Why do people keep on dealing with negative people?

Not too long ago the family had a bad situation with this particular family member and his family. These people are always causing pain and trouble to the family ,but some family members are still dealing with these people. The head of the family has money ,but hardly ever helps anybody unless you pay him back with interest. This guy lives in the Philippines and has plenty of money ,but is so stingy and nasty. I believe that for the sake of the family is best to isolate these people ,so we can all be happy. Not too long ago the family of my husband in the Philippines had a wonderful reunion and for the first time they all had a wonderful time because they didn't invite these people to the celebration. This should be enough reason to let these people know that without these people we can be very happy. Most family members are following our advice by staying away from them ,but some family members are steal dealing with them. Why is so hard for some people to stay away from negative people?
