My parents always ask me what is it that i want to receive whenever my birthday is near. I always tell them a new toy or maybe a pair of shoes etc. Then one time my father got sick and hospitalized, meaning they cant buy a gift for me this time. When he got out of the hospital y father gave me money and said buy the kind of stuff that i want for my birthday. If your given the chance to choose between the two, would you rather have money or the gift that your parents randomly wants to give you? and why?

I'd like to get the shoes directly. You know,it's for birthday gift and it's not only a pair of shoes but the love from parents. On average days, parents can also give us some money to buy anything we want, but for birthday gift, something that is given by parents is better. Happy mylot!happy birthday!

I think that will be so lovely! i mean if you receive something that you really like from your parents. I mean most of us complains bout them receiving something that they dont like but when our parents give us something that we really like then we feel so good bout it .There are times that money cant just give just bout everything that our hearts desire. Thanks for joining and have a great day

Right now, I could really use some cash so I can save up easier for a car or DSLR. Lol. But most of the time, I really prefer getting a random gift. It's more exciting and fun. I like the feeling when you're expecting a gift and you have no idea what it is. The anticipation you feel is something priceless. Lol. Plus, when you get the present wrapped, you really get excited to unwrap it because you don't know what it is. However, getting a random gift sometimes could be a waste, especially if the gift giver doesn't know that much about you. So yea, getting a random gift is way more fun and exciting, but I guess getting some cash has its advantages, too. Because by getting cash, you're sure to get exactly what you want - minus the anticipation, though.

Hahahah who doesn't? i mean most of us needs money ;) You mean if your parents will give you money to buy something then your going to keep it and save it until you will be able to come up with the money to buy what is it that you want? ;) I like that idea but sometimes people dont have much to even save for themselves. Thanks for answering and have a great day my friend

Depends on the gift.

No, I"m not saying I want to know in advance what the gift is. Just that if I get a gift that is nothing I would want or need, I'd rather have the money. But very often, a gift, even something I never would have thought of, is exactly the right thing for me.

Depends on the gift? You want to know what will your parent or friends will give you first? then when you dont like the idea or the item that they will be buying for you, then you would rather have the money?I wonder if many of us are lucky enough to get the kind of gifts that we really want hehehe. Thanks for sharing have a great day

Unless there is something that I really, really want as a gift, I would rather have the money. I can always use the money for something. While it is nice to get a gift every now and again, there can be a lot of gifts that I might not be too that fond of. Yeah I know the thought counts and I appreciate it, but I would rather have the money than something that might not be too my tastes. So yeah, money is of great use. Even if I do not need it right at the moment, I can always save it for down the road. Besides, if I am ever short on something that I need to pay, I will be glad for that money, whether it is five dollars or ten dollars or whatever. It will be much appreciated. So in the end, I would rather have a bit of money instead of a random gift.

Theres no question bout money being important or of good use to all of us.Indeed money have lots of purpose and can help us in alot of ways too. But sometimes gifts gives us a good feeling, a feeling of we belong to these people whom gives us these gifts.Yes it might not be the right kind of gift that we want most of the times, but the fact that they worked hard for it or the thought of they remembered us is pretty much touching. Although if theres something that i really like i might just ask for money too specially if my loved ones wont be able to buy it because of medical reasons

I get your point my friend, you just dont want to be disappointed with receiving something that you dont really like . I have to admit there are times that i was given something that i dont really like, but i just cant do anything about it. But when it comes to money you will be able to choose the kind of stuff that you really like for as long as the money can afford it lol

I chose a gift, because they usually choose gift take time and energy. Receive gift make you feel more special than receiving money. If my relative gift money I tend forget about it but not gift I will remember, this stuff from this person and that give from that person. something like that...........

And i bet you want to feel how to be surprised with gifts too. I mean when we receive gifts its so good to feel. Especially when your about to open the said gift already. Now if you dont like the gift itself. Just remind yourself that this gift was given and the person who gave it to you gave you much more than just the item itself. It includes his or her love and her affection to you. Thanks for joining

Wow, a new toy? I wonder how old are you now and you still want a toy... heheh probably for the big boys. But anyway about the topic, well I can say that If I am given a privilege to decide what gift should I like, then money is the answer because I can buy what I want to buy unlike a gift, sometimes I do have and if it is just there, you can't say no to them because it was a gift. Mostly I would appreciate more if it was money because for being practical. Most gifts I got during birthdays are redundant and I seldom don't need it much but what to do, I need to keep it, else it would not be great to see someone giving you a gift that you don't like and you frown to them, really difficult right?

Yup being practical is much more being accepted nowadays. You just made me smile with your comment about the toy and how old i am already. Actually the story goes back 10 or 11 years when my father was hospitalized and he cant give me a gift. And the gift that im aiming for that time is a mountain bike.. yes you can also call it a toy for grown up boys not men yet lol . Thanks for joining and happy mylotting!

Hi setsuna, I think money is a better offer most of the time. This is because with parents we have generation gap. I dont like my papa's selection. My selection of clothes and things are considered as good amongst our friend circle. So I guess, I am a victim of tastes. My father on the other hand is like a person who doesnt understand such things. :) As to friends too, I would prefer cash. One of my friends might buy me a gift that another person may also have bought. That can be appreciated if it is gold or silver jewelry, but not if it is same dress! Isn't it? I think friends should get together and give such gifts. That way duplicate gifts can be avoided, and better gifts can be given. Likewise, family members can also get together and give to the person some costlier gift that the person needs or desires. The only time that I would give gifts other than cash to outsiders would be when I knew that the person really wants something like that, and I could afford it. If I gave cash the person would feel obliged. So instead, I would give the object, so the person would be left guessing how much it cost me, and never really know.

You bet generation gap nowadays is so huge that what our parents see as good for us might be totally the other way around for us.Sometimes i also like the idea of money instead of anything random coming from them. At least with money it saves us from some dissappointmens when we dont like the gift that they gave us. Although we wont say we dont like the gift infront of them deep inside you want something else instead lol

I prefer a random gift because i appreciated the gift from the one I love than having money from them. I am a very sensitive and emotional person so i love gifts and i always want it during special occasions because the thoughts of them makes my heart bigger because i know what I am very important with them. But being practical, some chooses money over gifts because in money, they would go anywhere they want and they can buy anything they want.

Me too thats my sentiment most of the time. I like being surprised. Now whether i like the gift or not is not the issue. For as long as i have a present to open then im really happy already. And the fact that this person tried his or her best to give you a good gift then even if its not that special i will still appreciate it alot

Well it is the person who gives the gift should decide, but as you say, given a chance, i would opt for cash, things get multiplied, last time i got 10 watches and 7 electric irons.. rather i would purchase things i need and like.. Thanks for this post. God bless you. Cheers Happy posting. Prof

I don't like to get presents when there is a special occasion. If somebody wants to give me something he may just do it for the surprise not because I have a birthday let's say. That's why I try to explain my relatives I don't want either money or gifts for such cases

Me too, i mean practically i will go for money but sometimes there are people whom appreciate it more when they received gifts instead of monetary equivalent. Gifts have sentimental values that you can preserve over and over again. While money has limited value lol.Anyways for as long as we are all happy then everything if cool too

I think money is always better. You can buy anything with money. On the other hand if you receive gifts there remains a chance of not liking it.This always happens with me.Whenever my mother buys a dress for me, I never like it.My choice never matches with that of my parents. So I always tell them to give me money which I can use in any way I like.

Although we can indeed buy just bout anything with money we also need to consider that sometimes our parents want to give us something from their choosing. I mean most of the times parents choose something special for their kids.It might be a toy or a souvenir or a pair of shoes or just bout anything that they think you will appreciate. ;) Personally i would go for money too, but not all the time lol

I think money is always more welcome. For one, I can always buy what exactly I want and not another run-of-the-mill deodorant or face wash or even the same orange coloured dress! Secondly, if people are gifting you money, it always has to be a little substantial sum, I mean if somebody is gifting you a bodyspray or face wash then that will be your only gift but if the same person is gifting you money, then the amount has to be more than just the cost of the bodyspray or facewash…in the long term, you gain more by being gifted money. Yes, of course there’s always the surprise element in getting a gift in kind…as also there are things which you might not even be aware of until you are gifted the same.

Hiii there I will choose cash as i love to choose my gift for myself and i know better what i need right now so my friends and parents generally give me cash or shopping coupans and i make my choice and bring gift for me. Sometime i tell them what i need and if they have time they themselves go and bring gift for me.Otherwise they give me cash.

I want money than random gift because the posibility to make the money into something is more than I receive a random gift. I can save the money for future needs or something (:

what gifts do you want to receive? - giving than receiving or vise versa?
money or gift, what to choose? it depends on how much money is it or how much is the thing that i want to buy. maybe it's much more sentimental if you choose gift.cause when it's cash,it can go away easily.but a gift is a more memorable one.gifts from parents are the ones that is really worth keeping.specially when it's just one in a blue moon that you've been given a chance to receive from them. i really love gifts,i want to give more than to receive though it's much better if i've received something also!
