Yesterday I found something shocking - A colony of ants migrating to a new home - my computer keyboard . For the past 2 to 3 days I was constantly noticing the presence of a few ants on my computer table. But it was today that I noticed a few of them coming out of the cleavage between the keys . I am not an hardware expert so I am scared that if I try to open the keyboard , I would not be able to rejoin it . Those ants kept biting my hands . Then there may be a question in your minds that how I am typing this article - Right ?? This is what I did - I took a large transparent plastic sheet from a nearby shop and wrapped it around the keyboard and heat sealed it so that no more new ants enter it and that they don't bite me . I know that this is only a temporary solution . What can I do to get all the ants out of my keyboard ?? I can't keep this plastic cover for long , or the ants would die and I can't bring them out . Please tell me a solution to bring these ants out of my keyboard .

I suggest you clean your keyboard. If you are eating while using the computer then it's best to stop it. Maybe crumbs fall straight to your keyboard.

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!! itz pretty funny to respond this topic.Just detach your keyboard.Turn your keyboard to its back and shake it well till u see all the ants and any mud falling out..... And then keep it in hot son ,so that surely the ant comes out and then if possible cover your keyboard with any of the plastic accessories awith zip.And try to keep your place clean.Try to dust your computer and keyboard after and before use.Be happy to have such a fuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnyyyyyyyyy problem.

The way I remember it, I first unscrewed then went to the window and shook the dust and ant off from it. I couldn't locate the repellent so I just returned the screws and hoped for the best. It was at the second time they came. At the first encounter, I used the repellent but not without cleaning the keyboard first. Because there were still few that remained I had to apply the repellent but I made sure the dust is to minimum.

If you have a spare keyboard sitting around, put that on your computer and put your old one in the dishwasher. Unless it specifically says dishwasher safe, let it dry for several days to a week. A normal keyboard can often be put through the dishwasher safely IF allowed to dry thoroughly. Also, ant traps - put 'em everywhere to prevent an infestation happening again.

Wondering if maybe some crumbs maybe got into your keyboard which is what would attract them. I don't know but keyboards can be bought fairly cheap. I would go and get another keyboard if that happened to me. I have bought new keyboards for under 10.00.

Well that is an interesting place to find ants... I would try a few things, first you could simply shake the keyboard up-side down over a garbage can. That should get a few out. Then you could take a vacuum cleaner to it and hopefully that will get the rest out of their. I don't think you need to go as far as taking the keyboard out. You should be able to get them out in a less drastic way. Also, to prevent more ants from returning... I would recommend keeping the keyboard clean. Be sure not to eat over it and get crumbs in there. Also if you can, wash your hands before you use it. I am guilty of eating at my keyboard so I know that sometimes you just can't help it... Hopefully some of these tips will help you in your ant disaster! -BestComputerGeek

The first thought that come to my mind is to use a vacumm cleaner. Hope that will get the colony out of your com. Next is to wipe it with a clean damp cloth, becareful that it is not dripping heeheehee. Did you eat and drink while on your com? Spilled something that sipped in? But I'm only a housewife so can't advice on how to dismantle and clean thoroughly. Hope it help, and do get rid of the bad habit of eating/drinking while on your com! :D
