May 2010 elections are almost here. Do you think you are voting wisely?

Election fever is at its peak and most of my friends in facebook are either campaigning for the candidate that they will vote or are doing black propagandas to the other candidates. What really bothers me is that most of them really think they are the smartest since they are voting this person or that person. I know opinions differ among all people but what really bugs me is that all of them are sure that their candidate will save our country from poverty. Well I guess they should wake up by now cause no matter who wins in the coming presidential elections, that person can't solve all the problems in our country. Whether he is the honest candidate, the talented candidate or even the rich candidate. The next president would have an enormous problem ahead of him. So no matter how good or honest the next president would be, in the next six years, the people in our country will still complain and blame him for not achieving his promises. People will still whine why they ever voted for the guy cause he committed a lot of mistakes. Even the people who campaigned for the winning president will eventually criticize that candidate after his term. That is why I rarely don't rant about any candidate in any of my social networks cause I don't want to eat my words if ever the candidate I choose wins and fails. I guess most of us Filipinos rely too much on our leaders to solve our problems. We as a nation should change our mind sets in order to solve our problems. I think the solution of our country lies within all of us Filipinos. If we strive hard enough and work hard in each of our own capacity we will eventually lift our country from poverty. If we all work for the improvement of our country as a whole, it wouldn't matter which leader will win. It wouldn't matter who would win this election cause we will become the solution. We wouldn't rely too much on our leaders anymore.

whatever these people say about the elections, surveys, etc.. these are all paid! i mean even for those who we think is soo much reliable and is a very sincere public servant, somewhere somehow there is still some smudges of being a bad politician who only wants to win and maybe get that piece of the sweet victory and savor whatever is left of this country. EVERYONE of us needs to chose whom we think is capable of going away from all these endless cycle of people trying to warn us against each other, and then we see them dine out together! what the!@#$%! Wake up Filipinos!!! we have been taken advantaged of too much already!

Very true, but we really need to vote wisely this coming election. I just hope that it would be a clean election. I am so tired of dirty politics and tactics and cheating. I just wish the best to our country and we as a nation can still have a hope if ever the leader of our country can really help stop poverty, corruption and unemployment and face more of the challenges that has been a problem in our system. I am just happy that my FB has no such thing as friends campaigning this and that candidate since most of my friends are from other countries, they are just busy with games and such. Hard working people are here, but why are we still in poverty? it is because of corruption and injustices. I just hope that this will also be resolved by the coming leaders of our country.

hi andy!! I think that's the problem with most of us. We just couldn't be contented with what we have and always asking for more. The presidents that are running offer change but they are just expecting to much and think that they should get rich because they voted for that person. The problem with it is. Always campaigning for change but we never implement change in our lives. That is why we are not growing at all.

thats why the media is doing their best to educate the people. people should be politically educated no matter how strong and great the next president would be.

Well I guess I have names already in my mind and I am just finalizing my senatorial slate with me. I would not name names in here, I think I have read that much in here already to really see what I need to know and I do not want to add anymore to the heated discussion in here. I will vote according to what my conscience dictates me and that's it. It is not based on surveys, or any discussions in here but based on what my mind and heart dictates me to choose. Hopefully that candidate of mine would win and Hope that he is the real leader we all are looking for. If he loses then I will just hope that the chosen one will do his/her job for our country.

I think it is reliable and valid, the problem with this study is the number of organizations that they asked. How may representative organization did they asked.

hi andyvil I do not know if I should respond here or not as I am not in the Phillipines but in the USA. But I just wanted to say so much of what you have said about the various candidates and the voters is a lot like its been here in the USA. And I think too that it would not have mattered too much which man had won as no matter who got in a lot of people would say he was the worst President we have ever had and so on. But of course there are plenty of issues that are different in out different cultures. You do make a lot of sense in that the people of the country as a nation in any country should not depend completely on any leader. This past year to me has seemed to have divided our country into two groups at war with each other the democrats and the republicans. kind of sad as we are all citizens of the US and should be working together.

I have my list whose to vote and I already fixed my mind with my chosen candidates because I believe their integrity and honesty and commitment for good governance. History tells us that intellect and experience do not necessarily produced magical results.I am also disappointed with people who are making black propaganda against each candidate.

Hi andy. First, I agree that we cannot put our entire lives on the hands of just one person or leader. And because leaders are also human beings, they are as prone to commit mistakes as everyone else. A leader for me, is like the captain of a ship. He directs the course, he instructs the crew, and ensures the safety of the trip and the passengers. If both passengers, and crew would not cooperate, and the captain himself does not do his job well, then a shipwreck is very much bound to happen. However, that is exactly the essence of voting. We vote for someone whom we believe can be the best captain of the ship. Even if the passengers and crew are good at what they do, if the captain himself is irresponsible and greedy, it's still no good. This scenario should not stop you from voting. Vote wisely. Not exercising your rights to vote is just as good as putting the wrong man/woman in the position.
