When you dine in a restaurant or eat at home, do you always have left over on your plate? When I was a kid my grand mother always get angry when we didn't finish to eat all the foods that it has on our plate, she taught us to only get the food that we can afford to consume and if not we have to eat everything even if we are full, she's a bit stingy though, it has teach me a lessons to value the foods that we have and never waste it.

I get ashamed both ways. I, too, was taught not to waste food and I appreciate this advice. Still people make a wrong impression of you if you are so neat in your plate. "Are you eating for first time?" "Save something for others/animals" (haha, which animals/others, I ask).
Taking the middle road, I'll always eat what I have in my plate when in home. In restaurant etc, some leftover can be left over.

Really you got a wrong impression if you have a neat plate? Well for me its not what I think, its not a wrong impression for me If I saw someone who eat that way. Well perhaps in other culture, like yours, or other. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

I was brought up this way too, i had a grandmother who made sure food always goes round to all her grandchildren when we used to spend our holidays there, she made sure all grandchildren were around, she makes sure we get food to eat when it's due and because of the crowd she makes alot of food and makes sure you eat what you could and never waste any bit of the food because it gets her furious and mad, she'll start screaming DON'T YOU ALL KNOW FOOD COSTS MONEY, NOW WHAT YOU WASTED IS YOUR POCKET MONEY. So we all lent never to never to waste food and since then it i got used to it and whenever i eat out i make sure there's nothing left on my plate. Happy Lotting

Well its good to hear that your grandmother did the same thing as well. She must be a woman with full of wisdom and its good to know that you follow her. Food is very important, we can't survive without it and instead of wasting our money on foods we can't afford to eat we should rather give our money to those who doesn't have money to buy foods. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

No it happens rarely but it need to admit it that it happens.I am every very health conscious person and when some of my friends offer me which is really oily and spicy i eat little bit just to satisfy them and left most of the part in dish. I cant afford to loose my heath because of these things.I take care and i dont waste food but
I tell them before start eating that this much i am going to eat and give me extra dish to remove other items.Sometime they agree but when they dont agree and keep pressurizing me to eat i just leave some food in dish.

Ah, well that's alright and it could be acceptable, since our health does matter a lot and its not often that you waste foods. Well me either in some occasions, where I really need to eat just to give respect and if I don't like the foods, I just leave it on my plate, its unintentional so that would be alright. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Yeah, you're right its inevitable sometimes. We are not in control of every situations, like for me in some occasions or gathering and I am not familiar with the foods that's given, so often I refuse to eat it. So its all wasted but not that much, I only take a little of everything. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

We were trained to be like that too. Everyone in my family will tell you to finish your food when you leave it on your plate.
What we do if we cant eat it but put it in our plate is we find someone who'll want to eat it.

Dear friend,
I had seen those people starving in Televisions and News. At times I would feel myself lucky that God did not leave me starving. This things could make me just not to waste any food. I never intentionally wasted any food. Also never wished to leave any left overs in the my plate unless it is not good for my health.

your grandmother do right things, when i was young about 6, my mother often taught me not to put many food at the begining of dinner, whatever i like food or not.
Now i have a boy kid,2 years old, i teach the same things to you. That is very good things for mother and kids, let them value the foods, don't waste food.

That really is a nice lesson to learn from your grandmother. It just seems that the elder people in society are better at saving money than the younger generation is nowadays. I try not to waste any food so I just take as much as I can eat on the plate. It would just be wasteful spending of the money if I threw away food.

Yeah, you're right elder people knows very well how to save resources and money than in our present generation. Well I think its because way back then they work very hard just to have something to eat and now there are plenty of job opportunity and one can have enough money if only work hard. Well its just my thought. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

I don't want to leave something in my plate as much as possible because I felt that it's a big waste knowing the restaurant where I'm eating will just throw it away. And there are so many people around the globe whose hungry, and can't even afford to buy food. My mother told us not to waste food cause they are blessings from God. Though sometimes we tend to get so much that we can't even consume them all. To avoid waste, let's try to get only the portion we can only eat.

When I was young, my dad never allowed to leave the table if there are still foon in our plates. They said that leaving a certain amount of food on your plate or a small amount of drink in your glass is part of etiquette but I was taught never to leave anything on my plate. I always remember that cause my father always said there are a lot of people who doesnt have anything to eat and leaving something on your plate is such a waste.

no, our parents is very strict when it regards to a food. for them they work hard to buy our food, and they don't want us to waste it, instead we give it value to our food. if we are going to eat, we must to put to our plate a food which is only enough to our stomach., and if there is a some left over they will get angry to us.,

Yeah, the same thing with my grandmother. She gets angry when I won't able to finish the foods we eat, way back then. It's always a good thing to teach our young ones to value about foods and let them know that there are many people who can't afford to eat. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

It is no sin to leave food leftovers, what is a sin is to throw those away. Think of the millions of children that starve everyday, and die of food deprivation. We have to start to appreciate our food more and save it for the next day. It is alsoa big money$$$ saver. Parents also should teach their children to not throw their food away, and teach them that if they don't finish their meal, they must eat it the next day. Times are tough and we must be thankful for being able to eat, not throw away food.
Sometimes, it really infuriates me when rich people throw aways tons and tons of food, like some people wouldn't want some of that. And the food is perfectly edible. That is a bigger sin. But whether we are rich or not, throwing food away no matter the amount, is a sin.

Yeah, you're right it's parents responsibility to teach their children to give value and importance of the foods. To teach their children that there are many people around the world who die of starvation, so its only right not to throw away those leftover and rather keep it on the fridge for another meal, or better eat what they can afford to consume. Foods is a gift from God and its only right that we should not waste it. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Yeah, its a lesson that everyone must learn especially those rich people who haven't experience being starve for days, or being able to eat once a day. I've read in a newspaper about a family whom they have a schedule when it comes to eating, the parents and older children eat during Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Sunday while the younger ones eat once a meal every day. Its really sad to hear about this kind of story and its true. Everyone must open their eyes to see the reality and learn not to waste foods. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Zilch, nada, or simply nothing, this happens when I like the taste of the food and of course if it's my favorite. There are times that I want to try something new, as a result it is inevitable not to have a left over, still I try to finish it all if the taste isn't that bad at all.
When I'm dining at home, I only get what I can consume. The key is you have to eat with your mouth not with your eyes; don't fill your plate because you're attracted with the colors. If your feeling the artistic side of you, paint or draw after the meal.

I like that "we have to eat with our mouth not with our eyes." yeah, sometimes when dining in a new restaurant, especially those "eat all you can", one tend to get fill their plate with everything they fancy and in the end the foods is not that tasty as it looks. Wherever I dine, I often finish what's on my plate and when I not familiar with the food, I only take a bite. Anyway thank you for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

It depends where i am and how a big the overall meal is. Somethimes i will leave some if i know there are more courses to make sure i have room. Mostly i clean the plate though and can often be found a few hours laters scanning the kitchen for any which didnt make it to a plate ;)

I have been brought up to not waste food so yes my plate is usually empty when I've finished eating. There's so many people who don't have enough to eat so I think it is awful to waste food.

Hi Care,
I was trained to finish whatever i have on the plate since i was a kid. so, i just get the food i can consume for a meal or in parties or buffet gatherings and consume everything. it's embarassing to have some left overs on the plate.

Actually, I am not the type of person who gets food in which I cannot finish. I only get what I can eat and I was trained by my parents as to that. We don't come in a rich family. My mom used to tell me that it's not appropriate to eat more than what you can consume. Manners. So in short, I don't have any left over in my plate and same goes with my partner.

it's really a bad habit to have leftovers on your plate.
just think of other people who have nothing to eat!
that's why don't get too much food when you know you can't finish.
if you're in a fastfood better take out the unfinished food and finish it at home.
i have watched some video regarding these and i just want to share it with you!
hope you'll get to learn from it!
