We can hear and watch on the television about the survey of the upcoming May 10 elections. There are lot of surveys reported but how reliable this for us to believe that it is most likely the final result of the election? Can this affect the decision of the people of whom to vote for? How about you? Will it be a great influence for the decision of the people.

that is not reliable. did you know anyone who was surveyed? even your neighbor or officemate or anyone from facebook who can honestly claim they have been surveyed.

I don't think surveys are reliable, we all know that it's almost always rigged and paid for by the politicians who wants to show the people that as if they are winning and they are going away with the win... It's sad that it is really true that surveys are one of the biggest basis of the people when voting. I often hear comments like, "he doesn't have any chance of winning because he is on the bottom of the surveys so I won't vote for him.." I wish, we would all just stand up for who we really think is the best candidate regardless of whether he is at the top or the bottom of the surveys.

i agree with your idea. We should stand for whom we think the best regardless of his standing either the top or below but he garnered the top so much the better. It means he/she somehow the ideal to win.

hi again rosey, definitely NO.. surveys are not realiable... if you are a responsible voter you will do your own research and dont get influence with media.. We interpret differently.. But here in cebu , with Noynoy and Villar, I would say, the two of them is on the lead really.. I am no to VILLAR..

I don't think survey is reliable that much because it was only taken by small percentage of participants. It does not really represent the majority of the people who will surely vote for elections. On the other hand it is a good influencing factor that may affects the peoples choice because they think the front runner of the survey is the right candidate to win. Somehow there's mentality of every person that would suffice like who is hot...who is famous and who is ahead of the bunch that would likely trigger the majority of the voters.

it would somehow affects the choice of the people especially those who have limited information and background of the particular candidate.

Surveys can easily be written to favour one party or the other. For example " if x increases taxes would you vote for them" could quite as well be " would you pay 1 pence extra tax for improved health and education services, think of this low cost compared to the benefit". So yes surveys can influence people by the way questions are worded, plus who pays for these surveys? And how much influence do they have?

that is why there is really a need to educate our fellow citizens by not easily be grab to the results and figures presented. Refer to the background and scrutinize who truly the person is. is he/she worthy to rule over the country?

I think its not reliable because as you can see it is commissioned by one of their members.

Survey represent only opinion of a few samples and does not reflect the entire nation's opinion so I guess we should not rely on that when choosing who to vote. There is nothing wrong trying to know what is the results on it but relying solely on it to make your own decision is not a good practice. Well if you find the candidate in the survey to be reliable person and you think he/she deserves your vote because you believe in him/her then I guess your choice is valid. But if you choose on candidates because of survey only then I guess you should think twice. Believe only in what you feel is right for the country and survey is just a tool for you to think but they should not be a final deciding point for you to vote for a person.

Here's the thing, if you have a background on research and statistics you'd often see that these so-called 'surveys' are not reliable. First we go to the sample size. Sampling is relatively wide because we're talking about the whole Philippines or Huge areas. To fund such surveys would entail huge costs, huge number of researchers or survey people to have each of the household to answer their polls. Dispersion of the targets are quite varied since there are a lot of people living farther in the city (so what happens to their count?). What these 'surveys' actually do is just ask random people like at most 100 then multiply to the needed sample size. Now, the process of them asking around. Have you been asked? I have not. Neither have any of my relatives nor friends and we're what? the same vicinity - which makes us assume that we were not included in the sampling. So who do they ask? well, mostly the poor, the loyalist and the people who's politicians would pay - OBVIOUSLY. Oh believe me, it takes a while to do surveys. I have done several of those to get my college degree and Master's Degree. If you don't believe me - just look at our NSO or National Statistics Office, it's their job to survey and they can't come out with updated surveys on time because it's just too difficult to do so. Population statistics latest was still in 2007, it's now 2010. Get my point? So, don't listen to these 'statistics or surveys', they're there to make you think you should be on the 'winning' team. Remember that this is not about who's popular or not. It's about who you personally think could lead your country - in short, who would you be willing TO WORK WITH in order to change the country, not that someone YOU WANT TO CHANGE the country for you. It takes a whole country to change. It isn't up to the President. I'm up for GIBO, he shows me who a leader should be - someone who isn't there for popularity, nor there to badmouth other people. Just there presenting himself to help us build a better Philippines.

i agree with your idea, survey does not represent the whole population of the country therefore it's up to the people to decide to whom they are in favor of not basing on whether he is leading or not but on his sincerity and honesty in serving the people and free from corruption.

Surveys are reliable, since 1998, surveys are super accurate. Even before the surveys came out I am all out for Noy Aquino because I know his personality more than any other candidate, I know his background and his simple lifestyle and integrity are important than accomplishments. Knowledge and achievements can be learned but not character. Surveys, as what one professor from University of San Carlos, Cebu city, says, should be taken seriously by candidates, because it is the indication if their campaign style had given impact to the people and the impression of the people always reflected in every survey. Now is the most crucial period of each candidate to redesign their style in campaign or else the surveys will tell the 100% accuracy of results.

i go for him also because among the candidates who run for president he is the only person that i could say to be sincere in all his words and i hope he can do all his plans for the country.

Surveys are so unreliable as a basis for the winner of any elections since they are usually done in specific locations where the preference of the people there differs from the choice of other Filipinos in other parts of the country. Two words - random sampling!

hi,survey...is for reflecting the views of public on a certain issue. But while taking survey,so many issues influence on that particular problem and we can't get 100% genuine info....so it is nearer and may be true few times.

It affects most Filipinos, which I think is a very stupid way of choosing your candidate. Surveys does not at all reflect the outcome of the elections. surveys use what we call a sampling size, meaning how many would be participating in the survey. like for example, 1000. does the answer of a those 1000 define the answer of the millions of Filipino voters? same goes for a few thousands, even millions. The real survey is the elections. Election should not be a popularity vote. It should be about who YOU think can change the Philippines for the better, with best interest of the people in his heart

Surveys does not comprises the totality of the population but most of the people are relying their votes of who is more popular but i did not mean that the one who is leading is not meant for the position but for some who are leading who is not meant to be.

I never believe in survey because it can be bought and it can be biased. Fidel V Ramos won presidential elections but he's low on survey, Miriam Defensonr-Santiago ranks high on survey but defeated by Fidel V. Ramos in actual elections. Survey is the opinion of 2000 people not the decision of millions of Filipino people.

i agree with you it does not represent the totality of the population who will cast their votes during election and there are rumors that some paid big amount to make the survey favorable in their part just to get the attention of the voting public. that is why it depends on each of us on how we choose our candidates. goodluck to us.

Whether it is reliable or not, it should not affect our decisions and good judgment on who to vote. I think it is just plain stupid to rely on those figures. Unfortunately Filipinos' minds are being controlled with those surveys. The sad result is that they'd rather not vote who they really want, because they'd rather go for the lesser evil than to follow their conscience. Personally if you'd ask me Ive already decided to vote for Senator Richard Gordon because on my research and on my previous observation on his past governance, he really did a great job. Among them are Subic and Olongapo where 400,000+ jobs have been generated and Olongapo as the highly urbanized city. He served Red Cross for 40yrs, tourism developed thru his WOW Philippines in whch he was lead to retrieve Mindanao hostages like Ces Drilon for instance. I really admire his leadership since I was young and I have also taught even before when I was still around 12 yrs young that he has the perfect qualifications for President. Anyway this is just my own personal views. My point being is, we should not just rely on platforms, promises, false hopes and even those surveys. We are given the choice, so we should be responsible for it.

Hi rosey, I don't base my choice of candidates with those surveys; I have made my choice of whom to vote. I do believe that surveys affect the peoples decision though; here in the Philippines where people are fond of popularity contest, surveys are a welcome feast and a great advantage to the ones that top the surveys.
