Nowadays, technology even on mobile phones are crazy that it is capable of doing several things in one unit! You can listen to your favorite music, watch the movies you love, have your pictures taken, connect to the internet, browse and chat with friends, and so much more. These companies would be as competent to one another as possible with their different marketing strategies, announcing new mobile phones packed with new features and being released in the market almost every month. Are you one of the people who's fond of changing mobile phones every single time a new one comes out in the market?

Hello npadecio. I don't think that I am the kind of people who follow thefashion of keeping changing my cell phones because of the new modals unless it is totally free. I don't usually change my cell phone unless it is poor in receiving signals or some other defects that affect the normal daily use of it. Otherwise I keep using the same one. Have a good day, friend.

I don't change phones that often. It actually takes me years before I change mobile phones. I remember my very first phone lasted five years, the second three (and I'm still using it), and my third phone is about a year old now. I've been a cellphone user since 1999, so imagine the phone model I've been using for five years. My bestfriend threatened to flush my phone down the toilet if I didn't replace it because it was already obsolete. So, to answer your question, no I don't change mobile phones often.

LOL, your bestfriend was funny and hilarious of threatening you to flush your phone. But seriously, even the phone is obsolete, yet you find it still functional and can serve you well for your purpose, then there's no need to change one. Thanks for answering, anne25penn.

it will be so stupid of me to purchase new phone's everytime .it's a waste of money, every time there will be new phones coming in the market but it does not mean to purchase every time, just buy one that suits u and all u r need.

Yeah, it's really a waste of money if you're justing new phones because it's 'new'. I agree to that, buy the phone that best fits your needs and wants and be happy with it.

I haven't changed my phone in 4 years, and when I bought my new phone, I bought one exactly like I had before...a basic flip phone. I never use anything but the call feature on my phone. I'm not even sure what features it all has, but I do know I can't take photos/videos with it...and I don't want to. I also don't text, nor do I want to. I don't access the internet, nor do I want to with my phone. I just like a plain old phone.

Wow, you don't text at all? So if someone texted you, you'd just reply by calling that person? I can see that you don't mind spending by calling people but instead, you're after the faster operation and instantaneous communication. That's the most important reason why we have cellphones--to be able to call anywhere. Thank you, hofferp. =)

Every now and then there are new phone available in the market with new features that every one would like to get the chance to enjoy it. But me I am person who could not afford that much. So I dont have that luxury to keep on changing from one phone to another. For 10 years that I've been using mobile phone, I've only change it once. My very first mobile phone was samsung unit and it took 8 years that I've been using that phone. I really like that phone, just love it so much. Since it was busted and could no longer function the same. I was forced to change it. But its still the same brand with different model because that unit is no longer available in the market.

Hey ada8may21. That's quite long for a mobile phone to function right. I never had a mobile phone that lasted for 4 years and you just made twice of it, amazing. You must be very good at taking care of your stuff, I tend to be clumsy at times that's my they don't last that long. LOL.

I am also clumsy and even my son will keep on throwing that phone but its pretty amazing because it survived for that long. I even drop it in the pool that its still function normally. Maybe because the manufacturer of samsung phone made it durable to last for that long.

As much as I would like to I couldn't afford it. Even then my mobile phones just turned antique on me. If it won't be damaged I wouldn't change into a new one. I find it expensive, unnecessary, and tiring to change the contacts every now and then. It's a waste of money because after you have a new one 2 weeks after there would be a new model. So your phone will never be new.

That's a good one, your new mobile phone will not be new for just a couple of weeks due the vast technology and aggressive markets globally. True, mobile phones nowadays are so expensive that sometimes, you just feel that it's not worth the buck and just overrated. Thanks.

Not usually no. We wait for our contract to run out. That is usually 2 years. Then we update with the new free phone available with the contract renewal.

A very practical way to change phones every 2 years, it really pays for what its worth and purpose. Simply enjoying the mobile phone and will just wait for the next free phone after contract expires. Thanks, ersmommy.

Nope, not really, till now i've just changed only 2 phones. The first phone i got was my Dad's Nokia 3315, then another Nokia 1108(again used by my Dad). And after using these phones for 4 years, i finally got Nokia N73 in 2008 and i'm still using it as my primary phone. And i must say,its been more than 2 years, and the phone is in really great condition and it still fulfill my basic requirements like music, gaming, web and doc viewer and its got a great camera too. It just lack one thing and that is Wi-Fi. If this phone had the Wi-Fi, then it would be a perfect phone for me. But now i'm considering to buy a new phone preferably a Windows phone.Might get a new phone after my final exams(In June). Happy mylotting!!!!!!!!

Hi harpreet! Yeah, some of us (including me) are looking for these features like Wi-Fi, good quality music, radio, games, camera and basic word and spreadsheets as a multi-purpose handy gadget. Windows based are good because it has a lot of softwares that can be installed to the handset to put into good use. Well, do great on your exams and happy shopping for your future phone.

Not as often as I would like. I use to change phones often, but lately I realized that it is money down the drain when I have a perfectly good one still working. So now, I wait for my phone to conk out. I make sure that I make the most out of it. I use the music player, camera, web browsing and calendar function all the time just so I will be satisfied that I got the most bang for my buck.

A very practical way of using a mobile phone. I also believe that it won't last very, very long and at some point, with or without any reasons, it will just break down. At least you've maximized the way we can use mobile phones today. Thank you.

I'm not that type of person. I get a new phone, maybe once a year if it turns out I actually need one. For me to need one, the fuction of the phone has to go down quite a lot. I have to get frustrated when doing simple tasks. I don't requitre a fancy phone, but usually if I want a touch screen, I usually get the bells and whiseles that come with it. Like "real" web browsing and what not. I don't have enough money for a data plan to pay each month for the web. But, for the limited web I normally use, The little is more than enough. I can check out weather alerts and view the weather. That's all the more I browse the web for on my phone. If I want to perform a more complex fuctions, I have a lap top with portable wireless internet that is just as easy to use.

Yes, these features are very handy, nowadays, free Wi-Fi access is just about everywhere. You can then use this in a very good purpose, let's say looking for a good restaurant nearby with good reviews, check your emails, weather forecast, news, etc. for free and using a mobile phone that's so handy. Good points you got here, thanks!

Not me. As you have aptly put it, in this modern century, technology has advanced at such a crazy pace that it seems there are always new products in the market every single day. There are so many brands and makes of mobile phones, it's really hard to keep track. I have been holding on to my present mobile phone for almost 4 years now. It still functions well, and the sound is still great. Not even the feature-rich iPhone can make me switch to it.

Wow! For 4 years and your mobile phone still works? You're good at taking care of your phone. But I just noticed that the new mobile phones are packed with so much features for us to enjoy and maximized, at least. Comparing the durability of new ones can never match the mobile phones when it was released during the time of gsm. Like, I had a Nokia 6110 back then, it fell terribly on our stairs (about 10 steps) but it only got some minor scratches. I was thinking that I was lucky fell again but this time, I was running on a rough flooring of the basketball court. It got major scratches but still, the unit worked just fine, even the LCD wasn't affected at all. Thanks, myzire!

Yes, technology is advancing and changing too quickly these days, but not me,lol. I don't change mobile phones every time a new one comes out in the market. Actually, my phones are already out of date, lol. I am thinking of buying a new one though, just because my phones are messing up already, but not a high-end one. happy mylotting!

That's a practical way of just getting a new phone if the current is malfunctioning already. For as long as it still usable and does serve its purpose, you're not getting a new one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Good question! I've replaced a mobile phone three times:1) when I dropped it at a concert 2)when I dropped it for something like the 200th time, and it failed to turn back on and I change my mobile phone this year, because his become old, besides, I liked his other. Good day!!

Replacing your phone for just the 3rd time is very reasonable, besides, the first one fell and the second unit fell numerous times that it finally broke down. I think I've replaced my phone several times already since 1998 just to upgrade to new models that came out. Now, I would only replace my phone if it's needs to retire already or it was lost/stolen only. I'd save up the money to something else like buying a lens for a camera--a very good investment don't you think? Thanks, Petranka.

I used to change phones every 2 years or so. And I didn't always change to new & latest models. Reason why cell phone companies give a discount on a cell phone is because they get you into 2 year contract. It takes them about 16 to 18 month to get their money back for the discount on their phones. From what I understand, between $10 - $25 of your monthly bill goes to paying for the discount they gave you. Issue I had with that is after 2 years, they don't give you a discount on your bill. You're still paying $10 - $25/month extra when your phone is already paid for, which means it's pure profit for them. Let's say Nokia company charges AT&T $150 for a certain model phone. T-mobile will turn around & gives you the phone for free but you have to sign a 2 year contract. Let's say you pick $39.99 plan. Actually, they can charge $29.99 & still turn up a profit. But they set up the plans so that $29.99 plan, they'll charge $39.99. After 15 month, you've already paid $150 extra which means they've made up the money they lost with giving you the phone. Basic idea is called "back door money". That's how it was explained to me by my friend who used to work for district corporate office in one of the carriers. That being said, I used to think if I'm paying for the phone, might as well get a new phone out of it. I'm not talking about phones that were 100's of dollars. Ones that were free or around $20. One of the things surprised me recently was that T-Mobile came out with new plans. If you buy the phone out right, paying "retail suggested price", then you can pick a monthly plan that's $10 cheaper per month. If you want the same phone but wanna pay less, you can sign 2 year contract & pay less for the phone, but your monthly bill will go up by $10. They are called "Even More" plan & "Even More Plus" plan. http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/Cell-Phone-Plans-Overview.aspx?WT.z_HP=shop_plans_DL. Now I'm on their unlimited plan & I'm paying around $80/month. That's including taxes & fees. That plan includes everything unlimited, talk, text & data. It's a non-smart phone plan so it's little cheaper. I don't think I'll be changing my phone anytime soon.

Hi sk66rc! Really? Thanks for this information. I did have a personal line packaged with a phone with a lock-in period of 2 years. As I just realized now, you'll be paying more or at least the same thing. They really earn from it and I guess, that's how their strategy works. So I did cut the line already and sticked with prepaid with a separate phone instead. Now, my company provided a cool phone for me with a postpaid plan bundled, all expense paid. LOL. Anyhow, Thanks for this info, I'm sure many mylotters now be aware of this.

Yes, I do. I am a self confessed gadget freak. I like changing mobile phones once in a while. I have got my very first mobile phone when I was in 6th grade. My family and relatives surprised me with a JRC mobile phone. after JRC, i bought a bosch phone then followed by a series of nokia series like nokia 5510, 3210, 6150, 6210, 6510, 7650, 7710, 8250, 6610, n70, n82, 5530 xpressmusic, e63 and other brands like sony ericsson p800, p990, motorola v3x, samsung, lg cookie, etc... i am currently using 4 mobile phones- apple iphone 2g, ruby red nokia e63, nokia n81 8g and a basic samsung phone. :) you know, it feels good whenever i have a new gadget... it helps me to forget my uncertainties in some way.

What can I say...WOW! You've got plenty of it, are they still with you? You can actually put up an online shop or something for these items. I used to have some of those phones you mentioned, but right now, I'm using a basic Nokia phone, Communicator and E71 which two of those came from my company. You're just amazing. I was like that before, somehow, it felt great, at least for myself. Take care of your gadgets and stay happy with it.

That's good, at least your spending the money on other things, or better yet, save it instead. Maybe the lifespan of a phone would last at least 2 years, depending on how you take care of it and I can see that you're taking good care of your stuff. Keep it up!

for me,it's not quite practical if you change phones regularly.as if you've been addicted to it.i usually change my phone after 2 years or more depending on the functions of the phone.because the more it falls of the ground, the more it will not function well.i have niece that's so hyperactive that sometimes she throws anything she sees.sometimes, for me it also depends on what are the features of the phone and how much are you willing to spend on that.i'm not the type of person who is after the new products, because for sure its too expensive.as of now,i've been doing just online money, that's not big enough to buy new cellphone.when i got my savings maybe i'll buy new one and sell my old phone.
