Hi sach143_u!
There is a major differences between Internet and Intranet. First, Internet is a public and open server wherein any people can access it or use it. This is what you are using right now. While intranet, is a private server wherein there is only a specific people who are authorized to use and modify it. Intranet is used basically on large companies who protect many confidentiality.

Internet is the cyberspace you usually use to navegate all over the world, when you check your email adress, when you log into mylot, and so on.
But for Intranet, you don't need Internet.
Intranet is the system you use for example when you work in an office with more people around you and you send a message to one of your collegues through your computer.
Intranet is only a conection done between several PC's and this connection can be used only to communicate between computers which are connected to the same net.

There's one major distinction between an intranet and the Internet: The Internet is an open, public space, while an intranet is designed to be a private space. An intranet may be accessible from the Internet, but as a rule it's protected by a password and accessible only to employees or other authorized users.

Hello there! To put this simply, an Internet is a global network of computers. This can be viewed by a wider or global audience (ex. multilingual, different cultures).
An intranet, however, is a network of computers limited to a company or organization which is intended usually and primarily for local audience only.
Hope this helps. Goodluck!
