When Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk and trundled off to the circus..

... what do you reckon she took with her? I'm guessing at shower gel, body brush, her best hat & an RSPCA official to safeguard the welfare of all the animals. What do you think she should've/would've taken? What would YOU take? Should animals be performing in circuses?

I think she was probably a mischievous one and when she said goodbye to the circus she probably packed, the key to the lions cages, the ringmasters whip and the clown's shoes. I doubt she took them far though, unless maybe she traded them for some magic peanuts on the way from a guy called Jack who couldn't be bothered to go up a beanstalk. In turn he gave the circus stuff to a giant who always wanted to be in the circus but lacked self-confidence, enthused by his new items he gave Jack his playstation, which was handy for both. Jack was a lazy sod who wanted to loaf in front of a TV and the giant went of to join the circus, and do you know?.. .when he got there they barely even noticed, they just said "my my Nellie, haven't you grown.." The End

I can't tell you much more of the Nellie sequel storyline as its currently under production, but this traditional story has been taken over by American writers so i imagine it will be totally re-worked with little factual content and instead be packed with explosions and lots of elephants (who are of course american now) saluting the flag. There was talk of the president being played by a merekat but who knows ... Jack on the other hand is not on speaking terms with his mother as it turns out the peanuts were not only not magic, but also not peanuts, but hid dad's medication. The RSPCA are charging him with cruelty to animals after poor nellie's trunk was at attention for 12hours straight meaning she could only drink from the shower.

I dread to think what animal would have played the Prime Minister had it remained a British production..... & I dont like the idea of exploding elephants much

Hiya Wizzy, Reckon Nellie should put in her case a nice big soft hat to protect her from the Sun. Some nice shower gel natural like almond milk for her dry delicate skin and a nice soft towel to dry herself with and another soft one to lie down on too. Nice bruch with a sponge on it so she can brush or be brushed nice and gently and a portable mud bath so she can roll in it and them some nice ground with cool water where she can spray herself down and then roll in some nice dusty soil. Not forgetting a nice owner who loves her and treats here well too and so she does´nt have to walk very far a nice Van that´s regulated inside with fresh air and not too many Circus Acts so she does´nt get worn out. Animals can work in a Circus provided the owners think of their animals well being and there is a mutual trust between them and they don´t overwork them. Also mentioned above nice cool shady fields with plenty of trees in them. Really I´m not sure that Animals like Tigers and Lions should work in such conditions or be in a Zoo come to think of it. The animals if loosed out would probably think far better to have live one day in freedom than none at all. But there are People that keep Tigers and Lions and they look after them very well and they are much loved in return.

I think you've pretty much got it covered there!! I dont think there's a great deal more she could want as the person treating her well would obviously feed her.

Actually Wizzy what I meant to say was a nice brush and not a nice bruch that´s the trouble with this if you don´t spot the mistake first time around you can´t go back and edit it. Would also add to Nellies Suitcase a nice soft pink dressing gown and soft slippers too those nice soft floppy ones well of course it would have to be two pairs would´nt it? Last but not least a nice supply of cool drinking water no icy cold but just right. Think she needs anything else apart from a nice big bale of fresh straw every day to lie on and make her bed?

Hiya Wizzy, Right on they would be feeding her with all the best kinds of food they would be able to give to her. Looks like I have covered it all up to now have´nt I? Any more ideas anyone?

There are some here that would argue each way on this one. No animal should be in a situation where they are mistreated, their health is neglected and they are forced to perform out of fear. I believe some animals, just like some people, love to perform. I opt for some animals being in some circuses. But I think they need down seasons to be out in the field or where ever.

I think I tend to agree with you there Gerty - totally against ill-treatment but I guess some are happy.

Animals should only be performing in circuses if they're suitably backed by a strong union that has no corrupt links to circus management. If I were Nellie, I would be sure to pack a catering-sized tub of wrinkle cream. Elephants tend to neglect themselves when it comes to skin care and a little discipline on that front could make all the difference. I'd also pack my personally signed photograph of Dumbo for inspiration.

I had overlooked the skincare regime.... maybe I am actually an elephant... tho' I'm sure I wouldn't have forgotten.

her agent? I don't know, if they're treated decently, you could argue they are better off than in the wild. Problem is, there've been a lot of allegations of circuses not treating the animals decently. And then there's the question of whether we even have the right to do anything we want with any animal we want. idk

Yes, there are a lot of "it all depends..." to be considered
