Tell me why should I hire you?

Its not a cliche or perhaps not pretty uncommon, when finding jobs.And one day your home phone rings and on the other line spoke to you that u have an interview.Then you brought yourself with your complete package and confidence.Anticipating the interview of being so easy to carry out of what does the interviewer may come to ask you.All of a sudden they will ask you 'why should I hire you'?or they may ask you 'what do you have that the other applicant dont have'? How would you response that,,,,its not tricky is it...nor an out of the box question. Luckily I never had encounter like this,,

this question is something I would have asked anyone applying for a job with me, if I did not feel like doing the interview. Or, when I am tired. Or, when I don't want to hire that particular applicant.
it is upto the applicant to defend his skills, and his demands like pay package, etc.
But, I presume, MODERN H.R.MANAGERS seldom start with such sort of direct approach, at least, not until the last one-on-one interview time.
They would rather ask, "discuss about your strengths & weaknesses".
