Mexico WARNS of Retaliation for New Arizona Law

"The law signed by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer affects relations between Arizona and Mexico and forces the Mexican government to reconsider the feasibility and utility of cooperation with Arizona," said Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa in a nine-paragraph statement. She did not take any questions from the press.
Espinosa announced that the Mexican government would provide consular protection and legal advice and assistance to Mexicans in Arizona through its five consulates in the state, and would "use all the resources at its disposal to defend the rights and dignity of Mexicans." Espinosa said the Mexican government had already taken "various measures" to convey its concerns to the state of Arizona, but that these were ignored.

OMG does this mean that the Mexican government will forbid/stop/not allow it's citizens to sneak into USA. WILL MEXICO NOW DECLARE IT WILL BE ILLEGAL TO BE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT. What will this mean to the USA if the illegals are not allowed to be illegal... any ideas of what this will do to our country???

Good one, Whiteheather! The law signed by AZ Gov. Jan Brewer is exactly what our whole country and Mexico BOTH need, whether they or the flaming, crazy liberals, and whining idiot Janet Napolitano chose to recognize it. We have every RIGHT AND OBLIGATION TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS AND CITIZENS. As most sane people know, Phoenix, AZ is the kidnap capital of the US due to Mexico's inability to police itself and provide for its own citizens. We do not need Mexican wars spilling onto our streets. Of course, were the situation reversed, Mexico would have long ago come down hard on us. Would any of us allow strangers to come into our homes at will and expect us to provide for them - even if we could?
Part of America's economic decline is due to this overreaching on the part of Mexico, as well as the misguided "charity" of Americans. Finances are FINATE, and we must first take care of and provide for our own, as any family must. The analogy to countries holds.
Illegal immigration is just that ILLEGAL and this disregard for the law is prevalent in those practicing it; just look at how many Americans are killed by those illegals, either driving drunk, or some other blatant disregard for the law.
When you make it OK to do what is illegal, that message carries over to all aspects of behavior.
When illegal alien Barack Obama (remember the youtube capture of Bill Richardson telling a group of illegal aliens that O was one of them?)and useful idiot Janet Napolitano want to grant amnesty, it is only to garner more votes for their ILLEGAL selves. Nothing noble there. But, should their will prevail, it might backfire since it would just be another nail in our economic coffin, and we would continue on our downslide into the third world country status which they are engineering right now. So, maybe ILLEGALS would go home and Mexico would figure out how to support its own.
How beautifully you articulate the vital point of Mexico "forbidding" AND DECLARING
IT "ILLEGAL TO BE AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT"! Whoa, buddy! It would be a giant weight off our back, because, among other things, we have nothing left to give. The cost of our generosity has been too great, even if only one life had been lost. This illegal administration in our country has no right to declare "AMNESTY" in order to allow illegals to continue in illegality, and foolish Americans to be swayed by double-talk, double-think ,and deception. THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES.
As for Espinosa, she ought not to waste words and should rather put on her thinking cap, along with the rest of the Mexican government. What AZ Gov. Brewer has done is magnificent, more than admirable, and is rational, sane, and historical. It is good government, something we have lacked for eons here; she is doing her duty to American citizens and we should be so grateful.

Well, let them go ahead. If they actually want to "use all the resources at its disposal to defend the rights and dignity of Mexicans." they can keep them home where they belong in the first place.
"Espinosa said the Mexican government had already taken "various measures" to convey its concerns to the state of Arizona, but that these were ignored." - Of course they were "ignored. Since when does any foreign government have the right to dictate policy to the state government of another country?
Restrict travel by US citizens to Mexico - that will just hurt their own people more than it does ours. Most border towns rely heavily on US dollars and so do other resort areas - Cancun, Acapulco, Mexico City, etc.
What is really a shame about all of this is, that Mexico has everything it needs to develop into a world power if they put their minds ot it. The climate is good, plenty of natural resources, plenty of workers, and a good central location in this entire hemispheere. They need to start fixing what they have instead of raiding other countries by sending their workers into other countries illegally and having them send money back home to Mexico. To be perfectly honest about it, a large percentage of the illegal workers here do not want to become US citizens. They want to make money here, send it home to their families to improve their lives, and secure their own future retirement when they finally return home.

Why would anyone want to be anywhere that treats them like they are stupid? The U.S. thinks Mexicans are too stupid to learn English so we print their language all over everything. It makes you wonder how the heck they learned Spanish.

I never looked at it that way before but you are right they must be really stupid not to learn English....BUT we are also not very smart because we are catering to their ignorance.... and what is even worse is that they are multiplying and breeding here for free!

How racist is that? Maybe they are just trying to hold on to their culture and heritage and choose not to learn English. Must you be punished and talked down on for that. What about all the other lanuages that are printed on forms aside from English. And if we are so stupid, why are American schools teaching our language and your race wants to learn it? Its sad that your comments about breeding are degrading humans to aminals.

It isn't your language. It's the language of Spain. You learned it from them. You apparently weren't as stupid back then but you got really stupid after that.
They teach it in American schools because you're too stupid to learn English.
Not a racist, but I'll make an exception for you.
whiteheather-I don't think they are stupid, what I think is that the United States treat them as such. I've known people who have worked hard to learn the language and insist on speaking English. If they can do it so can the others. I've seen the ones who learned and they are so proud that they can speak both languages.

What "rights" do illegal aliens have in our country? They're criminals and should be treated as such. Do you think the Mexicans would put up with an influx of US citizens, the same number as the Mexicans that have come here, crossing over into their country? I'm sure they wouldn't. I don't blame the Mexicans for wanting to better their situation, and I realize they're going to have little opportunity in their own corrupt country, but they are a drain on our economy and it's past time something was done about this problem. Perhaps if we'd stop making coming here so attractive, they'd stay in their own country. If we had the "Fair Tax" instead of an income tax which they don't pay into since most of their pay is under the table, they wouldn't be able to get public services for free any longer. I suppose that's what bothers me as much as anything - they're getting social services without putting anything into the public coffer. I know I sound unkind, but the problem has gotten to monstrous proportions.

No honest person can say that the citizens of the USA are not compassionate. What other people have responded as quickly and as generously as we to people in distress? But that's not the issue, it's whether or not illegals have the right to be here and to take what they really have no right to. We in the United States do not go into other countries illegally and in mass and take advantage of that country's social services or take jobs away from their citizens. Our federal government needs to take steps to enforce the law, whether that's securing the border or making it impossible for illegals to find work here because the fines are so high for anyone who is caught hiring them.

"Do you think the Mexicans would put up with an influx of US citizens, the same number as the Mexicans that have come here, crossing over into their country?"
This is the exact question that needs to be debated. It brings on the issue of a country's sovereignty and rule of law.
But that's exactly what's being ignored. It's replaced with compassion. The open borders crowd and other pro-immigration groups only use their hearts to debate.
"Well, America has so much room and so much wealth - and those poor Mexicans have had such a hard life and just want a better place to live. Why are you being so mean and trying to throw them out? You must be a racist."
Compassion is a tough thing to argue against, because you cannot challenge that stance with facts about crime numbers, our EXTREME debt, job loss, etc. Those folks just stand at the polar opposite of the true American dream.
We're the country that will take in the huddled masses (legally), do our best to protect them, and provide an atmosphere where they can work to acheive a better life. But the compassion-filled social justice folks want us to be the country that takes everyone in without any question and then chisel off money from the top and give handouts.
The stances are just too far apart to meet in the middle. Meanwhile, crap gets worse for everyone.
I've heard the fair tax used before as a possible solution to a lot of problems. But I'm not sure this particular government wants to entertain the notion of "fairness." To them, it's all about everyone else being forced to pitch in to do for others.

I'm pretty sure Mexico is expressing its concern about Mexican citizens who come to Arizona legally, and the potential for harassment they'll face now that every time someone tells a cop they have a funny accent they're going to get asked to show their papers and penalized if they happen to have left them in their hotel room.
Given that Mexican tourism provides over a billion dollars a year to the economy of Tuscon alone, the risk that Mexico will advise its citizens to spend those dollars elsewhere should be giving someone pause.
It's quite telling that the only context in which you can imagine Mexicans coming to Arizona is illegally.

It is equally telling that having come to this country as a LEGAL immigrant, obeyed the law, paid my taxes, all that was required as a prelude to be coming a citizen that I am disgusted by the behaviour exhibited by ILLEGAL immigrants.

there will be 6. three 20 year olds from hungary who gave themselves away by getting drunk and singing very loudly, and badly, in hungarian in a police filled bar. one man from scotland (we'll include that as 'eastern europe') who did exactly the same thing. and two pensioners from canada who asked for directions in french.

Maybe Mexico should look at its economic policies at home and see what can be done to improve conditions at home. People do not leave because they are doing well they leave because they aren't making it at home. If you look at our Immigration History you will see that it was the poor that came to this country and not the wealthy. Who settled the Midwest and West, It was the poor and those who wanted to get ahead. People who were wealthy did not move and take the risk.

Considering that they actually distributed instruction on how to sneak in a few years ago (in the form of a comic book), I doubt they will discourage illegals.
What everyone is missing here, and what we really need someone to stand up and shout, is that we are a sovereign nation with every right to control who comes into our country. People who are not citizens have human rights but have no right to the accommodations and legal status that is afforded to our CITIZENS. If they are here illegally, they are criminals and nothing else.
That won't happen. The string-pullers in the government want amnesty for as many as possible so that they can have more votes in coming years, people loyal to them because this administration gave them citizenship without any of the dedication or work that it takes to become naturalized.
I have nothing against people fleeing oppression and tyranny, which is rife in Mexico. But come here the right way. We need a streamlined immigration process.
Arizona passed that law out of desperation because the feds weren't doing the job given to them by the constitution. I think it was a push for action more than anything. I used to live there and know how desperate the illegal immigration problem is.

"That won't happen. The string-pullers in the government want amnesty for as many as possible so that they can have more votes in coming years, people loyal to them because this administration gave them citizenship without any of the dedication or work that it takes to become naturalized."
All Obama sees are millions of grateful votes if he can get the free ride to citizenship passed. This makes someone like me who did it all the hard way...legally. I was married to an American citizen, had worked for the US Government in Africa and Europe for 12 years BEFORE coming to the States but did not take or ask for any shortcuts!!
The methodology for counting unauthorized immigrants relies on a lot of assumptions which call into question the accuracy of the results. Twelve million may be the most popular number cited for illegal immigrants in the U.S at present, but some estimates, like one from Bear Stearns, believe the count is actually closer to a whopping 20 million.

Mexican governments cooperation with Arizona? That's rich. What cooperation? They've been shoveling those illegals over the border since before Reagan was president.
The Mexican government is going to, "use all the resources at its disposal to defend the rights and dignity of Mexicans."
Pity they haven't put as much effort into building their own economy, maybe the illegals wouldn't have to break our laws just to survive.
"...does this mean that the Mexican government will forbid/stop/not allow it's citizens to sneak into USA? What will this mean to the USA if the illegals are not allowed to be illegal...?"
I'd like to find out. Maybe it would mean more Americans working.
I would really like to see the Mexican government stand on its own two feet, and get off of ours. I'm not holding my breath, though. You really can't expect much from a do nothing country.

It appears that Mexico supports the has beens, deadbeats, and other non productive Mexican citizens supporting the Mexican economy by working in the USA illegally and then sending most of their earnings back into Mexico.
At this time when the US has so many unemployed citizens we need the jobs that the illegals steal for the unemployed. I also think very severe penalties should be levied against anyone who hires these criminals.

It's ridiculous. The countries America stands by most seem to be the most outspoken against us.
But now that Iran was selected to the UN's Women's Rights board or w/e, I've decided to flip the bird to the ever-growing insane part of the world and wish everyone else the absolute best as they hide under their politically-correct desks and hope the big bad meanies of the world don't kill them.
America is in a lose-lose situation as far as public opinion. But I share your thinking in wishing America would sever ties with ungrateful schmucks.

What some people don't seem to realize is that illegals don't have any rights in this country, because they are not supposed to be here. Being american citizens guarantees our rights, but they don't extend to everybody in the whole world. They can have all their rights in Mexico. Its up to the Mexican government to see that their citizens stay in their own country, and then they can have rights there.

EXACTLY!!!!
Most of the illegals here are rejects that even Mexico is glad to get rid of! They would not pass the test required to get a Green Card which is necessary to legally work and stay in the USA. I know what is required as I was once a LEGAL immigrant.
"The U.S. Justice Department estimated that 270,000 illegal immigrants served jail time nationally. Of those, 108,000 were in California. Some estimates show illegals now make up half of California's prison population, creating a massive criminal subculture that strains state budgets and creates a nightmare for local police forces."

There certainly are a number of illegals that are undesirable, but there are many that are hard working good people. That being said, they still need to abide by the laws of this country and go through the proper channels to get their work visas. It's not only illegal to "jump the fence" but it's not fair to the people that did it correctly.
