Medicine cost in Philippines

India
April 24, 2010 4:42am CST
Hello friends, today I was talking to a friend in Davao, he is ill, having high diabetics and BP, I could learn about cost of essential drugs required for these two common ailments. A peso is almost same as an Indian rupee. On comparison I found the cost of medicines to be about four times here. He said doctors and hospitals too charge much. Why it is so? My friends from Davao and other parts of Philippines can tell better. What about other countries, is life saving drugs and health services too costly? I am thinking of sending medicines to him. Please share your views. Happy posting, cheers Prof

it is really very sad to note that the medicines in the Philippines cost a lot. If one has no money to buy all these medicines, then they will just suffer. Too bad . ..

Hi, Prof. It's always a problem, the high and rising health care costs, pharmaceutical prices, examination fees and hospital charges, etc. Take a common cold for example, some doctors charged hundreds of yuan, let alone some serious diseases. So we say, have nothing but money, have anything but illness.

yes, you said it and some agrees with you. the price of medicines in the philippines is really a bit higher. though there is already a law that makes some of those medicines cost lower, the medical fees of the hospitals and the professional fees remain at their highest cost.

That's true. The medicines here is very expensive. Even the fees that they charge are too expensive. The fact that life is on the line doesn't mean they have to charge very high fees for their services.

I don't also know why medicines here in the Philippines are very costly- maybe it's because of high taxes. Even consulting a doctor costs 10-12dollars and the medicines are really costly. That's why a lot of us can't afford it.

Well our government is trying to lower its prices as much as they can. The sad thing is, the evil and the good officials collide that's why only a part of it are succeeding.

hi professor indeed here in the US needed medications are really pretty expensive but there are alot of programs that cut way back on what you have to spend for medicines. I am a senior citzen on Social Security and thus get a tremendous break on my necessary medicines. Others do not fare as well and pay really high prices.Hospital care is high also so one must have a very good health insurance to cover those costs. I have Secure Horizons insurance.

It is true that the cost of medicines here in the Philippines is very expensive, if India can produce cheap medicine why does our country can't? Because of the tax, the manufacturer pass the burden to the consumers that affect many individual specially the less fortunate people who can't afford to buy medicine for their illnesses.
