I went to a bigger grocery than i usually go to yesterday because i wanted to get some ground turkey that my usual grocery doesn't carry. I went to the produce first, can't resist fresh things & they had one watermelon there w/a $10 price tag, OMGOSH!! i KNOW WATERMELONS are not in season here but ten dollors. Needless to say i did not buy it but just wondered if y'all have ever seen one for such a high price. I love watermelon but think i'll wait till they get cheaper. How about u? would u pay $10 for one?

I have noticed lots of fresh fruit is more expensive than usual for about the last six months. I would never pay that for a watermelon. In the summer we have fruit markets. I hope that they are reasonable then. I may have to see about planting some seed. Even for sugar babies. I saw them for around $6 and they are not even as large as a basketball.

no, but I don't know HOW my mom used to get a whole one and cut it up for the fridge, I guess with 3 kids we ate it fast enough, but still, I wouldn't have ROOM for a whole one!

Good morning Elic, thanks for your response, I can nearly always get a watermelon in my fridge since i'm the only one who is here. What i do after i cut one I take it all out if the rine & put it in a tupperware bowl & it doesn't take up so much room. I LOVE THEM.

If things are already sliced they are so expensive. At that same time, when I get an entire unsliced watermaelen, it just stays in the fridge. My husband always says he'll get to it and my dyspraxia has trouble with it I get watermelon all over me and everytihhing and soemtimes cut myself. So its not worth it.

I had wondered if u had started camping yet the other day. I envy u getting to do that. I don't blame u for not getting that. I always have thought the chopped uo watermelon was probably some they couldn't sell in slices.Just one of my crazy opinions, lol. Thanks for responding.

My husband would have my head if I ever paid $10.00 for a watermelon. I did once pay $5.00 for a piece of tropical fruit (I forgot the name of it), but that was an accident. I saw this big sign showing 98 cents. I missed the small print that showed per pound.

I do not think I would pay $10.00 for a watermelon unless it was a really big one, when I went to wal mart they were $4.98 and sometimes $3.98 and I wont pay that, I can go to the 99 cent store and get one for a dollar!!

Ten dollars?! Wow. I was at our Walmart Supercenter today, and they had watermelon out, but ten dollars was definitely not the cost of one. Did someone famous spit on it? After all, before it was taken off ebay, an MLB player's bone chips removed from his elbow were selling for $10,000.

I thought wow to. This wasn't at wal-mart. How ridiculous, people are sick, who in the devil would want bone chips, not me. Did the player put them on ebay? if so, he's sick to. Thanks for responding. Have a good night.

Yes, the player put them on ebay. When the media reported it, ebay went in and deleted them as buyable.

I must admit that out here based on the exchange rate it would have been valued at 1400 jamaican dollars and I dont think under any circumstances anyone here would have bought it at that price.I hoep nobody uys it at that price and forces them to redue the price because that is like highway robbery

I have never seen a watermelon for $10.00! That is outrageous! I love watermelon, too, but not that much, lol! I saw some cut watermelons at Foodland where I shop for groceries last night but they didn't look too good. I'm going to wait till they get more in season, myself.

Hi Jo, Your story looks like those stories with thieves! I would NEVER pay that amount for a watermelon (or for any fruit). Sometimes I see imported fruit at the super, but I look at it as if they were made of wax. No need to see them with hungry eyes at the prices they have. We have wonderful grapes (in fact we export grapes). But there´s a moment when they import grapes. They cost over 10 times as our wonderful grapes when they are in season. Today I went to the vegetable market (similar to your farmer´s market, I suppose) and filled my fridge with veggies and fruits for a little over $15. I so wish you could come here when watermelons are on season. You can get a huge one for about $2 or $3. By the way, I just made a post that was meant for you. It´s about the diet for hypertension. HUG!!!

Me either, that's a ridiculous price. I did find a watermelon for $3 last week at the groccery. It came from mexico , was pretty good but not as good & sweet as the ones grown here in the summer. Sorry to be so long getting back to u. Been having trouble w/my internet service since sunday. ^%$$^%$^. I would like to try your grapes, i like grapes to but not as much as watermelon, lol. HUGS.

Hi Jo, We have wonderful watermelons too, but at the right time of the year, just as you do, Jo. They need all the sun they can get. Imported fruits are never as good: they have to be picked before they are fully ripe. I have to have my computer fixed, but need someone to help me and I see little of my grandsons since they grew up. Of course, the smaller that I babysit can´t help (although they promise they will as soon as they grow).

There is no way that I would ever pay that much money for a piece of produce. In fact, it is because of the fact that the price of produce is so much higher when things are not in season that I won't buy things that aren't in season. The only produce items that I buy year round are bananas, apples, oranges, potatos and also onions because of the fact that the prices of these are never that astronomically high.

Yes, we have a good farmer's market & everything there is locally grown. They want let any vendor sell unless it's grown in the vacinity. Of course it doesn't last but a few months but i really love going.I'll be glad when it starts. Happy thursday.

I don't think I would. For any price, would I buy a whole one because my husband always says he'll get to it but never does. And its a comedy of errors and curses when I try to do anything like that with dyspraxia. So if I really want it, I get presliced and three dollars. I'm the only one who eats it, so even if my dh were to cut it most would be wasted.

hi antiquelady no I think that is really too expensive for my thrifty soul and I love fresh ripe watermelon.here in Southern california one can get the smaller mini watermelons and they are not so expensive either andthey are also seedless. I wish Gold Crest would give us more ripe watermelon they are great on canteloupe but it is not always all that ripe.

hi jo. you know, i love watermelon since i was a kid. i even remember, as a kid, we used to cut classes and go to the field to get watermelons direct from the field, without getting the permission of the owners. good thing, we were not caught. but with this $10 watermelon? no, i won't buy that too expensive watermelon, even how much i love it or even i have enough cash. that too much.

Ten dollars for a watermelon! I do love watermelon that I even wrote about it on my blog. But no matter how I love it I think $10 is too much and certainly I will not buy it atthat amount. In our country, watermelon is in season and big slices of red watermelons are being sold in the sidewalk for only 4 cents. A whole big size cost only around $2 but even if watermelon is not in season it is never priced at $10. Even if I so love watermelon I think I'd forget about it for the meantime if the price a piece reaches that high. I would rather just buy other fruits which will give just the same vitamins and nutrients anyway.
