Hi kalav56!
My mother always remind me that before i will go outside my room to please turn off any flow of electricity like plugged AVR of computers and electricfans. But besides this every routine of sermon, i always forget those reminders. ha ha ha! The more she remind me the more i forget. I don't know why ! :)). It has something to do with psychological matters i think. wahahaha!. I have a phobia with that kind of scenario when someday during the extreme heat of summer i smell something weird. I checked were it came i've seen the our electric fan was burning. ! I just yell at my brother because i had nothing to do about it .!

My situation is quite different. My mother also like chattering over and over again which always fidgets me. So annoying. But it does some work. When I get out, I always have this feeling- there's something I need to do,but what? Till I lock the door. Peng... I get it. It's to switch off the fan. Yes, just it. And then I'll get back to close it.

We are an energy conscious family (especially my husband) and the fans are usually on if no one's in the room. Sometimes, the boys forget...because the little one is too young and can't reach the switch anyways...and the older one is in and out of rooms...that he just doesn't bother sometimes. But during the day when my husband isn't home, the fans are usually switched off and I open the windows of all the rooms. We are on the 6th floor and have great ventilation(and cross-ventilation) and my older son and I prefer this to switching on the fan. But husband can't stand this heat either when he is home and the fans are switched on them. He's also good about switching it off when he leaves the room.

congrats kalav, for your energy saving topics. you would soon have a 10 star rating for this.
I just confided, in your other topic of air-conditioner usage, that It is for the eco friendly usage that I tried to avoid such green house gadgets.
i installed a remote for every room! it is a very friendly gadget, and a sensor sees that the unwanted gadgets do not consume power; they auto shut off.

That is fantastic; but how will this remote work if people do not shut the door of a particular room? Or is there a timer or something? Thank you for your wishes.I am also eagerly waiting to gt back my blue star.I had one earlier, but then it disappeared.

the remote has a timer, as also a sensor sort of thing, which gets triggered if there are none in the room. or there is total 'zero movement'. once when i was reading a book, and got so engrossed in it, .. in the middle of night, the lights and fan automatically switched off, and I PRESUMED the sensor thought i am not there. lols.
regarding the star.. i would bless you more than the rating. May all your threads become hot topics. goodluck.

Unlike most people I do not like air circulating with a fan, so those I keep off always, except to clear the stale air and then I go outdoors while the ceiling fans are on. Sometimes if the house is really hot I do put a fan in the doorway to bring cooler evening air in, but then too, I go outdoors to wait for it to cool down.

Hi kalav, you are very much conscious about misuse of energy. I appreciate your habit. If most of the people follow your example we can get rid of load shading for some extent.
As for me I'm callus in this respect. Often I forget to switch the fan or light off when I left my room. For this I have to hear harsh words from my wife.

Yes of course because i want to save energy and i also want to help my parents on our electric bill. You know i also unplug it so that short circuit may not occur so that i could also prevent fire.

My room is the hottest of the whole house. I keep my fan on when I am not in the room so my records and tapes are kept at the same temperature.

Not only fans, I keep on switching off the lights too where no one is there. I feel it is a National Waste. My husband says I have an obsession. But I feel restless till I switch off lights and fans, where no one is there.

well, the IDIOT roommate will turn off fans, but run her ac all the time - her bedroom was like an icebox all winter (and we had a very cold winter here this last winter) Fans take a fraction of the electricity that the ac does, and since we do have cats, and the roomie is home all the time, we leave the fans running to give the cats some air circulation - they don't need ac (tho they LIKE it) but last summer was very VERY hot and they survived it with just fans (us, not so well in the kitchen, the one room without an ac at the moment.)

I too do it most of the time, but sometimes tend to forget. For example if I am in the room with the fan on and suddenly remember that i have something on the stove , I would rush to the kitchen forgetting that i have left the fan on.But thankfully this doesnt happen often...I am careful about power and water because it is going to become dearer and dearer as days progress and all of us need to be careful in conserving them...

Yes,it is a must to off any appliances when not in use.
In this crisis,we need to saved anything, everything that we can.
Electricity bill is one of the common problem during summer.
It doubles the rate, even triple sometimes.
I always off and unplug appliances, and remind kids also to do the same thing.
And,it is also better to check out kids room when they go outside, coz, kids are not aware same way as we did.
Being too excited to play outside makes them forgot to off fans or tv sets.

Yes, I do practice that, unless I am away from the fan for just a short while, say, get a drink for example. In my country, the electrical bills have recently gone up again, and it's only right that we should cut down on unnecessary electricity usage.

Hi kalav, we should be friendly to our environment as we have a green planet only. Power saving is one of the ways in our daily life to protect our planet. Not only the fans, I always keep all the appliances which are not in used switching off all the time. but I don't switch off the fridge as it will turn off automatically when reaching the cooling degree set. This is also a wonderful invention for fridge to save energy in this way. Besides be friendly to our environment, the less of electricity usage will lessen the monthly electrical expenses for sure
Happy posting!

Hi Kalav!
I also invariably switch off lights and fans, when no one is in room. It is no use wasting electricity, as it is at premium and we pay for it, under our nose. I keep telling other members of the family that please switch off fans and lights and other electrical gadgets when not in use, it is we who will have to foot the hefty bill at the end of the month.

Hi, Kalav, yes, I turn off electronical appliances, such as fans, lights, etc, when I leave a room. My parents always ask me to do this. So...for example, if I keep the lights on but I'm not in that room, my parents will remind me.
I think it's a good habit, firstly, we can save energy in this way. In another hand, it's a good way to prevent fire. I know it's unusual, but sometimes, we also hear fire caused by shortcircuit or line aging. Hence, it's safer to keep power cut when leaving, in my opinion.

Well for saving money on electric bills, we are using now the LED based bulbs, which is economical than the CFL bulbs, though cost is more. We donot have the tubelights and filament type bulbs any more..At night when we sleep a LED high intensity bulb is enough
Honestly speaking no body switches off the fans, some time my wife does, maximum consumption is by my 2 ton ac..
Thank you so much for this nice discussion, cheers
God bless you.

energy saving topic,how nice!
i love this! we'll when i was still a child, our parents always taught us to save energy when it comes to appliances!
for now,its really hot here in the philippines that's why there were really times that we use all of our electric fans to lessen the heat.
well,it's really advisable to turn off the appliances specially when no one is using it.also the television, computers, lights, and others make sure to unplug these things when no one is using.less expenses also when saving energy!
