i have always wondered what people were thinking when they name their kids after the names of months (june, april, etc) i mean some sound ok and normal (june, may etc) but i knew some one named January once..
so if you named your kids after a month how come? is it the month they were born in? or were you not even thinking about how it was a month and thought it was cool?

Considering the current culture of giving children obscure names (particularly famous couples), naming them after months is not that bad regardless of how awkward it sounds. At the very least you know where it came from and how to pronounce it ;)
I know kids named after days of the week, furniture and animals. As examples:
A former colleague gave the day a twist with Tuesdee
Mate from the states as a brother-in-law called Radi (middle name ator)
And finally A lass named her first child Squirrel and her second Weezle
I suspect the future holds a lot of business for the deed poll departments for name changes ;)

I haven't named my kids after months because, well, they'd sound REALLY funny since my kids are boys. But, I've always liked the name 'April', not because I was born in April but because I think it's a pretty name.
My sister had a roommate while she was in a nursing home named Australia. Now, THAT'S odd! I also had neighbors with the last name of 'May' and also neighbors with the name 'January'. I think that sounds almost as strange as if these were their first names.
I guess it just sounds strange because we associate these words with months and not people.

It might not be as bad if 'May' was spelled 'Mai' or 'Mae' or 'June' spelled 'Joon' or something like that. Still, the only "month" name I've ever liked was April. That may be because I associate the month April with Spring and flowers and really nice weather. I dunno.
I never thought of naming a girl after a month, even though I always did want a daughter. I had several names picked out for my babies before they were born but didn't name them until I saw them. Some names just don't "fit", you know?

It is normal in our custom to name a child after a month (in the Hindu calendar) but of course, there are certain months which are not used. One month in the calendar also means 'bottom' in our language..so obviously no one would name their child that. Names of the signs are also common. I think according to our culture, the child should NOT be named the same as the month or star they are born into...but I don not think it is followed strictly...in fact, I find that it is more common to find the children with names of the months and stars they are born in.
Personally, I don't think it's cool...and wouldn't (and haven't) named my kids after months or stars.

Hey moonlit! I kind of agree with you, but I also like some of
the names of the months too! Like April, May, June, well you
get my drift! But, there are some parent I think
that really don't think when they give their children certain
names and that does bother me alot! I'm not talking months of
the year! There are alot of other names that can be alot worse
and do alot more damage! i, personally hate my own name, but
it didn't damage me persae! If being named after a month was
as bad as it could get I don't thing a child would have to
worry too much!lol

Good Morningg dear Moonlitmagikchild , pretty nie discussion , well i cann say that i have yet not heard of a person that is called January , but i cann tell you that if you ever come to visit Roumania , and especially its capital Bucharest , you will be pretty amaized when you hear that there are people there who they have names of towns , and some of those peoplei know in person , i knwo two gipsy girls ( off course both sisters ) that are named after two big countrys , one from europĂȘ and one from Central America , and yes its true theire names are FRANCE and ARGENTINA !!! Please believe me that i am not lying , when i heard that myself i was soo shocked at first i could believe it , i believed that those girls are trying to pull me a prank untill they showed me theire ID's , and believe me these girls are pretty upset with theire parents , hence alot of people at school made fun of them ,and they told me that all that they want its to turn faster eighteen years old so they could go to the City Hall and demand for a name change. And there are not the only childs with "Funny Names" , i also knwo some boys that are called Semafor ( wich mean Green Light lowl ) or Printu ( wich means Prince ) and there are alot of manny unhappy childs with theire names , since alot of them are the main joke of the school.
Have a nice day dear Moonlitmagikchild

A friend of mine named her daughter January Rose, and everyone calls her Jan. I also knew a man named August, and I have a couple of friends named April.

I have a friend that was born in the evening but her mom called her Dawn. The midwife said that was a silly idea. Funnily enough that friend's mom is called June. My grandmother was called May and her birthday was in May. May is not so good as a middle name: my aunt is called Iris May. At school the kids teased "Iris may or Iris may not". The normal names are April, May and June. I think naming a child January is taking things too far and a bit of a silly name.

Hi, moonlitmagikchild. I have always wondered the same thing too. I know a few females that have the name of April. My uncle's first name is June. I heard of a woman named May. She killed her daughter during an argument. And I have heard of a girl that was named September. I don't know why parents name their children after a month. I know that I could not do this. The names are too common. I need a name that is very unique for my children.

My Mums middle name was May and she never did know the reason for it as her birthday was August!
I think though I would rather have months than the latest in thing naming your baby after places or the town/country where the baby was concieved! x

I think it's cool. I know someone named april and she's so cute. I don't know what's connection about her being cute but her name really suits her. I'm planning on naming my first daughter january. I think it also sounds cool.

My kids have normal names....but the trend lately is returning to the older names. Yesterday I saw a couple I hadn't seen in a while and they had twins that were only 14 months old....Herman and Matilida.....okay....guess it's nice sometimes to see the old names back...however think before you name.

I remember my mum telling me she went to school with girls from the same family who were called March, April,May and June - which I suppose, all work as girls names. Never known any boys named after months tho' Augustus would probably be closest (never met one) We unintentionally gave our sons names of saints - we just liked the names

Some months make cute names. My god-grandmother's middle name I June, because she was born in June (in fact, her birthday's the day after mine).
I think January, Feburary, October and December make for interesting names- if I were to name my kid after a month I'd hope for them to be born in one of those, lol.

I think it's so overused. I know real people who were named January, April, May, June, and December...and some who were born in July and named Julie. I would not name my children after the months. It's crazy, the first time a stranger meets you and you tell him your name, immediately, he knows your birth month.
