I only went to buy some vegetables but they were having a sale on yogurt--Yoplait, which I usually don't buy because of the price. A lady was trying to get some on the top shelf way at the back--wouldn't you know it, our favorite flavor (lime) was out of our reach! I asked a tall man going by to help us and he thought it looked pretty good so as well as getting ours he got some himself!
So then the lady and I got to talking about yogurt and stuff and Fiber One yogurt was also on sale and she gave me a coupon for my Yoplait and one for the Fiber One, too! The Fiber One ended up costing me a dollar for the 4 pack and my Yoplait $.30 each! It was so nice of her to do that for me.
Do you ever meet kind people in the grocery? I seem to run across a lot of them!

What I usually do is leave the coupon on the product in the store if I don't use the product.

I down load many coupons from MyPoints, as I get points when they are used. I left one coupon when I accidentally downloaded one that I do not use. I like to have a choice, and I like to help others.

I do that, too! The stores I shop at also give you coupons at the checkout and I leave those on the self-scan checkouts so somebody can save some money. It's good to pass on things people can use.

Wow, you had one great day. It is not all the time that we're lucky to have nice people around us. If only everybody will have a good deed done for someone or for everyone everyday, it would be a much better place to live in.

I agree. We should try to do something even if it's only to post an inspirational saying, complementing someone or helping them as that man did in the grocery. I helped a woman last week when she couldn't open a carton in the store, perhaps this was my favor coming back.

It seems that the fact that we all need to buy groceries brings out the best in a lot of us. It is a community thing. I even like my checkers and sackers. They are super nice as well. At our Dillons (Kroger) store the manager tried to help me, because my billfold always set off the electronic alarms. It is nice to know them by name. The regular grocery store may be one of my favorite places to be.

Not a lot of them know me by name, but many do know me by face. I used to do product demos there once or twice a month. I was chosen to do it every week all one summer. I also had to be in to the pharmacy a lot for my last job and one of the clerks moved out of the pharmacy because her dad had health problems. I can tell you her "story" but not her name, and she can probably do the same about me. So when I see her, I ask about her dad.

I don't know anyone in the store by name, I like my anonymity. But I thank everyone who serves me there, especially the baggers. I don't hear them getting a lot of thank-yous but what they do is so helpful!

I am also on the short side, and I have to recruit taller people to get things for me. I try to do the home shopping with the roomie who is taller, but I always seem to lose her right when I need something off the top shelf or off the back of the next to the top one Makes me CRAZY!

yeah, short and shy don't work well together do they?
I walked thru a cave that everyone else had to duck to get thru and all I had to do was dodge some of the lower spots I think I only had to do that because my shoes made me that fraction too tall

I used to be shy about asking for help but not anymore. I guess there are advantages to being short but I can't think of many. On the other hand, I'd hate to have to duck under doorways and such!

hi dragon54u oh indeed I have meet several people like that in my favorite grocery store, one was a negro lady who worked in the meat and seafood section. I was looking for large shrimp as I wanted to make shrimp scampi and she went back and found a package of really big ones, then she marked it on sale. when I looked at the others that were similar they were three dollars more, I just hoped that she did not get into trouble for cutting the price for me. I at first thought well maybe these are outdated but no they were fresh. Also several times I tried to get an item off the top shelf but was too short to reach it, and a young woman who was a lot taller did reach it and handed it to me. so many people really are nice. Again I met one lady at thanksgiving time one year who tried to sweet talk the clerk into believing I was wrong and my cart full of groceries for thanksgiving was hers, the fact that my handbag was lying in the cart plus a lot of sugar f r ee foods had not registered on her brain. then I found out she had done this to others and they just gave up and started all over collecting their groceries. I was not about to do that, specially as she had my purse under her hand. she was going to take my purse to. luckily I grabbed it took out my billfold and showed the young clerk my bank card with my picture on it. He called the manager, and the manager took the cart and gave it to me, then he detained her and called the p olice for attempted theft of my handbag. after that I never ever left my handbag lying loose in my grocery cart, it stayed on my shoulder.

Wow, what a nutcase to try to take your cart! Good thing you had your head on straight.
I just love hearing stories about people being nice to each other. Especially when, like your clerk, they go out of their way to help you out. It's a wonderful world, isn't it? Sometimes we have to be reminded of it, though, with little things like the kindnesses of strangers.

I've been thinking of getting one of those long grippers to take with me because there often isn't a tall person around to help! I have sons over 6' that are great to shop with--only problem is, they are both in Arizona and I'm in Ohio!

I usually do find kind people there. I will share my coupons, if I will not use them before they expire and see someone buying the item.

That helps so much! This store doubled coupons that day so it really helped me. You have a good policy and helping someone in that way does more good than you know.

That was so sweet of the lady. But no, I don't come across people like that anymore because no one talks to strangers. Everyone is doing their shopping and minding their own business. And trying to talk to someone you don't know can be thought of as dangerous. We one came across a couple at the grocery store who started talking to us and my husband exchanged phone numbers with them. I was a little worried because no one just 'meets' people at the grocery store and tries to befriend them....these people had just started talking to us about our son (who was 2 at the time). I'm used to people passing casual remarks like 'Oh, you've got quite an active one there'...but nothing beyond that. Turns out these people were trying to get people to buy their Amway products. Whew!

People like that are so sneaky! But they are in the minority.
When I lived in a big city in the Southwest part of my country nobody talked to each other, they were afraid of strangers. I'm back in the state I was born now, in the Midwest, and my city is on the small side. People say hello in stores, on sidewalks. When they walk by and I'm on my porch they'll wave or say hi. I love it here. I wish you had people like that.

Hey, long time no see! How've you been?
I used to think most people were not nice but that's because my attitude kept me from seeing the good ones. Now I rarely come across someone that isn't nice!

Yeah, sometimes. The cashiers at my store and pretty nice, and people are always letting me go ahead of them in line if I only have a few items I am buying.

I let many people with just a couple items go ahead of me, it's just silly to make them wait. I see others doing that, too, and helping people when they can't reach something. It's nice to know that people still work together, despite the bad news we see every day on television.

at this age and time i know a lot of people would say it rarely happens to meet someone as nice as the people that you met today in the grocery but i know there are a lot of people who are really nice, helpful and unselfish. you are one lucky lady to meet this kind of people. this reminds me of the golden rule: "do unto others, what you want other's to do unto you" they treat you nicely for they saw that you are a nice lady as well.

I do believe that everything you do comes back to you. I helped a lady last week in the grocery. I rarely have good deeds come back the same way they were done but I guess this one was. We should all help each other and we would probably see that only 5% of the population is to be avoided, the rest are just like us.

I find that to be true, too. Just last week I helped a lady in the store. I find that good or bad, your actions eventually come back to you. I like to put away old folks' carts for them when they are done, saves them a trip to the cart corral. I hope someone will do that for me when I'm that old.
Keep spreading the sunshine!

Yes, there are still lots of good and kind people around. I often encounter people who are very helpful or they just nod or give a smile even if they don't know me.

If you would believe the media, the world is full of evil--real life doesn't reflect that. That's why I quit watching the news and just get it on the internet now. I find that 99% of the people I encounter are very nice!

I really love meeting people like that, but I don't across them that often. People like that are really rare, I believe, because some are snobs and can be selfish. :/ People like that really make my heart melt. Did you get her name and contact info or something? That'd be really nice if you end up friends :)

There are a lot of them. We just hear about the bad ones so much! I wish the news would have a policy of at least one minute of good news for every few minutes of bad.
