer your issues with illegal immigration.

Cool...here is my issue I would like addressed...how in some places illegals can get government social programs. They are not citizens of this country....they should not get social program benefits.

I live in California and am familiar with most of the west and I think these are talking points that are not based in fact. No citizenship no benefits of any kind. What they can get is emergency room medical care because most hospitals will not refuse anyone, at least in California. Even with a green card you cannot get SSI, medicare, general assistance, food stamps, and the problem with most of the folks that are here illegaly they don't even have a green card. And yes they pay taxes on every thing they buy and use just like you and I do so they really are paying taxes. Many of them don't make enough to pay Federal income tax or at least enough that really matters. I have helped several tradesmen get their citizenship because they were here illegally and I convinced them that it was in their best interest. They were way underpayed as long as they were illegals and had no rights when something went wrong or if they got hurt.

Our government continues to try to deal with this problem by focusing on those who have entered the country illegally. They come here to work so they can support their families. If, instead, we put our attention on the people who hire them, the problem would go away. If there are no jobs, they do not have to be deported. The ones who are here will leave on their own. The necessary action is to prosecute those who hire them.

I know you said non-governmental but really I think this is where the problems lie. I have two issues, #1 why can't they enforce the laws currently on the books, #2 why would we be giving aid to illegals? Otherwise, how do we get EVERYBODY in the community on board to help the issue.

I'm sorry I'm a bit late in responding to this but I saw your second discussion before I saw this one. I decided to respond to this one first. I know many from the right will disagree with me here but I fall on the side of "Why can't they just come here legally". I know, they can't just come here with no limits whatsoever, but I've said for a long time it shouldn't be such a hassle for someone who sincerely only wants to work and make a better life for him or herself and his or her family to do so. Obviously, those with a criminal record shouldn't be allowed to come in and those who commit crimes once they're here should be deported. Also, nobody who isn't an American citizen should be able to get government benefits such as Social Security or welfare. It seems there's a lot of conflicting information about that with some people saying they can't get benefits and others saying they can and do. I'm pretty sure in my area they aren't eligible but I could be wrong and there isn't really that much of an illegal immigrant problem up here in the northeast. Anyway, I know the immigrants, both legal and illegal, do many jobs few Americans are willing to do and from what I've seen they're very hard workers. I do think they should clamp down on the employers who hire those who are illegal to get out of paying taxes. I do realize I may not fully understand the problem that exists in other states where they're literally overrun with illegal immigrants, but I still don't agree with that bill they just passed in Arizona. Depending on the mood of the court I have a feeling it might be struck down as Unconstitutional. Annie

The other day I was thinking about the immigration problem. Illegals have to come to the United States to get work in order to make a better life for themselves and their families because their own country has done nothing for them. As long as the USA continues to do little or nothing to curtail the influx of illegal immigration, Mexico and other countries south of our border, have no reason to change. They will leach off of us as long as we let them. Do you have any thoughts on how to change the mindset of the Mexican government to make its country into a productive one? The people themselves seem eager to work and I believe they would rather work at home instead of in another country.

President Reagan and Company fixed this in the eighty's. Now we have not enforced those laws nor have the states taken any responsibility for making sure that those laws were inforced because they did not want to pay $5.00 for a tomato. The laws are in place to deal with this but no one wants to be the responsible party. I think what AZ. is proposing is about the most Un-American thing I have seen in my lifetime. Considering the last ten years that is a strong statement. The whole thing reminds me of a guy in 1938 who decided they could pick up and jail any political dissidents, then it was the homosexuals, then it was the Jews, then it was anyone who dissagreed with him or people who could not prove who they were. He only killed a few million people in the name of "national security". Maybe it scares me so much because I have dark hair and eyes and I really do not want my freedom dependent on a bunch of wanna be Bruce Willis cops. My roots in America go back so far I cannot even be sure what generation started in America. One thing for sure is, AZ won't be getting any of my tourist dollars.
