Bookmarks or folding the page?

When you are reading a book how do you mark the page that you leave off on? Do you use bookmarks, fold the corner of the pages down or do you use some other method? For me, I got in the habit of using bookmarks because I borrow so many books from the library, so I can't fold the pages. So bookmarks are my primary method of keeping my page. I don't always use actual bookmarks,I sometimes use whatever paper is laying around like a notecard or a cash register recipt. When I was a kid I folded the pages down.

I fold the page or if I know I will be right back because I need to run do something real quick I will just lay the book face down on the page that I am on. I do not use library books just my own. I have found that when using bookmarks, it seems like a prime attraction for kids. At least for my kids. It seems that it makes them so curious that they have to pull the bookmark out to see what it is and hence I lose my place that I was in the book. If I ever borrow a book though I use something that will fit inside the book without sticking out at all & keep the book put up so that no one can get to it.

I sometimes just turn the book over, too. I don't have any kids to mess with it, so I can just do that or use a bookmark.

I rather use a bookmark because I love books so much I don't like to fold the corners or mess a book in any way. In fact I have a tendicious to buy books as gifts for family members and always buy a bookmark for the books. I usually pick a bookmark that matches their personality or what they really like such as roses or animals.

I don't like to mess books up either, so that's why I don't like to fold corners. That's a really cool idea that when you give someone a new book you give them a bookmark as well.

I use what I can find for bookmarks but my little one will often pull it out! Sometimes I do "dogear" or pull down small corners - but usually for parts of the book I want to go back to write down inconsistencies in story - in case I ever want to write to the author.

Personally I don't always use a bookmark, but I do try to use a folded piece of paper or something else that I find laying around. I too used to fold my pages down when I was younger and truth be told I also sometimes fold the pages if there is nothing else around.

Yeah, I don't usually have an actual bookmark, so I use whatever is laying around. When nothing else is around, then I just kind of turn the book over and hope no one touches it.

I never used to fold the pages at all but I sort of picked up the habit recently. If it's a library book which looks new, though, I will find a bookmark :)

I have never folded down a page corner to mark my place and it really irritates me when I come across a book that still has pages folded down from a previous reader. I always use a book mark of some kind. Sometimes a proper bookmark, but more often I use an old envelope or whatever bit of paper happens to be to hand to mark my place.

When I read a book and if any sentence of a phrase or a paragraph was very much interested, then I fold the corner of the page like bookmarking the website on a browser... and whenver I feel time to read.. i take that bookmark page and read it for a while...

I'm pretty much the same. I folded pages when I was a kid, but now I use bookmarks-which can be actual bookmarks, scrap paper, receipts, et c.

I always start out with a bookmark of some kind, even if its not a real bookmark and just a scrap of paper. But at some point while reading I always lose that bookmark and instead of finding another I will start folding the corners down.

I prefer to fold the page to save my place in a book or magaazine. Bookmarks usually find a way to slip out. then you have to try to remember where your place was bookmarked in the first place.

I don't use a bookmark and I don't fold the corner of the page. I usually just leave the book face down to the page where I stopped because most likely I'll be coming back to reading it shortly. You see, I can't bear to stop reading when I'm in the middle of a story, especially when it's a new book. I'm very careful with my books that I don't open them too much so there's no lines on the spine AND I don't like folding pages. See how obsessed I am with books? :)

It really depends on what book. For school I just flip the page until I found the right page. With really interesting course I use a bookmark. In just plain old 'story'-books I often fold the page. Simply because I always seem to lose my bookmarks. And I would need quite some. Most of the time I read like 4 books in the same timespan. That is, one for in the bus, one for in bed, one for on the toilet and at last one for everywhere. I don't have that many good bookmarks.

At times I forget to do both. But it doesn't take too long to resume reading from where I had left off. Maybe you guys should try it as well, a mental bookmark!

I don't use the bookmark. I like to fold the page when I am reading a book. It is convenient and I don't mind it. I don't like borrowing books, I like to have my own books. This is why I don't mind even if I fold the page of it. I love China

usually, i fold pages. it's more convenient that way so i won't have to reach or look for bookmarks. i don't like reading textbooks back in grade/high school while in college, i don't even buy ones. there were only few times when i borrowed books from a school library and i used bookmarks for them since i can't afford to be lazy when books aren't mine.^_^ i only have novels in my possession (robert ludlum, sydney sheldon, etc.) so i can fold pages whenever i want.^_^

It depends on the time and place. If i am in the church i will note down on the book which i will carry. Some times while traveling i will just fold the page. If it is my class book then i will mark with pen or pencil.

As a kid, I got used to folding one of the top corners of a page. Sometimes I read up to the end of a chapter then just remember the next chapter I'll be reading. Or I put in something I can discard later on, like a piece of paper. (I lost a lot of bookmarks before) Right now I'm using a bookmark but It's really annoying.Probably because I'm not used to using it. I haven't lost it yet (YAY)

folding the pages are obviously the better choice.. in my case bookmark always drop from the book. when that happen i have to work from bottom again in order to get the pages that i want. if the pages are 20 pages its maybe not a problem.. imagine the book 1k++ pages.. i go like @.@ to find where the current pages that i want to read
