what's your OS? You should try defragmenting your drive. It helps a lot for badly fragmented disks. makes HD reading quicker. You should give this a try: http://www.mydefrag.com/ I run it every weekend on my work machine and my home PCs, keeps them in tip top shape.

try this to check your hardisk for problem at command prompt "chkdsk /f" and then restart your computer... You can check event viewer for windows problem...

oh,the laptop is always lagging, maybe you try to delete some torrents on you harddisks, and try to kill the virus using your antivirus,at the same time do some defrag with your computer etc,and press ctr+alt+del to restart it again, that's all, hope you will be better

Check the cpu and memory usage of your pc. If there is something like CPU usage high on some basic stuff that you know that works smooth and doesn't ask for high cpu usage then suspect a virus or some program with bad code or not 100% compatible with your OS. If you just see high memory used better to see if there are memory leaks from some program. If you are using mozilla firefox+avg remember that avg toolbar should be off since last version of firefox hates it and makes your cpu go to 100ÂșC and make all the other stuff lag. Also remember that win vista asks for 10gb free to work at 100% with no lag. Also remember that if is vista is asks for a bit more(don't know how much exactly since never searched that but I know that is higher then 10gb, xp used 1gb, vista 10gb, is all i know). Also, you said you're using utorrent, check if you're not downloading at high speeds from lots of torrents, that things usually make your net go down since you're using too band. Also, you're talking about lag, is pc lag or net lag? You don't specify it... I said some examples of stuff possible to be causing it but there are other possibilities that can cause it, try to defrag your Hard Disk, helps to keep the pc a bit faster.
