I am finding that I love musicals made into movies. The sound of music is a classic favorite of mine..and I am a huge fan of Phantom of the Opera...It's so imaginative and the music is awesome. I have watched it thousands of times already...and I watched Mamma Mia a few months ago and loved that one too. So what about you-do you like musical movies? What's your favorite?

What types of movies are you into? I usually watch horror movies...I love being freaked out...total adrenaline rush!
I think Phantom of the Opera is mainly loved by women, maybe musicals are just a women thing?
Hey did you ever get to check out my poetry and pics?

I don't really picky about movie. As long as it is good, i think i will watch it. But so far, all the musical movie that i watch is not feel that special. Although it is not Bad, it is not good either. While i don't really think it is a waste of time, it doesn't make me wanting to watch the sequel or watch the same movie again. Well, that's it from me.

"The Sound Of Music" is one of my favorite movies, too. I think it might depend on the musical. I like all of Elvis's movies, for example, and his were mostly musicals. I find some musicals to be boring, though. I also like "Grease" because I like 50s music. Kathy.

I do like them actually. I think they are great to watch with the kids. I think my eldest is probably now old enough to appreciate them and have the patience to watch them all the way through now. There is just something about musicals at christmas time that is cosy and comforting.
The first one I introduced to my daughter was Mary Poppins and she practically knows it all word for word now, even the songs.
One that I didn't really like was Mamma Mia. I think all the hype surrounding the movie built it up too much for me so i was a little disapointed with the results.

Yes, I'm also a fan. I have seen all the ones you mention and all are great. It was interesting that all the actors actually sang the Abba songs and I was surprised at how good they were. I also liked the movie about Johnny Cash while not really a musical but Joaquin Phoenix was almost better than Johnny cask. I said almost!

I've seen that one..although the name escapes me now. I actually thought Joaquin was quite attractive in that one! I never got into Johnny Cash but after watching that I asked my mom about him.

Sometimes. But I always hail the original stage version as the better because 1) it came first, the origin 2) live is where the true emotion is.
There had been too many adaptation decays of musicals in recent times. Rent, Sweeney Todd, Mamma Mia (I enjoyed and loved those movies, but they lack the substance that the stage offered)
My modern favorites are Nine and Chicago. Chicago was just a plain fun satire with great performances and genius interpretation of the stage play. I'm in a minority for the movie Nine.
My old-fashioned favorites are West Side Story and, of course, Sound of Music.

i love musicals and musical adaptation movies! my most favorite is phantom of the opera (2004). i just love how the music reverberates in my head. how can anyone forget Christine Daee singing "... you will think o-o-o-o-o-o-of me"? other unforgettable musical movies are My Fair Lady, West Side Story, and Chicago.
