Many people are having two or three different professions before they retire. Besides what you are currently doing as a profession, what other career choice would be interesting or exciting to get into? Do you think you will make a decision to enter that profession? What are you involved in at the present time? Share your thoughts.

I'd like to have been a Childrens TV presenter... dressing up, playing with paint and glue, reading stories and talking in silly voices ... I'd have been in my element. Sadly I'd need to travel back at least 30years to get that one off the ground - tho' of course, that doesn't stop me doing all the above

When i said it doesn't stop me now, I didnt mean that I could still do the job, just that I tend to behave that way in normal everyday life
I have worked in schools on a casual basis for several years - tho' due to other commitments I haven't been able to go for about 8 months. I mainly work with 4-7 year olds ... they're a good audience. I've found that some of the elderly people I work with respond well to a more "fun" approach too.

...Heyyyy, Sorry to give you the impression that I didn't understand you, I did.
It seems as though you have the venue you need to practice your creativity already. Children love newness, and things that make them laugh, as I am sure you have experienced. I worked with little ones for a while and it was great fun. Take care, keep being wild and crazy.

...Hi Wizzywig, Do you remember Howdy Dowdy, if I am spelling it correctly. Buffalo Bob, was not so young. I don't know that you have to give up on doing what you dreamed of. Doing it as a clown would be fun. Why not contact a tv station that does that and see if they have anything available as an apprentice with a kid's show? I would. As you say it doesn't stop you now. As I am writing, I am thinking of something else. Why not do theme birthday parties for kids. Your own business. If you need ideas, I could give you a few. fun, fun fun. "o) Think about it. Take care, thanks for your response.

...Hi yugasini, You are funny. If you look through my words, you will always find some form of praise. I seldom say something that is derogatory when someone responds in my discussions. I like to hear what people have to say and I usually try to encourage them when I reply. Sorry that I was not more explicit. Thanks again for stopping by.

...Hi there yugasini, Hope you are well. Always nice to hear from you. You make some very good and interesting points. Sometimes it's the circumstances that dictate what we choose to do as a career, at any given time in our lives. Very good of you to stop by and share your story with us. Thanks and take good care.

....Hi Naisan, Welcome to the good old ranch, it's a great place to hang out. Enjoy.
I think photography is a great avenue to pursue. Pictures are lovely, color, even black and white, thinking of Ansell Adams' magnificent pictures, if I have the name correct. Get yourself, if you don't already have one, a decent, inexpensive camera, go out and find interesting shots. Make a portfolio. Then see if you can find a business which might need a part-time photographer, a small newspaper, just for the experience. You never know how it might turn out. Good luck with your interest. Take care. Thanks for your reply.

I was a laundry and dry cleaning manager for nearly 40 years but the only career I would like to pursue now is to be a housemaid

...Hi maidangela, That was a long and hopefully enjoyable career. To stay on a job that long is truly an admirable feat. You seem to be a very committed person, when you chose to do something, you make up your mind to do it well. Your previous employer was evidently quite satisfied with your work. Thanks so very much for sharing and take care.

...Hi tugeraunt, Nice to hear from you. If you could find a hobby that was very interesting and fun for you to do, that could possibly make up for the boredom at your job. Photography come to mind, you don't need an expensive camera tp get some great shots. You write well on this site, try your hand at writing. Start out with very short stories. I will send you a link, so you can, if you are interested, read some of my work. You can make a few pennies as you do it, as well. Be in touch. Thanks for stopping by.

If I had chance to pursue another profession, I would like to try fine arts.
Or tourism, but sad to say that the latter needs height.I dont qualify for that.
It would be nice talking and meeting people from different walk of life and from different part of the globe. It would be fun going to other places.I wish I could marry a tall guy so that my children would be tall, too

...Hi mitchann, My, that is admirable. Fine art is very interesting and quite beautiful. I am an artist of sorts, can't say that I qualify for the fine arts category, but I am artistic and have had a few art shows and sales of my work.
I write as well. Please visit www.authspot.com/writers/quiet+voice.8137 if you have time.
Why would you not be able to enter tourism, is there a height requirement? If you can't do the tour guiding, how about working at a travel agency. You could probably go for free to a lot of places. Thanks for your response, take care.

A career or profession which one likes to pursue depends quite a lot on one's likings.

...Hi sukumar, A long time ago, I asked someone whom I respected what I should study, I was just out of high school. He told me the same thing, or asked me, what would I like to study. It is true, you will probably do a good job and enjoy the work, if you like what you are doing. So you have given us sage wisdom. "o) Thanks so much for your response. Take care.

I've spent long periods as both Retailer and IT Tech, with the latter being my dominant theme. As alternatives (and still not out of the question) i'd look at gardening, acting/comedy.
In time things may setup to fulfill those possibilities :)

...Hi there Matthammer, Apologies for taking so long to answer your response.
You should be in very high demand with your IT ability, especially nowadays.
You must be comfortable in front of people, to want to do acting or comedy. I admire anyone who can act, and I love a good comedienne. Good luck, follow through with your
ambitions. Sounds like a lot of fun if you do, Take care, thanks for stopping by.

If given the choice I want to be in a writing profession but right now I am not losing any hope that one day I can still pursue this long cherished dream of mine. I always wanted to become a writer, right now I am wrapping one book for publication hope I can find a publishing company to accept this book of mine.

...Hi jlamela, I think you are already a writer, you are doing it, keep it up. Do not be discouraged with your pursuit. Good luck with your book.
I would go so far as to write at least three well know authors and some lesser known ones. Flatter them and ask what hints they have for a budding author. John Grisham, Stephen King, Judith Krantz. See what you can obtain in the way of help.
You may be surprised. Thanks for your response, take good care.

.....Hi there macdingolinger, That sounds like a great thing to pursue. Especially now, with all the health issues having to do with food choices. Also the physical
things that we should be doing to maintain a healthy body. You would be well received. Your profession right now is a noble one, thank you for doing what you chose to do with your life thus far. Good luck in the future. Thanks and take care.

I would love to pursue a career on computer graphics. I'm a cgi enthusiast and i'm overly curious about how they do those animations like what pixar does.

...Hi frontvisions, Nice to hear from you. I too am fascinated with animated art and graphics. I think it is such great work, how it is done would be quite interesting to know and learn.
I was looking into buying pixar stock some time ago, it is probably out of mny range now "o). Order some books about the subject, or research on the internet and print the information out. Follow through on such a fun and interesting subject.
Good luck to you. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

hi artistry. Currently i am a quantity surveyor. I love to do photography but i don't have any skills. But i do have interest in photography. I intend to buy DSLR camera since i plan to build up my skill. I don't think it would make me to jump into the profession as a photographer but it might be just for fun.

....Hi cthawa, Your profession sounds very interesting. I happen to think photography is such a great thing to be involved in, whether as a hobby or a profession. It is, as you say a fun thing to do, and finding subjects would be very much an adventure. Good luck with skill building, seeing what would make a great shot is part of the process I guess. I am an artist and I admire the eye of the photographer. Take your time. Thanks for stopping by.

Since history has always been an important topic to me(sometimes a snooze to others) I plan on majoring at a university or college in that field. I plan to be a historian; hopefully at the Smithsonian in D.C. Or otherwise I could back up on any of the two minors I have chosen. either ornithology or instrumental music. But that is a choice for another day.

..Hi Toshiro, Welcome to the ranch, it's a great place to hang out. Thanks for making me one of your first discussion responses. My sister loves history, she reads books all the time about 16th century stuff and can discuss things that happened for hours at a time, fascinating. That sounds very interesting, if you are not in Washington, D. C. already, you will love it. I spent 6 months on assignment there and could not get enough of the city. Thanks for a new word about the birds. "o). Thanks for your response, take care.
