Please Do Not Read On If You Suffer Phobophobia...

I have never understood the intense fear that some people have when it comes to spiders. I guess that to me - a solid 6' guy - it almost seems irrational. But it's certainly not the most irrational fear, by any means. I once knew someone who was scared of beards - it's called 'pogophobia' - and refused to go near anybody who had them. That, of course, made Christmas an extremely interesting time of year; not to mention his entry into the world of dating when he discovered that his first serious girlfriend had a father with a wispy wiggins! Sure, I realise that no fear is truly irrational. To the sufferer it is a very real and traumatic issue and should not be understated or belittled. But I'm still curious to know -- what is the most unusual fear that you've experienced?

I have a problem regarding crowds sometimes. I don't feel comfortable with too many people around in one place. It's difficult for me to even have a relaxed mind set, especially in churches. I go to church every Sunday but there are times that I won't or can't go inside. It's really irrational and strange having this kind of mental state. People sometimes tend to have a difficulty understanding what are you going through and it sometimes makes it difficult for you to make them understand you.

I'm not actually overly fearful of anything to the point of it being a phobia. I'm not really comfortable being very close to the edge of a cliff or to snakes but it is not a phobia. As far as spiders go, I read somewhere that a person is never more than about 3 feet from a spider at any given time. So maybe we shouldn't tell those people who fear spiders about that. When I see spiders in my house I usually leave them alone unless they are getting way to close to my personal space.
