Should we give up our religion and stand upright without it?

God had created Adam in His image. He made him stand upright. However, his descendants found out they were unable to maintain neither his uprightness nor his integrity. To maintain a semblance of uprightness they invented religion.
Ever since the man is using religion as a crutch in a hope that it would help him to remain upright and maintain his integrity. Once they became dependent on this crutch, they never wanted to give it up. In fact, they became obsessed with it. Some even began using this crutch to attack others who were upright and wise.
Today religion has become a habit; something people are unable to give up. Some take a pride in saying that their religion is their way of life.
It is time now that we all must give up our religion, and begins to see it as a symbol of disability. We must learn to stand upright without it. I invite your opinion on this topic of discussion.

Before we were born in this world, we already have religion. A religion that are passed from our descendants through time. Indeed, religion is difficult to give up because this is where our faith starts. We need religion in order to have faith in Him, for within Him is what good and just is. The very basic explanation of good is Him.

It is true we are born into religion. We do not become religious after we are born.

You are right to a point God did create Adam in his image but he did not form a relationship with God therefore man (Adam) could never achieve perfection on earth when you make the wrong choice so man followed the path of false gods and false religions that will always leed to his distruction as in the time of NOAH (the man who talked to God) so a savior where born who is the only begotten son of God JESUS formed the completed relationship with man and God but man has got into such a habit of following fales gods and fales religions he will not change to get on the right path so his present system will leed to his distruction but through Jesus his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Moreover, Jesus himself did not need any religion to remain upright. He is the true image of God. If we emulate him, adore him and worship him, we will change into His image. Therefore, he said, "I am the way; believe in me to have an eternal life". This clearly indicates that as true follower of Jesus we do not need any religion. We only have to believe in Him.

Hi achilles, I have little time for organized religion but I am not an atheist. I would like to see people get away from religion and become more spiritual. Religion has failed the human race but because the majority are indoctrinated at an early age, it still holds great power. We are all one and if we stood as one with love and compassion for all, we could solve most of the world's problems very quickly. Religion does not unite people, rather it divides them, it does not bring peace but war. It is time for us to stand up and learn the truth for ourselves. Break with those who have held us in bondage for so long and declare that we are all brothers and sisters and that we love each other and intend to work together as we were meant to do. We are here to live this life and if we follow what our hearts tell us is right, than we will be well prepared for the life that follows. Blessings.

I agree with you completly. I was visiting a lady over the weekend and we were talking about her just getting out of the hospital. She was telling me how hard it was for the nurses to get an iv started on her. She said she almost lost her "religion" because they stuck her so many times with the needle. I found it hard to believe that someone would still use that term. Religion in no way will get you to Heaven to be with God. I take it that is the reason believers believe in the first place to go to Heaven I know I do. I my not go to a church every Sunday but I do believe and I live by God's standards. I would say I live upright. Another good topic keep them going achilles I enjoy reading them and responding. You make me think about my every day life and it does help me to live better. overwith

Thank you for your appreciation. As long as Christ abides in our memory as Holy Spirit, everything else hardly matters. As long as we love and adore Him, He gives us His Christ like nature.

We were tought in basic school, Religion is the way a group of people live it is the culture that groom a person as he or she grows older. In my side people get so glued to their believe to the extend that, their life can't function without it. And its true, their lifes cant function without it.
I thing one can be spiritual but not religious, why because, religion has deceived its follower from genesis till my time. Yes Give up your religion ..I think...

I agree Edozornam, religions have deceived its followers. Instead of laying a guideline for the believers to follow, they offer them a crutch, which they must give up. We need guidelines, not a crutch that may only make us trudge along.

We know this well known Steven Weinberg's quote:"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But to good people to do evil things, that takes religion"
It's a bit harsh, but I think that's the truth. If we need religion to have a good way of life, probably we suffer from a lack of imagination.
Of course, religious people will ask: Where the good come from, if not from religion?
This is a different subject, but I don't think good and evil makes sense just because of religion. Good and evil are relative concepts with big differences over the centurys.
It would be nice to live in a world with no churches and mosques... "..and no religion too."

I agree wholeheartedly with you! Religion is just a set of guidelines to help us lead a better life and for civilized society to continue and progress. However, history is witness to the fact that more unreligious activities have taken place in the name of religion than the actual propagation of virtue and unity amongst mankind. I feel that our conscience and upbringing are our best guides…more valuable then any dictats in some medieval scriptures. We don’t need any religion to inculcate the values of love and caring within us, rather religion has become an excuse to perpetrate torture on the weak and arm-twist the gullible. Do away with religion and instead teach good values to kids from a very early age.

Totally agree. Religion was made by man. What's the big deal? As long as there's religion there will be war. It's the war of minds, beliefs, and opinion over total ignorance. It's crazy! If anyone believes in God, he could just be Godly and just do what is righteous...but religious? That's some kind of mind control to me. Some people just keep their religion cause they want to show other people that they belong to something normal and worldwide. It's a type of insecurity. When someone says what's your religion and you go i don't have a religion then here comes that awkward feeling like you're some kind of a weirdo cause you don't have a religion. I say SO WHAT? Will religion pays for my rent and credit cards???

Good topic you have started...
Well people are just much emotional about their religion and many want to follow it pinpoint.Thats where trouble start.I think these all philosophies were founded back few thousand years ago and thus many things are not applicable in todays time. There is no point in following it pinpoint. We can change or neglect few things which are not necessary in this era and can continue things which are still important.
